How about lions, tigers, and bears? Oh my! Honestly, the 2009 SEE Conference doesn’t have any of those things. But we do have talking parrots, surfboards, and plenty of cool resources. Can we get an “Oh my! Oh my!” ?

SEE

Some of our speakers include…

Allison Fine, the SEE Monfort Creativity Speaker, is a successful social entrepreneur and writer dedicated to helping grassroots organizations and activists successfully implement social change efforts. As a senior fellow on the Democracy Team at Demos: A Network for Change and Action in New York City, Allison researches and writes about the future of social change and civic engagement in this new digital age.

The SEE Promise. For more than 60 years, the State Education Editors (SEE, for short) has brought new trends and exciting presenters to the communications staff of the NEA state affiliates. SEE is dedicated to helping you do you job--better, wiser, and faster.

Her book, Momentum: Igniting Social Change in the Connected Age, is the winner of the Terry McAdams National Book Award. How can we move from serving soup until our elbows ache to solving chronic social ills like hunger or homelessness? How can we break the disastrous cycle of low expectations that leads to chronic social failures? The answers to these questions lie within Fine’s MOMENTUM: Igniting Social Change in the Connected Age, a fresh, zestful way of thinking about and organizing social change work. Today’s digital tools—including but not limited to e-mail, the Web, cell phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), even iPods—promote interactivity and connectedness. But as MOMENTUM shows, these new social media tools are important not for their wizardry but because they connect us to one another in inexpensive, accessible, and massively scalable ways. www.allisonfine.com Meet Allison @ SEE.
