CHRISTMAS greetings on main
Waverly’s annual Christmas Greetings on Main will return Thursday, December 13th, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. featuring live holiday windows and festive fun. HOSTED BY WAVERLY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND WAVERLY MERCHANTS.
By KAREN BUSHANAM karen.bushanam@wcfcourier.com WAVERLY — Even though the weather outside can be frightfully cold, Waverly business owner Ann Seggerman always feels a special warmth during her hometown’s annual holiday kickoff, Christmas Greetings on Main. “Just the down-home feeling, the sense of community and everybody is happy,” Seggerman said. This year Christmas Greetings on Main in Waverly will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 13. Activities are scheduled on Bremer Avenue between West Fourth and East Fourth streets. As the owner of the new main street business Renewed Purpose, Seggerman is looking forward to seeing Christmas Greetings on Main from the inside out. Her “unique finds and treasure shop” will be one of 40 windows decorated with live and still displays. Many participants are new to Main Street or new to the festivities. “So hopefully that will bring new life and new windows and new ideas and so it’s exciting,” said Tiffany Kudron, tourism and special events director for the Waverly Chamber of Commerce. New and old businesses alike bring creative new life to Christmas Greetings on Main year after year by creating exciting one of a kind window displays,” said Tiffany Kudron, tourism and special events director for the Waverly Chamber of Commerce. “This year we wanted to have a theme to create a cohesive feel for the downtown event,” Kudron said. Carrie Beenken, owner of The Changing Season, a decor, antiques and craft shop, will recruit family to build a snowmen out of cottonballs at her store. She’s decorated a window for Christmas Greetings on Main for several years. “It’s really just a magical night,” Beenken said. “There’s so much good cheer, good Christmas cheer in the air and just seeing people’s faces when they walk by and see the windows, it’s just awesome.” Business owners and organizations that partner with Main Street shops traditionally set up their space just prior to the event so the end result is often a surprise until the celebration itself. Other activities scheduled during Christmas Greetings on Main include free horse-drawn trolley rides by Heritage Farms departing from the Fareway Stores in Waverly and demonstrations by Chain Reaction Carvings. Santa Claus will be in town to take requests. Designated “hot spots” will keep people warm with hot cocoa donated by Nestle. The Jaycees will serve up S’mores. Christmas Greetings on Main is a way to bring people together, said Emily Neuendorf, executive director for the Waverly Chamber of Commerce. “The holiday community spirit is probably the best part of that event,” Neuendorf said.
