Did you know…?
When it first opened in 1936, it had swimming pool, squash courts and delicatessen The White House became a very exclusive address in the city
The White House was one of the most well established and prestigious addresses in London, boasting an impressive entrance hall with a lounge, a restaurant, swimming pool, and squash courts on the ground floor. The basement was taken
up entirely with kitchens and stores. Other public areas included a Bar, Delicatessen, Newsagents, Hairdresser, Chemist, Valet and Dry Cleaners and the roof doubled as a garden. Hence, The White House Club was set up so that
these facilities could be used by non-residents as well. The early years saw The White House establish itself as one of the most exclusive addresses in London.
Unfortunately, September 1939 marked the outbreak of World War II, and suddenly London was not one of the best places in which to live.
