JOE IURATO
American, b 1973
Joe Iurato is a New Jersey based multidisciplinary artist whose works are built on a foundation of stencils and aerosol paint An internationally recognized street artist, gallery, and commercial artist, Iurato is known for having a distinctly clean and illustrative style. At the heart of his work are the stories, each shaped by personal experiences, influences and observations. His recollection of childhood, in all of its innocence, imaginative play, mischief and curiosity, is a recurring theme in Joe’s works – often told through depictions of his own kids, neighborhood friends and families he meets along the way. His mastery of scale and perspective best exemplified in his signature wooden cutouts creates a powerful dialogue between the artwork and its environment, manipulating space and challenging perceptions.
For nearly 20 years, Iurato has been dedicated to stencil art and exploring its possibilities. Outside, he works on varying scales, from mural to miniature, often creating site-specific installations that allow the surrounding environment to play a key role in the completion of the works’ narratives. His signature wooden cutouts highlight the unlimited potential for storytelling within the overlooked details of public space. In the studio, he uses a wide range of media, including found objects and reclaimed wood, to experiment, tinker, build and evolve
His works resonate across the globe, exhibited in cities such as London, New York, Miami, Taipei, and Berlin. Iurato’s collaborations with brands like GQ, Adidas, IPIC Theaters, and The NFL, along with his impressive murals across the United States and Europe further highlight his impact on contemporary art

BLEK LE RAT
French, b 1951
Blek Le Rat, born Xavier Prou in Boulogne-Billancourt, Paris, was one of the very first graffiti artists in Paris and has been described as the “Father of Stencil Graffiti” Blek was first introduced to graffiti during a trip to New York City in 1971 where he was inspired to bring the style back to Paris, adapting the stencil as a more fitting technique for French architecture He is best known for stenciling a giant graphic image of a rat all over Paris in the early 1980s, which to him symbolized both freedom and the dissemination of art through the city as if it were the plague. Blek, who has influenced generations of urban artists around the world, boasts a subtle social commitment and considers his images as a gift he gives to the city. His works often represent solitary individuals that can be encountered in the urban space–women, children, the elderly, and a diverse range of contemporary characters. In a desire to bring the people of the city closer to art, he quotes the great classics such as Caravaggio, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci. “I would like to bring the characters out of museums to return them to the people of the city.” His street art has appeared in cities across the world, and he has exhibited in New York, London, Los Angeles, Melbourne, and beyond

MR. BRAINWASH
French, b 1966
A provocative figure in the world of street art, Mr Brainwash practices an irreverent brand of appropriation characterized by the use of copyrighted images from history, popular culture, and art history. The artist subtly alters the picture or its context, mischievously undermining the tone of the source material. Brainwash, a pseudonym for Thierry Guetta, is known for producing massive spectacles to display his art. He came to prominence through mounting large-scale public projects in his current home of Los Angeles and as the main figure in the Banksy-directed film Exit Through the Gift Shop His work hinges on the idea that anything is possible in his practice. “Art has no walls. Anybody can be an artist,” he says. “Art has no rules. There’s no manual.”

CORNBREAD
American, b 1953
Cornbread, born Darryl McCray, is credited with being the first modern graffiti artist During the late 1960's, he and a group of friends started "tagging" Philadelphia, by writing their nicknames on walls across the city. His work has been celebrated as the genesis of modern graffiti culture, and he is considered one of the pioneers of tagging, paving the way for legendary graffiti artists like Taki 183 and Jean-Michel Basquiat. The movement spread to New York and blossomed into the modern graffiti movement, which reached its peak in the U.S. in the 1980’s and then spread to Europe
Since his tagging days, McCray has formed a close partnership with The Philadelphia Mural Arts Program; the largest public art initiative in the United States. Today, he works as a public speaker and youth advocate, giving motivational talks about his youth as a tagger and the struggles that came with it. His work is in the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and in many private collections globally. In 2013, McCray was honored at the Graffiti Hall of Fame for his contribution to hip-hop culture

