With 759 square miles of rolling woodlands, 240 lakes, 79 rivers and 35 trout streams you can fish, hunt, swim, boat, hike, golf, bowl, ski, snowmobile, and of course shop! We have it all, the amenities of a big city to the charm of a rural community. Hospitality takes the high road when you visit us. We want you to come and enjoy what we take for granted every day, beautiful land, water and skies. Need a place to stay for the night or week? We have everything from beautiful hotel suites to the charm of local bed & breakfasts, rustic or full hook up camping, resort living or vacation rentals. We guarantee you’ll feel ‘at home’ no matter what your style. Centrally located, you can reach us via State Highways 10, 54, 45 and 22 or fly in to one of our many wonderful airports which can accommodate aircrafts up to small jets. Maybe you want to come by watercraft, the Wolf River connects us to the Great Lakes and the mighty Mississippi. Iola

Settled in the Mid-1800s, Iola’s Norwegian heritage is still evident in warm hospitality, coffee breaks, and touches of Scandinavian accents which make it “A Very Special Place.” Held annually the second weekend in July, Iola Old Car Show is attended by over 100,000 car enthusiasts with up to 2,500 show cars. Glacier Wood Golf Course offers a beautiful eighteen-hole challenging course nestled in the rolling glacier forests. The Iola Vintage Military, Gun, Vintage Tractors & Equipment Show is held the second weekend in August. Water related activities are abundant with a multitude of lakes and streams. Driving on the serene roadways you’ll see a variety of wildlife. Iola’s Historical Society Complex consists of a depot, town hall, one-room log cabin, one-room schoolhouse and a replica 1901 firehouse. Iola Winter Sports Complex features ski-jumping, and more than four miles of lighted cross-country ski- trails. Norseman Hill hosts the Iola Winter Carnival ski functions and Badger State Games the first weekend in February—in conjunction there’s the traditional Lutefisk dinner. Manawa

For over 50 years, Manawa is Rodeo City, featuring PRCA MidWestern Rodeo excitement. As one of the best professional rodeos in the Great Lakes Circuit, it attracts over 15,000 people annually to Manawa. Outdoor activities are always plentiful: the Little Wolf River flows southwest through the city, offering fishing and canoeing. Snowmobilers find trails through and around Manawa. Cedar Springs Golf Course is open to the public, and is friendly to the beginner and a test to the serious golfer. Bear Lake Campground is one of the area’s finest, and still close downtown shopping. A number of ponds and parks will allow families to enjoy and study the beauty of central Wisconsin. Marion

Recreational opportunities abound in this small community in northeastern Waupaca County. Ogdensburg

The natives call it “The Burg”. The public call it Paradise Located in the geographic center of Waupaca County, Ogdensburg bears the name of Caleb Ogden, who served his hometown, his country, his state and his county first as co-founder of the village, next as the District Attorney of Waupaca County, then as a Circuit Judge for 28 years and then, along with his son, the founders of two newspapers (the County Republican and the County Post.) With a population of some 200 people, “the Burg” is a pleasant and neighborly place to reside or to visit. Four public parks offer venue for athletic competition in basketball, baseball and for a variety of winter sports like ice skating, cross county skiing and snowmobiling. The Ogdensburg/St Lawrence Volunteer First Responders holds a periodic fundraiser with an annual Pancake Breakfast at the Fire House which features raffles, Kids ID’s, silent auctions, held the last Sunday in October. Another event scheduled for late Summer “09 in the 9th annual Ogdensburg Athletic Club’s Sports event known to the world as the OGLYMPICS.

Scandinavia

Scandinavia’s areas picturesque setting among lakes, streams, and fertile soil attracted the first Norwegian settlers in the early 1850s. Once known as “The Indian Land” Scandinavia’s township was incorporated in 1854. The area offers great hunting and fishing opportunities with deer, turkey and many species of fish. The former GB&W Railroad has been converted to a hiking and biking trail during summer months and groomed snowmobile trails in the winter. Scandinavia is home to the Scandinavia Vikings Baseball team. The annual corn roast weekend held the first weekend in August attracts people from all over and serves as an annual “homecoming”. There’s plenty of entertainment, great food, family entertainment, ball games, carnival rides, ATV and Farm & Antique Tractor pulls along—and of course the annual corn roast and pie social held on Sunday. Scandinavia Lutheran Church continues to serve and be a cornerstone in the community and remains the first and oldest institution as it has been for over 154 years. The Friends of Scandinavia History are working on a number of preservation projects for the community. Scandinavia invites you to stop by and enjoy the “down home” values that are shared among the businesses, organizations and people!

