ARTIST PROFILES

James A. Devor has composed or arranged this year’s Harpfest music by studying harp composition and the harp minor with Professor Galante . He studies music education, music theory & composition, string bass performance, music history, and jazz studies at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. He has been composing and arranging since middle school, and has studied composition under Daron Hagen, Robert Maggio, Erica Ball, and Adam Silverman. James was recently awarded the Excellence in Student Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activities (SCRA) Award, and the Margaret Carey Composition Award through West Chester University of Pennsylvania. James hopes to continue his educational experience through further degrees in musical composition. He studies bass with Peter Paulsen.

Suzzette Ortiz is a gifted pianist, singer, arranger, composer and choral conductor. She has received multiple awards from the city of Camden and the US senate including the Martin Luther freedom medal for her work as a teacher. She taught for the Camden, New Jersey School District for 27 years, where she directed the acclaimed Creative Arts Morgan Village Academy Concert choir, the Treble Choir, Men/Barbershop, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and Co-directed the Show Choir. Her choirs won multiple awards both nationally and internationally. Under her direction, the choirs won first and second place in Italy, Prague, Puerto Rico, Ghana, Poland, Virginia, Nashville, Tennessee, New Orleans, New York and Orlando, Florida. She currently serves as Artistic Director for the Asociacion de Musicos Latinos Americanos (AMLA) As a pianist, Ortiz has been a luminary in Philadelphia's Latin Music scene for the better part of two decades. She performed with the female Latin-jazz group ELLAS and even garnered four Latin Grammy nominations with Philadelphia salsa group Orquesta La Paz. Her compositions have been published by the Jazz Bridge Philadelphia Real Book and Hal Leonard.


Elizabeth Roding/Liz Roding is an alumni of WCU with a Bachelors in Vocal Performance and in Psychology. She has performed in England, Ireland and Wales. She is currently singing and working at The Victor Cafe in South Philadelphia. Liz sings at St. Agnes, and freelances online as a songwriter in addition to recording her own songs. She is a former member of WCU’s Concert Choir and can be heard on the recording of the Stravinsky Mass as the soprano solo. She has also performed in key events such as Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia and was a member of the Papal Choir representing West Chester’s parish at St. Agnes. Liz is thrilled to sing at Wells School of Music Harpfestival. She continues to study voice and pursue a career as a singer, songwriter, artist, and writer. Queen of the night is the most famous Aria from “The Magic Flute”. It was composed by W. A. Mozart for coloratura Opera singer reaching the highest note of F.