SHEPARD FAIREY
American, b 1970
Shepard Fairey is an American graphic artist and social activist who blurs the boundary between traditional and commercial art through type and image, communicating his brand of social critique via prints, murals, stickers, and posters in public spaces. “Art is not always meant to be decorative or soothing, in fact, it can create uncomfortable conversations and stimulate uncomfortable emotions,” he stated. In 1989 Fairey created the André the Giant Has a Posse sticker campaign, featuring a stylized image of the wrestler André the Giant. This project was the foundation for his seminal Obey series, which helped to push Fairey into the public spotlight. The artist is perhaps best known for his Hope (2008) campaign, which portrays a portrait of then-presidential candidate Barack Obama, in red, white, and blue.

RICHARD HAMBLETON Canadian, 1952 - 2017
Richard Hambleton, often referred to as the “godfather of street art,” pioneered New York’s downtown art scene alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. He is best known for his menacing “Shadowmen” and “Horse and Rider” figures grisly black silhouettes that appear to have been painted mid-explosion. He tagged across the US and Canada before settling in New York in 1979 He tagged Lower Manhattan alleyways through the 1980s, then shifted his attention from the street to the studio, where he made works on canvas and paper. Hambleton showed at the Venice Biennale in the 1980s, yet he was largely forgotten in the ’90s and early 2000s, when his personal battles with illness and addiction alienated him from the art world. Now, Hambleton’s work can now be found in the collections of Brooklyn Museum, the Andy Warhol Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art, among others. At auction, his work regularly sells for six figures

LOGAN HICKS
American, b 1971
Logan Hicks is a New York-based artist known for his photorealistic stenciled paintings. Studying at the Maryland Institute of Contemporary Art in the early 1990s, Hicks cut his teeth as a successful screen printer, before being inspired to branch into stencils. Called a painter with a photographer’s eye, Hicks’ work has largely focused on the perception of the environment, at times humanizing its architectural angles and structures, and at others using its vastness to explore self-identity. With an old master’s approach to lighting, Hicks sculpts ordinary architectural scenes into deeply metaphorical and contemplative imagery through stenciled aerosol Over the years, Hicks has developed his impeccable photorealistic style using stencils, sometimes using up to 15 layers of stencil to achieve this precision. Working from his own photographs, subjects are translated to multiple layers of stencils, brought to bold dimensionality by blending colors through aerosol Hicks’ mastery has gained him worldwide recognition and resulted in the opportunity to create large-scale murals in Istanbul, Miami, Baltimore, New York, Tunisia, Paris, and beyond. In 2016 Hicks painted the acclaimed Houston Bower Wall in New York.
A monument first-generation graffiti artist, Kool Koor is best known for his spaceage inspired works that range from surreal scenes to intricate abstractions. Born Charles Hargrove, the artist began his career in the late 1970’s on the subway trains and throughout the urban landscape of New York City while attending the Art and Design School in Manhattan In doing so, the artist helped bring the South Bronx style to downtown Manhattan, at venues such as Fashion Mod, and transform the graffiti style away from just urban scrawl into an innovative movement in the artistic scene Along with friends and fellow artists Rammellzee, Crash, and Futura, Kool Koor stands at the basis of the New York graffiti movement. Kool Koor now lives and works in Brussels, Belgium.
PhoebeNewYork, an alter ego character for Libby Schoettle, first came to life in collages created with found objects, including vintage photographs, magazine pages, clothing, as well as old books, record covers, and the occasional iconic pop art element. The artist is drawn to materials that have been owned and handled by others, materials that have been touched over time and that will remain intact over time (or not).
From the streets of New York City to Philadelphia, Los Angeles, London, and Berlin, Schoettle reveals her own vulnerability, raw emotions, and witty observations through PhoebeNewYork‘s dark and funny explorations into love, feminism, political independence, and finding beauty in the mistaken. Libby and Phoebe have been featured in publications such as New York Magazine’s The Cut and Nylon and have been the subject of fashion collaborations with Victoria Beckham, Dr. Marten’s, and Lululemon, among others.
