COTTON Cotton is a plant that is cultivated for a multitude of purposes and products. Long cotton bers are used to make thread, yarn, textiles, clothes and other products, like towels, carpets, sheets, and more. Clothes made out of cotton are especially light and comfortable.

The short bers can be used in the paper industry. Cotton seeds have some important uses, too. Primarily, the seeds are used to produce cottonseed oil and margarine. The crushed remains of the seed can be used as a highprotein feed for cattle and other animals. After the cotton is picked, the stalks and leaves of the plants are plowed under to enrich the soil.

BOLLWORM The cotton bollworm, corn earworm, or Old World bollworm is a moth, the larvae of which feed on a wide range of plants, including many important cultivated crops.

It is a major pest in cotton and one of the most polyphagous and cosmopolitan pest species. It damages cotton plants by cutting off terminals

which causes multiple branching and delayed maturity. They also damage the cotton plant by eating into the squares, blooms, and bolls.

JASSIDS Jassid is a sucking pest occurring throughout the crop growing period on chilli in all the zones. The pest injects toxins into leaves while feeding which results in abnormal changes in leaves - marginal chlorosis and reddening.

Jassids are small, leaf-feeding insects ranging from green, through to yellow-green to brown. Conditions that favour leafhoppers, long intervals between harvests (lucerne) and spells of hot, dry weather, are poor growing conditions for the crop.

THRIPS Thrips are tiny insects about as fat as a sewing needle that dine on many plants worldwide. Also known as thysanoptera or thunder ies, thrips are sucking insects that can cause some damage to plants. Thrips damage includes streaks, silvery speckling, and small white patches, this happens because the thrips suck plant cells from many garden plants, owers, fruits, and shade trees. If you have a major infestation of thrips, your plants might be stunted with damaged owers and fruit. The damage that you notice might instead come from the virus that the thrips spread
