ABOUT FIPRONIL

Description: Fipronil is a broad spectrum phenylpyrazole insecticide. It acts as a potent blocker of the GABA-regulated chloride channel. Insects resistant or tolerant to pyrethroid, cyclodiene, organophosphorus and/or carbamate insecticides are susceptible to fipronil. Fipronil and its degradates have a moderate soil sorption affinity and moderate to high persistence in terrestrial and aquatic environments. It is used primarily for control the boll weevil and plant bug on cotton, diamond-back moth on crucifers, Colorado potato beetle on potatoes by foliar application, stem borers, leaf miners, plant hoppers, leaf folders/rollers and weevils in rice.

SPECIFICATIONS: i) Appearance: White solid ii) Fipronil content: 92% (w/w) minimum. iii) Acidity (as H2SO 4): 0.50% (w/w) maximum TOXICITY

COMPATIBILITY Compatible with a wide range of insecticides, fungicides, herbicides and liquid fertilizers.

a) Mammalian toxicity: WHO II, Moderately Hazardous. b) Environmental toxicity: Fipronil is metabolized via reduction to the sulfide, oxidation to the sulfone, and hydrolysis to the amide. In the presence of sunlight, a photodegradate also forms via sulfoxide extrusion. The sulfide, sulfone and photodegradate are known to act at the GABA receptor site. It is highly toxic to honeybees, both by direct contact and ingestion, and also toxic to algae and some fishes like daphnia. It is moderately toxic to birds.

Shelf-life: Two years under normal storage conditions.
