AURORA The Sudan Shriners turned out in force at Aurora’s annual Christmas parade, held Dec. 8 along Main Street in Aurora. From child-sized 18-wheelers to skidding and twirling mini-motorbikes and a horse-drawn carriage (pictured on page 1B) trailed by a parade of Shriner “mourners,” the civic group celebrated Christmas, parade-style. Joining the Shriners were a large turnout of area emergency response vehicles, the Southside High School marching band, car clubs and ATV-riders, all decked for the holidays. Though the skies were gray that Sunday afternoon, the sun poked through to light up Santa’s cruise through the town on the south side of the Pamlico.

BATH The Bath Christmas parade was held Sunday, Dec. 14. Corvettes, Bel Airs and many other classic, iconic hot rods littered the street with sweet treats to all the kids in attendance. The floats were decked out with Santa Claus, gingerbread men, snow angels and the occasional Grinch. It was truly a spectacle of the Christmas spirit. PHOTOS BY MITCHELL THOMAS

BELHAVEN It was a weekend of Christmas cheer Dec. 13-15 in Belhaven, with a great variety of holiday activities for young and old. After Santa Claus arrived in town Friday afternoon, an ugly Christmas sweater contest yielded a number of winners. Following the parade Saturday morning, activities spanned from the old Town Hall to the Wilkinson Center, as visitors delighted in the Belhaven Arts Council’s Festival of Trees, Toy Trains of Belhaven, a chili/chowder cookoff and visits with Santa.

WASHINGTON

The Washington Kiwanis/City of Washington’s annual Christmas parade drew a large crowd, as well as a large number of participants. From the Grinch and his sidekick Cindy Lou Who cruising down West Main Street in a little green buggy to the Arts of the Pamlico’s impressive showing of favorite costumed characters, everyone was in the Christmas spirit on Dec. 7. Musical entertainment by Washington High School’s marching band, a shower of fake snow, inflatable ball giveaways, lots of candy and, of course, a drive-by from Santa Claus were some the sights that parade-goers got to experience on this sunny day in downtown Washington.
