Regional Child Health Workshop Primary care support for thriving children and families in the first 1,000 days.

Monday, 3rd September 2018

We are creating a shared regional resource of principles for working with whānau who may have challenges utilising primary care services for early child health.

11:30am to 2:30pm

We would welcome your feedback about what works, and what could work, in your community.

A workshop for ‘front-line’ staff from around the Midland region: -

General practice staff (e.g. GPs and Practice Nurses)

-

Well Child / Tamariki Ora programme staff

-

Lead Maternity Carers and midwives

-

Whānau support staff and Kaiāwhina.

The focus is on: -

Māori child health equity, in particular how to work with and support ‘hard-to-reach’ whānau.

-

Discussions and handovers with other primary health care professionals in the ‘first 1,000 days’ (conception to two years old), to support holistic health & wellbeing of whānau and child.

-

Utilising whānau support programmes to facilitate engagement and relationships with primary care services.

-

Tools and practices to engage with whānau about their health and wellbeing needs, and sharing assessment information between health providers.
