“It took six to seven hundred men to build it in under a year”
All the houses on the island bounded by Albany Street and Osnaburgh Street were demolished in 1935 in order to make way for a magnificent new building of modern and economical luxury flats or simply… The White House. The White House was first opened in 1936 as a block of 758 apartments; furnished or unfurnished, with or without service. It took six to seven hundred men to build it in under a year and it cost approximately £350,000.
