An active freelancer in the Philadelphia region, Dobrzelewski holds the positions of Professor of Trumpet and Assistant Dean at West Chester University of Pennsylvania School of Music, Conference Director for the International Trumpet Guild, Executive Director for the Caribbean Brass Institute, and founding member of the Grammy nominated Tromba Mundi Trumpet Ensemble. In addition, Jean-Christophe is brass coordinator and resident faculty for the Aruba Symphony Summer Festival. Formerly, he held the position as co-principal trumpet of the Midland-Odessa Symphony and the Lone Star Brass in Texas. Jean-Christophe’s solo recordings include CDs such as Tryptique, Tryptique Renewal, and Eternal Source of Light Divine with organ. Chamber music recordings from Tromba Mundi include Tromba Mundi, Sinfonia Americana, and Quest for Adventure. In addition, he can be heard on the MSR Classics recording of American music for brass and wind ensemble, Shadowcatcher (2011), a project for which he served as Executive Producer and was made possible thanks to funding he received from a National Endowment for the Arts grant. All recordings are available on iTunes. Jean-Christophe has participated as editor and typesetter in over 150 works on the Hickman Music Edition catalogue. He has also published several chamber music arrangements, as well as a set of sixteen-volume of orchestral excerpts for trumpet. These excerpt books are widely used around the world and have been recommended study material for previous New York Philharmonic trumpet auditions. Jean-Christophe Dobrzelewski received a “Prix de Trompette” from the Rueil-Malmaison Conservatory of Music in Paris, a Master of Music from the University of Maine, and a Doctor of Music Arts degree from Arizona State University, all in the area of performance. Robert Skoniczin is a native of southeastern Pennsylvania and has enjoyed a varied career as a trumpeter and teacher in the region and beyond. An active freelance musician and noted pedagogue in the region, he is well known to concertgoers. Rob’s role in Tromba Mundi has been the go-to utility player that every organization dreams of having. At one time or another, he has subbed for, covered for, and perhaps even lied for every person in the ensemble. We are thrilled to have him as a regular member of the group for this tour! Rob is principal trumpet with OperaDelaware and has performed with The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Delaware Symphony Orchestra, Bach Choir (and Festival Orchestra) of Bethlehem (PA), New Jersey Opera Theatre, Opera Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Ballet, Peter Nero and the Phillly Pops, Philadelphia Orchestra Community Outreach, Reading Symphony, Ocean City Pops, Wilmington String Ensemble, Gramercy Brass Orchestra, Sammy Kaye Orchestra and Brian Pastor Big Band. Mr. Skoniczin can be heard on several recordings including Manhattan Transfer’s DVD The Christmas Concert, American Anthems with the Gramercy Brass Orchestra and numerous spots for NFL Films. After graduating as the valedictorian of his high school class, Mr. Skoniczin received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Gettysburg College and his Master of Music in Orchestral Performance from Manhattan School of Music. His principal teachers have included Vince Penzarella of the New York Philharmonic and Christopher Tranchitella of the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra. In 2002, Mr. Skoniczin received the Cecil Collins Award from Manhattan School of Music for Outstanding Brass Performance. In 2007, Rob was named associate conductor for Bravo Brass, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Brass Ensemble program. This ensemble is designed to further the musicianship of advanced middle school and high school brass and percussion players of the greater Delaware Valley region. Rob is a member of the National Band Association, the International Trumpet Guild, the American Federation of Musicians and Phi Beta Kappa.

Etienne Charles is the Assistant Professor of Jazz Trumpet at Michigan State University. Hailed byNew York Times as “an auteur” and by Jazz Times as “A daring improviser who delivers with heart wrenching lyricism.” According to Downbeat Magazine “Charles delivers his ebullient improvisations with the elegance of a world-class ballet dancer.” Etienne has received critical acclaim for his exciting performances, thrilling compositions and knack for connecting with audiences worldwide. In June 2012, Etienne was written into the US Congressional Record for his musical contributions to Trinidad & Tobago and the World. Perhaps more than any other musician of his generation or Eastern Caribbean origin, Etienne brings a careful study of myriad rhythms from the French, Spanish, English and Dutch speaking Caribbean to the table. Crucially, as a soloist, he fully understands the New Orleans trumpet tradition (which is readily discernible in his trademark instrumental swagger) and what famed Crescent City Pianist, Jelly Roll Morton so succinctly captured in the now immortal phrase, ‘The Spanish Tinge’. His latest recording, Creole Soul has received critical acclaim worldwide for it’s fusion of root grooves from the Afro-Caribbean. His previous release, Kaiso (Culture Shock Music 2011), features his arrangements and interpretations of the music of calypso legends Lord Kitchener, Mighty Sparrow & Roaring Lion. As a sideman he has performed and or recorded with Monty Alexander, Roberta Flack, Frank Foster, Ralph MacDonald, Johnny Mandel, Wynton Marsalis, Marcus Roberts, Maria Schneider, Count Basie Orchestra, Eric Reed, Lord Blakie, David Rudder and many others. He holds a Master’s degree from the Juilliard School and a Bachelor’s degree from Florida State University. For more information please visit etiennecharles.com Steven Heitzer, a native Philadelphian, is an active classical trumpet player in the tri-state area. He is a member of Opera Philadelphia, Philadelphia Brass, Fairmount Brass Quartet, Bach Festival Orchestra of Bethlehem, Reading Symphony, and Ocean City Pops Orchestra. He is also a frequent performer with Delaware Symphony, Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Ballet Orchestra, Lancaster Symphony, and the Walnut Street Theatre. Steve’s many performing credits include Dave Brubeck, Branford Marsalis, Roger Daltry & The Who, Weird Al Yankovic, Vanessa Williams, Andrea Bocelli, Don Rickles, Peter Nero, and Luciano Pavoratti, among others. Steven’s main musical interest besides playing the trumpet is arranging music. He has scored nearly 200 brass arrangements for The Philadelphia Brass, Delaware Symphony, and Ocean City Pops Orchestra, as well as works for various string quartets, choirs, and organists around the Philadelphia region. He received his undergraduate degree from Temple University and his master’s degree from Manhattan School of Music. In his spare time, when not arranging or composing music, Steve enjoys watching foreign films, frequenting modern art museums, and never-quite-finishing crossword puzzles.

Maller Baroque Brass Instruments is dedicated to making authentic brass instruments. Founder David L. Maller, a protĂŠgĂŠ of the late, legendary instrument maker Ronald K. Collier, carefully hand-crafts each instrument using traditional techniques. This craftsmanship creates instruments that are easier to play and also produces a genuine, historic sound in comparison to their contemporary machine-produced baroque counterparts. Maller Baroque Brass Instruments currently offers a natural trumpet designed by David Maller with the 17th century style bell flair, a copy of the trumpet by Johann Leonhard Ehe II (1720), and a full line of sackbuts. The Maller line also offers instruments from several periods. In addition to historic hand-made reproductions from several periods, the Maller line offers traditional cornets as well as modern trumpets & trombones that take advantage of combining old-world handcrafting methods with the most precise machine manufacturing techniques available today.
