Waverly’s annual Christmas Greetings on Main will return Thursday, December 12, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. featuring live holiday windows and festive fun. Hosted by Waverly Chamber of Commerce and Waverly merchants. By JOHN MOLSEED john.molsed@wcfcourier.com WAVERLY — Candi Cheville said she was excited to open her new business on Bremer Avenue in downtown Waverly. The street is downtown’s main thoroughfare, which means more traffic. It’s also the avenue for the annual Christmas Greetings on Main, which means she gets to decorate her storefront for the event. “I’ve been looking forward to this,” said Cheville, owner of Scrubs N Style. The annual Christmas Greetings on Main celebration will light up downtown Waverly Dec. 12. Scrubs N Style will be one of several businesses opening their stores and decorating their windows for shoppers and revelers. The event will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Some businesses let other groups use their storefronts to set up a holiday display. Cheville is planning her own set-up. Most storefronts will feature more than lights and garland. Craw Daddy Outdoors will feature country band the Double J Wranglers performing in one of the stores three front windows. “A static display isn’t as much fun,” said Craw Daddy’s owner Darrin Siefken. Music will piped outdoors for people to listen outside, Siefken said. People are also welcome to warm up and listen to the music inside the store. The business will be open to shoppers, but revelers are welcome too, he added. Platinum Event Sponsors

“It’s just a fun night to get people out,” he said. Doing more than decorating is one of the points of the event, said Tiffany Kudron, tourism and special events director for the Waverly Chamber of Commerce. “Every year we have a lot of businesses new and old that bring the event to life,” Kudron said. Businesses and groups that partner with Main Street shops usually set up their space just before to the event so the final designs are a surprise until the day of the celebration. The theme for the 2013 Christmas Greetings on main is “magical, merry and bright.” Participants are encouraged to play on the theme for their displays. The theme gives people many choices for interpretation, Kudron said. Free horse-drawn trolley rides stop at the Fareway store courtesy of Heritage Farms. Santa will look over the festivities from the bucket of a Waverly Light and Power boom truck parked across from the trolley stop. Santa will also be available for visits at his house set up in Kohlmann Park. Keeping with tradition, the Waverly Jaycees will serve up s’mores. Hot chocolate will be available at “warm-up” stations along the decorated route.