Symco

Visit the Symco area nestled in the heart of Waupaca County. Early settlers founded St. Mark Lutheran Church and Parochial School.

Enjoy the historic village of Old Symco, called Unionville, the town’s original name, constructed by the Union Threshermen right in Symco. Even the old bridge has been ‘saved’ by the Threshermen. Stroll through the Turn of the Century Street, where many old buildings from the past, rescued from destruction, have been relocated and refurbished. On the last full weekend in July , come to the Thresheree . At Ferg’s Bavarian Village, west of Symco off Highway 161, on Ferg Road, we step into another era of time. The century old farmstead, in the Ferg family since 1898, has been restored to resemble an Alpine village. Found here is a bed and breakfast with feather beds and down comforters, a gift shop featuring European imports including nutcrackers, smokermen, cuckoo clocks, and glass ornaments. German food and refreshments are served in the biergarten. Join us as crowds gather for Oktoberfest on the second Saturday in August. Christmas is celebrated with life-sized Christmas scenes including the Silent Night Church displayed lit from 4:30 until 9:00 p.m. nightly from Thanksgiving through New Year’s day.

Waupaca Chain O’Lakes

Nestled amongst pristine spring-fed lakes and the Crystal and Waupaca Rivers in Central Wisconsin is the Waupaca Chain O’ Lakes Area, consisting of the City of Waupaca, the King area, and neighboring villages. This thriving community was settled in the mid-to-late 1800’s and is home to about 25,000 residents (about 6,000 in the City of Waupaca itself). The unique natural features of the area marry its rich history to entice visitors year-round. Originally, the Menomonie tribe had many villages here and considered the area sacred. Our Native heritage is still apparent – for example, one of the most popular features on ‘the Chain’ is the famous Indian Crossing, a channel between Lime Kiln and Columbia Lakes. Hartman Creek State Park, the Ice Age and River Ridge Trails, and dozens of community parks, public beaches and boat landings are just a few of the places to discover nature and pursue water activities. The area also offers shopping, business, and entertainment to rival that of many larger communities – plus museums, galleries, zoos, festivals, and music. With a solid business community, a diverse and friendly populace, and a natural playground all around, it’s no wonder so many find the Waupaca Chain O’ Lakes Area so irresistible.

Weyauwega

Weyauwega (pronounced Y-O-Wega) was established 153 years ago. What the Menominee Indian-originated name means has several interpretations - none of which can be sure. As original as its name, this small city of close to 2,000 people has charm and character. Just stepping off U.S. Highway 10 in Central Wisconsin, you’ll leave the fast lane.

It’s also a great place to enjoy inner tubing and canoeing or just spend some leisure time on the banks of the river.

Cty. Hwy. X New London, WI This 1,500 acre marshland located just west of New London is famous for the annual migration of Walleye, White Bass, Catfish and spawning Sturgeon along its river banks. Outdoor enthusiasts can also observe duck, pheasant, deer and turkey in their natural habitat.

New London Skate Park

Partridge Lake Park Fremont, WI Locally known as the Fremont Beach, it is located at the intersection of Lake Street and Wolf River Drive. The marked swimming area has a sand beach with picnic tables, grills, and an open sided shelter. A restroom with running water, pay phone and soda machine are near the shelter. The beach is “use at your own risk” with no lifeguard on duty.

River Ridge Trail Waupaca, WI The City of Waupaca and volunteers have developed the River Ridge Trail, which will eventually encircle the entire city. Much of this trail is within Swan Park on the city’s northwest side, off Hwy. 49. Walk, hike or bike over 25 miles of trail.

X New London, WI 715-258-6243 www.waupacacountyparks.com This beautifully landscaped, blacktopped 1600 foot Wolf River trail is a favorite vantage point for people to closely observe Wisconsin’s oldest and largest fish. Each spring when water temperatures reach the desired 52 - 54 degrees, the Sturgeon begin their spawning ritual on the rip-rapped shoreline. Visit dnr.wi.gov/fish/sturgeon for spawning report.
