QUESTION OF THE MONTH

U.S. EPA SMARTWAY AFFILIATE CHALLENGE AWARD HONOREE Wisconsin Clean Cities (WCC) joins an elite group of 10 SmartWay Affiliates recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with a 2014 SmartWay Affiliate Challenge award. EPA recognized these organizations for supporting policies and practices that reduce truck emissions and improve freight efficiency during a virtual awards presentation. WCC Executive Director, Lorrie Lisek, said they are pleased to be recognized by the US EPA as a SmartWay Affiliate Challenge Honoree. "The mission of WCC directly aligns with that of the SmartWay Program," said Lisek. "By providing education and outreach opportunities that encourage the use of alternative fuels, vehicles and technologies, WCC continually addresses issues that affect our air quality and overall quality of life. EPA RULING SHOWS WI AIR POLLUTION LOWEST IN 30 YEARS Milwaukee, Racine and Waukesha counties now meet all federal standards Sustained efforts by manufacturers, utilities and the transportation industry to reduce fine particle pollution achieved a long-sought victory Tuesday as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency declared Milwaukee, Racine and Waukesha counties in compliance with all federal air quality standards. Tuesday's approval, certifying compliance with the 2006 federal fine particle air standard, represents an important public health achievement and puts businesses in the region on a more competitive footing. For the state as a whole, the new designation certifies that Wisconsin has the lowest particle pollution in the past three decades. Read More

BARRIERS TO ADOPTING ALTERNATIVE FUELS SURVEY Barriers to the Adoption of Natural Gas, Electricity and Propane as Vehicle Fuels Tell us your opinion about the adoption of natural gas, electricity, and propane as vehicle fuels. Please fill out the survey as honestly and completely as possible. The survey is part of The Lake Michigan Corridor Alternative Fuel Implementation Initiative; a new U.S. Department of Energy grant-funded program through the Gas Technology Institute (GTI). As part of the grant, GTI, Chicago Area Clean Cities (CACC), South Shore Clean Cities (SSCC), and Wisconsin Clean Cities (WCC) are determining barriers to the adoption of alternative fuels. The results of this survey will be used to create specific educational documents and events.

The Wisconsin Natural Gas Vehicle Fuel Roundtable is a stakeholder forum created to provide information to businesses and citizens about natural gas as a transportation fuel and identify opportunities to expand the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG).

ALT. FUELS WORKSHOP & WI SMART FLEET PROGRAM The Alternative Fuels Workshop will bring together Wisconsin's experts on alternative fuels and technologies. The Wisconsin Smart Fleet Recognition Program will recognize the partners in our new program that was developed to help reduce their carbon footprint, meet their internal economic goals, and provide them with smart fleet branding opportunities. CHICAGO AREA CLEAN CITIES 20 TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION The Chicago Area Clean Cities Coalition (CACC) marks a major milestone in May 2014, celebrating 20 years of progress in cutting petroleum use in transportation. CACC members have worked for two decades to advance the deployment of alternative and renewable fuels, advanced vehicles, fuel economy improvements, idle-reduction measures, and new technologies as they emerge. Come celebrate this achievement at an evening reception May 21 at Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton, IL. The event is FREE if you register by May 9 and is open to all. Please note, if you register and do no attend or do not send a delegate in your place, you will be invoiced $50 for your unused reservation. MEMBERS IN THE NEWS Wisconsin Landfill to Expand Biomethane Project Wisconsin’s Dane County Landfill announced a $20 million expansion of the county’s Rodefeld landfill that will extend the life of the landfill another 30 years and enable the county to continue its clean energy innovations. The landfill is home to a successful biomethane project that currently produces enough natural gas to power roughly 4,000 homes and to fuel the county’s fleet of 30 CNG vehicles. Read More Time Transport Inc. partners with U.S. Oil for addition of 3 CNG stations (Appleton, WI) Time Transport Inc. is partnering with U.S. Oil for the addition of three new GAIN®Clean Fuel compressed natural gas (CNG) stations to supply Time’s CNG fleet. One GAIN station located south of Milwaukee along I-94 in Sturtevant, Wisconsin opened on Monday, April 7th. The other two will be located in the Chicago area, one near Channahon, IL at I-80/I-55 and one in Hodgkins, IL at I-294/I-55. Read More Propane Autogas School Buses are Mainstream Across the country, hundreds of thousands of students are transported daily to school in buses operating on propane autogas. It is the most commonly used alternative fuel in the nation and worldwide. Vehicles fueled by autogas comply with the same safety standards as their conventionally fueled counterparts. Blue Bird Type A and Type C school buses equipped with the ROUSH CleanTech autogas fuel system offer a rapid return on investment for school districts that want lower operating costs and reduced emissions. Odyne Systems Partners with Allison Transmission’s Midwest Distributor, Inland Power, to Deliver on $45.4 Million Contract Odyne Systems of Waukesha and Inland Power Group of Butler, Wisconsin have teamed up to deliver on a $45.4 million contract from the Department of Energy, administered through the Electric Power Research Institute, to install over 120 Odyne plug-in hybrids systems on work trucks to be deployed throughout North America. Together, Odyne and Inland have added over 12 jobs to support the contract. Read More
