Welcome to our new CEO, Lindsey Webber Lindsey joins us from the Hauraki PHO, where she has been deputy chief executive since 2016. She says she is very much looking forward to working closely with the staff, practice teams and stakeholders to achieve the PHO’s vision for healthy people and communities. "I'm really excited to bring my ideas, my energy and passion for health care and healthy whānau to the Bay." Lindsey is a registered nurse with a background in women’s health and has a wealth of primary health care and quality management experience. She trained at Guy’s Hospital in London and worked in the NHS before coming to New Zealand 20 years ago where she taught at Wintec and worked for Pinnacle Midlands Health Network as a quality adviser for their GP network. She then joined St John working as national quality manager for a couple of years before returning to Pinnacle as director of nursing. At the Hauraki PHO Lindsey was initially responsible for rolling out the Long-Term Conditions programme that came to be known as Manawanui Whai Ora Kaitiaki. This involved working closely with general practice partners, Māori health providers, NGOs and other stakeholders to establish a mobile nursing and kaiawhina service providing outreach support to individuals, whānau and families with complex health and social needs. Investing in models of care that address the social determinants of health as well as the physical impact of disease on people is the way of the future, she says. Lindsey is also keen to promote the role of nursing and other disciplines in primary care. “With the pressure on GPs to do more and more we have to look at how we can strengthen teams in general practice. I am very supportive of the utilisation of nurse practitioners and nurse prescribers within the multi-disciplinary team and the development of kaiawhina, navigator and healthcare assistant roles to support clinical care.” Over the next few weeks, Lindsey will be out and about visiting practices across the network to say hi and meet with practice teams. “I’m looking forward to getting to know our practice partners and working together to achieve the best outcome we possibly can for our communities”.
