You may attend in your own time or arrange with your manager to take time off. You do not need a purchase order or your manager’s approval to access these services. How does short term counselling work? He aha te mahi kaiārahi? Short term counselling is a process that involves you speaking with a counsellor either face to face or over the telephone. It is a short term, solution focused, conversation designed to help you address the immediate issues you are facing. Sessions with a counsellor usually last about 50 minutes. If unattended, the problems may lead to time off work, increased risk of accidents, lost sleep, high stress levels and possible health issues. All this can have an impact on your well being, your relationships and your ability to work effectively. These are times or situations when you may need to talk confidentially to someone such as a Vitae Counsellor. You can do this at no cost to you through your Workplace Wellbeing Programme (sometimes called EAP). This is part of your organisation’s commitment to promoting a healthy workplace and caring for its team.

Is Vitae counselling confidential? He matatapu te mahi kaiārahi o Vitae? Yes. Confidentiality and your privacy are of real importance to us. When you see a counsellor, no details of your issues will be discussed without your permission. Only with your written permission may Vitae discuss your visit with your employer. Confidentiality may be waived only if we believe that you’re at risk to yourself or others. Vitae provides regular reports to your employer outlining statistical information about the service. This does not include details of who has used the service.

What will it cost? E hia te utu? Not a cent. It costs nothing to attend the counselling sessions. Your employer provides this service free to you and pays Vitae for the counselling we provide.

Does counselling work? Ka taea te mahi kaiārahi? Yes. Counselling is most effective when you decide to commit time to understand and work through the issues that are preventing you from leading the life you want. Counselling is not about giving you advice. It is about helping you understand your situation, considering options & finding answers that work for you. We work together to look at solutions to the issues you face.

About Vitae’s counsellors - Anei ngā Kaiārahi o Vitae All Vitae counsellors and psychologists have at least 5 years of supervised experience after completing a tertiary qualification. Vitae carefully selects a diverse range of professionals to meet the needs of employees in NZ workplaces today. Counsellors are able to understand, respect and work with different ethnicities and/or belief systems.
