Cotton Cotton is the most important fibre crop not only of India but of the entire world. Cotton and its by-products are used in the production of a huge range of products including bank notes, margarine, rubber and medical supplies . Cotton is a type of flowering plant that belongs to the mallow family. Cultivation of cotton started approximately 7000 years ago in Mexico and in India and Pakistan. People cultivate cotton because of the seed that represent valuable source of fibers and oil. Each year, around 25 million tons of cotton are produced in the 70 countries around the world.

Cotton BollWorm For quite a long time, farmers have cultivated cotton to produce cloth. This remarkable crop is of big importance as a cash crop for families and small holders. However, pests represent one of the biggest threats for farmers who are growing this powerful cash crop. Cotton is a ected by more than 60 insects of which about 10 insects are rather more important as far as the yield loss is concerned. Among the major insects damaging cotton bollworm is more prevalen Estimate that insect pests cause almost 20 to 40% of farmer’s yield losses.

The cotton bollworm, corn earworm, or Old World bollworm is a moth, the larvae of which feed on a wide range of plants, including many important cultivated crops.It is a major pest in cotton and one of the most polyphagous and cosmopolitan pest species.

Bollworm is a major insect pest of cotton which can cause losses to farmers. The young insect looks like a grub and is about the size of a match stick. It attacks and feeds on the inside of buds, owers and bolls. The grub has two lines on its back running from its head to its tail.
