Off the Mat Training

Strength & Conditioning for Middle & High School Wrestlers

This 12-week strength program is designed to guide young athletes through a progressive training protocol that will prepare their bodies for the unique rigors of a wrestling season. The program includes six in-person classes within the 12 weeks that will cover the technique for all of the exercises, ensuring every participant learns skills that will carry over to their workouts outside of the class. Along with the in-person classes, the participants will be provided a daily program of exercises to follow on their own that will allow them to build off of the progress they are making in the strength classes.

Instructor: Dr. Jacob Travis

About the instructor: Sport-specific training is a passion of the program’s instructor, Dr. Jacob Travis, who was a high-school wrestler himself and feels that population has been underserved in terms of specific training and education. As an assistant wrestling coach at Ravenwood High School and physical therapist at a Sports Performance clinic in Nashville, he has a rare combination of knowledge that will serve these young athletes in many ways. His goal is for each athlete to learn the importance of sportspecific training, become comfortable and confident working out on their own, and to get excited about improving their performance on the mat by committing to improving their strength and conditioning over the summer.
