There’s no place like home. I may not be a Waverly native, but it is my home. I liked Waverly during my years as a college student at Wartburg, but I’ve fallen in love with the community over the past 15 years my husband and I have been working and raising our kids here. Our community has so many great aspects that it’s difficult to point to what makes Waverly special. Is it the friendly residents, vibrant businesses or the high performing schools? Or maybe it’s having a community-focused liberal arts college or a nationally recognized hospital? I firmly believe it’s the combination of all of these that factors and more that goes into making Waverly an incredible place to live, work and play. Our Waverly Chamber of Commerce plays a key role in the success of our town. We are in an exciting, but also challenging time for our local businesses as Bremer Avenue is rebuilt. Earlier this year, the Chamber staff and board worked on a new strategic plan for the organization to ensure we are meeting the needs of our members and the community at large. Our primary strategic goals and actions over the next three years are designed to assist our Chamber members with maintaining and growing their businesses during the construction project. If you are a current Chamber member, we look forward to continuing our partnership with you. We are committed to planning successful retail and community events to help you grow your business and strengthen your brand. Our committees work tirelessly with the staff to promote a positive image of Waverly and to encourage tourism and shopping local. Please contact one of our board members or staff if you have suggestions on ways we can better serve you and our community. If you currently are not a Chamber member, I encourage you to consider joining as a business or an individual investor. It opens up a whole world of new opportunities to network, learn and invest in yourself and your business. I can honestly say that I have created many connections that have enhanced my career, and my personal life is more rewarding because of the friendships I’ve developed through the Chamber. Over the past four years, we’ve hosted thousands of visitors from across the state and country through events such as RAGBRAI, the Gentlemen of the Road Stopover and the Iowa Firefighters Convention. It’s time to ask ‘What’s next?’ I’m excited to have the opportunity to serve as the Chair of the Waverly Chamber of Commerce in 2018. I invite anyone who wants to be a part of the action to renew or join the Chamber and then take advantage of the many benefits that are offered. There’s no place like home — and home is Waverly!
