Notes from Quality Simplification Project Meeting held Friday 9th Nov 2018
RNZCGP representatives were: Bernadette Cornor, the Project Director, Quality Programme Simplification Kate Wang, the General Manager of Quality
8 practice managers, 2 nurse managers & PHO representatives contributed to this very worthwhile interactive session Bernadette emphasised the college want to hear the general practice perspective & went on the outline the proposed “simplified of quality which is modular with Foundation as the first mandatory module. Cornerstone accreditation requires 2 additional modules be completed in addition to Foundation, the Quality module & another of practice choice. Mandatory Module FOUNDATION Standard Legal/Compliance/Best Practice
PLUS Cornerstone Mandatory1 QUALITY Module
Plus Cornerstone Mandatory2 Module of CHOICE
Examples of Module Choices for Mandatory2: (not limited to these) 1. Teaching Practice : prerequisite for all registrars 2. Good General Practice: for standard general practice. Included areas like strategic planning, multi-disciplinary teamwork, accessibility (hours), GP Triage, patients with special needs. Discussion Points: Future Assessment options for Cornerstone and Foundation practices Consensus of opinion is leaning towards the annual programme ending and moving to a 3 or 4 year cycle with a mid-point submission and assessment. PHO group had some support for retaining the Annual Programme & were split between a 3 or 4 year cycle QA2QI Tool Tool will be retaining but reconfigured for the simplified programme. All previous practice input & attachments will be retained Future Cornerstone requirements for teaching practices Complete Teaching Practice module as Mandatory2 & then one visit will be needed for assessment rather than the current 2 visits.

Notes from Quality Simplification Project Meeting held Friday 9th Nov 2018 Cross Accreditation with Cornerstone Cornerstone will accept evidence from other accreditations. This is not necessarily a 1 for 1 process & there may be some additional work needed. Activities that are regulated eg. Fire Evacuation Scheme registered with the Fire Service be accepted as meet by Cornerstone if indicated by a tick box in QA2QI that they have been completed.
Current Inconsistency in Assessments Practice representatives raised that the skill level & experience can vary between assessors meaning the assessment is not of a consistent standard. Kate Wang responded to this as follows: Further professional development will be given to assessors to address consistency Post visit follow up calls will be made from the Cornerstone team for feedback Transition Plan Proposing a Transition Period of 12 months with current accreditation remaining valid until December 2019. What should Practices work on in the interim? Response was: Foundation standard criteria Clinical Effectiveness criteria Can practices still get assessed if they are due? Yes – & the length of recertification will be 4 years. To arrange assessment contact the assessment team at the college on quality@rnzcgp.org.nz
Meeting closed with a request from Bernadette & Kate that practices ensure they send through their feedback by completing the latest survey.
