Last year, more than 77,000 people attended our cultural events, which included a a lecture by historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, a performance by a Japanese drumming troupe, children’s theatre shows, art exhibits, and much more. Additionally, through live streaming technology, more than 51,000 viewers in 49 countries enjoyed a WCU cultural event remotely.

One of the country’s most respected journalists and a doyenne of the Supreme Court, Nina is National Public Radio’s award-winning legal affairs correspondent. With more than 40 years’ experience at NPR, her reports are regularly featured on NPR‘s All Things Considered, Morning Edition, and Weekend Edition. Henry Winkler has enjoyed over four decades of success in Hollywood and continues to be in demand as an actor, producer and director. Audiences always leave Henry’s presentations inspired and entertained. Through humorous anecdotes and inspirational life lessons about overcoming adversity to his storied career in television and entertainment, groups of all ages can learn from Henry’s speeches. His passion for supporting others is the result of a lifetime struggle with undiagnosed dyslexia. Henry has worked tirelessly to bring awareness and support to children who learn differently by advocating for changes in the educational system and informing parents and teachers about learning challenges.

Masters of Soul is a celebration of the legendary songs and performers that defined Motown and soul music. This 90-minute show features stylishly costumed, fully choreographed performances of both male and female groups backed by a live band. For many, Masters of Soul is the ultimate stroll down memory lane. Nobuntu, the female a cappella quintet from Zimbabwe, has drawn international acclaim for its inventive performances that range from traditional Zimbabwean songs to Afro Jazz to Gospel. If you are attending a weekday event between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm and are unable to find parking in the suggested lot, you may pay to park in one of the conveniently located parking garages. The New Street Parking Garage and the Sharpless Street Parking Garage are located on North Campus within a short walking distance to all venues. The New Street Parking Garage is available MONDAY – WEDNESDAY: 8 am – 10 pm for visitors, faculty, or students at an hourly rate. The THURSDAY – FRIDAY: 8 am – 12 am Matlack structure requires a permit, but is available SATURDAY: 5 pm – 12 am for special event parking at no charge. 8

As the play begins, Fefu is railing against women to her friends Cindy and Christina. After Fefu’s done, she lets her guests in on a cat-and-mouse game that she plays with her unseen husband, consisting of her firing a gun at him. Pretty soon, the rest of the gang shows up at the door: A showboat named Emma makes a glamorous entrance in traditional Indian robes; the repressed Sue and Paula enter tentatively; and the handicapped Julia is rolled in on a wheelchair that she may or may not need as a result of an injury that Fefu may or may not have inflicted. 20th Annual Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS Benefit Concert and Silent Auction! The West Chester University Department of Theatre and Dance has held an annual benefit concert and silent auction for BC/EFA for the last 19 years. Throughout the years, hundreds of WCU students have worked together to perform multiple songs, dances, class numbers and more in order to raise money for this amazing cause. Over the years, WCU Theatre and Dance has raised over $100,000 for BC/EFA with last year being another record breaking year raising over $17,000! Holocaust and Genocide Studies Lecture Series
The Sandra F. Pritchard Mather Planetarium at West Chester
University holds evening shows for the general public. The live monthly presenttions are hosted by a PhD astronomer and consist of an overview of what is visible in the current night sky. In addition, a portion of each show focuses on a particular aspect of astronomy. Pre-recorded movie shows are offered as well. The movies shows, presented by WCU students, offer a shorter tour of the night sky followed by a full-dome movie. All shows start promptly at 7 p.m. and run approximately one hour.
Admission is $6 per person. Children under the age of 5 may sit on a parent’s lap free of charge. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time by calling the SSI ticket office at 610-436-2266 or by going on-line at http://wcupatix.com. The planetarium is wheelchair accessible.
Live shows for 2019-2020: Dr. Asaf Romirowsky, director of Scholars for Peace in the Middle East Dr. Romirowsky received his Ph.D. from Kings College London and has written numerous articles about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He will speak about the current state of the peace process.

Dr. Wolf Gruner, Shapell-Guerin Chair in Jewish Studies and Professor of history at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles Dr. Gruner, who received his Ph.D. from the Technical University in Berlin, has authored 11 books and over 50 articles. He will be speaking about the Nazi use of Jewish forced labor during the Holocaust.
