MOCA Training Clarification

Clarification: MoCA test training 9 September 2019 We recently sent notification of our national response to the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) certification announcement. As described in our communication in August, we were under the impression that training and certification would be offered by MoCA at no cost between 1 September 2019 and 31 August 2020. However, we’ve made further enquiries and found this is not the case. If you wish to receive training from the MoCA Institute website, it will attract a fee of USD125. However, you can continue to use the test without MoCA specific training and certification until 1 September 2020. To do this, select ‘I am already certified or will complete my certification before September 1st 2020’. If you have access to existing local training for use of MoCA continue to use these channels until September 2020. Please see www.mocatest.org/training-certification/ for further details on the training and certification process and some exemptions that are available. As outlined in our previous message, a multidisciplinary working group is being invited to prepare a briefing for district health boards and the Ministry of Health about the potential costs and benefits of continuing to use the MoCA test, and do an assessment of alternatives. For more information or to offer support or information to the working group, please email the New Zealand Dementia Cooperative: director@nzdementia.org. We apologise for any confusion and will keep you informed of progress. Regards Shereen Moloney Executive Director NZ Dementia Cooperative director@nzdementia.org
