ARTIST PROFILE Sean Yancer joined the Dana School of Music of Youngstown State University in 2018 as full-time Lecturer of Horn. Sean has a multifaceted career as an orchestral performer, chamber musician, commercial artist and educator. Recently, Sean has performed with the Michigan Opera Theater Orchestra, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, The Who and “Weird Al� Yankovic. He also has performed with CityMusic Cleveland, Cleveland Pops Orchestra, Blue Water Chamber Orchestra and orchestras throughout Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, and Ontario. During his time in New York City, Sean played in the Broadway orchestras of the Lion King, Man of La Mancha, Phantom of the Opera and on the stages of Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Sean was a member of the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan and the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, Colorado. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the Ohio State University and a Master of Music from the University of Michigan. At Michigan he studied with Detroit Symphony member Bryan Kennedy and renowned soloist Soren Hermansson, and later began studies towards a DMA at SUNY Stony Brook with William Purvis. He has traveled to Oslo, Norway numerous times to study horn and pedagogy with world renowned horn soloist and master teacher Froydis Ree Wekre.
