Translations Kyrie eleison Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy. Sanctus Holy, holy, holy Lord, Lord God of the Sabbath. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest! Ave verum Hail, true Body, born of the Virgin Mary, having truly suffered, sacrificed on the cross for mankind, from whose pierced side water and blood flowed. Be for us a foretaste [of the heavenly banquet] in the trial of death. O sweet Jesus, O holy Jesus, O Jesus son of Mary, have mercy on me. Le Reniement de Saint Pierre (The Denial of Saint Peter) Chorus: When Jesus had dined with his disciples and given them his body to eat and his blood to drink, they went out together to the Mount of Olives. Jesus said to them: Jesus: You will all be offended for my sake tonight. For it is written: I will smite the shepherd and the sheep of the flock will be scattered. Chorus: But Peter, replying, said to him: Peter: Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended. Jesus: Verily I say unto you, Peter, that this night, before the cock crows, you will deny me three times. Peter: Ah! Lord! Though I should die with you, I not deny you. Chorus: Likewise all the disciples said, "We will not deny you." Evangelist: Then Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves ran up to Jesus and held him. And seeing this, the disciples fled. And Peter stretched out his hand and drew his sword and struck a servant of the high priest and cut off his ear. And Jesus said to him: Jesus: Peter, put away your sword. Do you not wish me to drink the cup that my Father has given me? Evangelist: Therefore the soldiers of the Jews took Jesus and bound him and led him to the chief priests. Peter followed at a distance, even to the house of the bishop. A doorkeeper saw him and said to him: Doorkeeper: Are you not also a disciple of that man? Peter: O woman! I am not. I do not know the man. Chorus: And Peter entered the house. As he sat by the fire with the servants and soldiers to warm himself, another servant said to him: Servant: Were you also with Jesus of Nazareth? Peter: O woman, I was not! I do not know the man. Evangelist: Then a relative of the one whose ear he had cut off questioned him: Relative: Did I not see you in the garden with him? Did you not cut off Malchus' ear? Surely it was you. Doorkeeper: Aren't you a Galilean? Surely you are. Servant: Even your accent gives you away. You are a disciple of that man. Peter: I am not. Surely I was not. I don't know what you are talking about. Chorus: And immediately the cock crew. Chorus: Then Jesus looked at Peter and Peter remembered the words of Jesus, and he went out, and wept bitterly.
Die Sieben Worte Jesu am Kreuz (The Seven Words of Jesus on the Cross) Chorus: Muse in your heart the seven words that Jesus pronounced in bitter sorrows when he was on the cross, covered with wounds. Evangelist: And it was in the third hour, that they crucified Jesus. But he said: Jesus: Father, forgive them, because they do not know what they do! Evangelist: By Jesus' cross stood his mother and his mother's sister Maria, wife of Cleophas, and Maria Magdalena. When Jesus saw his mother and near her the young man he had loved, he said to his mother: Jesus: Woman, behold your son! Evangelist: And then he said to the young one: Jesus: John, behold your mother! Evangelist: And from then on the young man took her with him. But one of the two villains that were hung there, insulted him by saying: Left Thief: You are the Christ, so help yourself and us! Evangelist: But the other replied, rebutting him: Right Thief: And you, do you not fear God, you who are damned like me? We are suffering a just fate, because we gather the fruits of our actions; but he did nothing bad. Evangelist: And he said to Jesus: Right Thief: Lord, remember me when you will be in your kingdom! Evangelist: And Jesus said to him: Jesus: In truth, I tell you: today you'll be in Heaven with me. Chorus: And in the ninth hour, Jesus screamed: Jesus: Eli, Eli, lama asabthani? Chorus: which means: Jesus: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Evangelist: Then, since he knew that all was accomplished so that the scriptures were fulfilled, Jesus said: Jesus: I am thirsty! Evangelist: And one of the centurions came, took a sponge, filled it with vinegar and hyssop put it on a reed, raised it to his mouth and he drank. When Jesus had drunk the vinegar, he said. Jesus: All is finished. Evangelist: And again he cried and said: Jesus: Father, I commend my spirit into your hands! Chorus: And after saying this, he lowered his head and gave up his spirit. Chorus: Those who honor the martyrdom of God and often remember the seven words, God will certainly take care of, here on earth through his grace, and there in eternal life.
