Sissy’s Sircus going big for its next show with ‘Delusions of Grandeur’ JOHN MOLSEED john.molseed@wcfcourier.com‌

CEDAR FALLS — Drag Queen and burlesque leader Sissy Allen and her troupe the Misfits are billing their latest Sissy’s Sircus show as the group’s finale.

However, anyone who thinks this show, “Delusions of Grandeur,” will be Sissy’s final bow is delusional.

Over the last four years, Sissy’s Sircus has produced main stage burlesque and dance shows at the Oster Regent Theater in Cedar Falls. Sissy and cast have led audiences on a delirious romp through a candy shop in 2011, a sci-fi themed show, “Future Lovers,” in 2012 and enticed audiences to embrace their wild side in a jungle-themed show in 2013.

Several senior members of the cast and production crew who participated in most or all of those shows will be moving on. Many are University of Northern Iowa students who are graduating or are recent graduates who are moving on to explore other opportunities.

The continuity helped the show reach new heights each year, said Laura Neill, production and company manager for the show.

“Theater is a process, and it’s a learning experience,” Neill said. “So every year we

learn more and every year we learn to be a little more confident.”

Neill described the people leaving as “graduating” from the Sircus. What comes next is up to the next class.

Young Artists concerts planned at Hearst Center CEDAR FALLS — Friends of the Hearst are offering auditions for the Young Artists Concert series set for February and March.

Students who live in or study with instructors in Cedar Falls are eligible to participate.

Students must be recommended by their school music instructor or private teacher to be considered for the performance. Chamber music ensembles of five or fewer are welcome, as well as performances of solo repertoire.

T h e j u n i o r d iv i s i o n , grades five through eight, will audition at the Hearst Center on Feb. 8 for the concert planned for Feb. 23.

Senior division, grades nine through 12, will audition Feb. 15 for the concert to take place March 2.
