We provide an unparalleled arts and academic education in a creative, challenging, and nurturing environment to a diverse group of students who are passionate about the arts, preparing them to reach their highest potential.
In addition to offering a challenging college-preparatory academic program that produces high-achieving, motivated scholars, OCSA provides aspiring young artists with the opportunity to refine their skills and flourish in one of 16 arts conservatories. Each year, more than 200 concerts, recitals, staged performances, and exhibitions are presented at a variety of venues in Orange County and throughout the world, providing students with the unique experience of entertaining and inspiring thousands of audience members.
OCSA is a tuition-free, donation-dependent public charter school; no student is offered or denied enrollment based on financial capacity. The school’s rigorous academic education coupled with advanced arts training has impacted many students, molding generations of creative thinkers, leaders, artists, innovators, and entrepreneurs.
RANKED #1 BEST CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL IN CALIFORNIA Niche, 2020
Dear Friends and Families,
Welcome to the Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) 2020-2021 performance season! We are in the midst of truly unprecedented times. While our season may look different from those of years past, I am grateful that the arts can continue to connect us, inspire us, and uplift us as we look toward a brighter future.
Our dedicated and passionate students have demonstrated such ingenuity in adapting to a time of Zoom lessons and socially distant projects. Their resilience is a direct reflection of the spirit and heart of our amazing school. Despite the many changes that the pandemic has brought about, OCSA is proud to present a lineup of excellent presentations and collaborations by all of the school’s phenomenal arts conservatories that showcase the diverse talents our students have to offer.
I would like to express my gratitude to our Board of Trustees, Foundation Board of Directors, Foundation Advisory Board, Emeritus Board, President’s Circle, Encore, and PSO members. Their continued leadership and vision help to shape the lives of our students each and every day.
I must also take a moment to acknowledge the OCSA family, which includes YOU. I am very proud of the way our parents, students, alumni families, administrators, faculty/staff, and members of the local community have come together to meet the unique challenges of these times. The opportunities we provide for our young artists would not be possible without your extraordinary support, commitment, and enthusiasm. I would especially like to recognize our students, who — even when faced with great uncertainty — have remained positive and strong, serving as examples for us all. Their hard work is the driving force behind all we do and continually reminds us of why we do it.
Now, I invite everyone to join me in celebrating another impressive OCSA performance season. Please enjoy!
All good things,
Ralph S. Opacic, Ed.D. Founder and Executive Director Orange County School of the ArtsBalboa Bay Resort is Newport Beach’s only Forbes Four-Star, AAA Four-Diamond waterfront resort.

There is simply no better place to unwind or make a special family memory.
If you grew up in the 80’s there is little doubt that John Hughes movies were part of your life. Even as a California skate punk turned drama kid, I watched the movies hoping to someday be like Keith in Some Kind of Wonderful or Lloyd Dobbler in Cameron Crowe’s Say Anything. I hoped to be as quirky as Ducky or Ferris. I even dreamt of falling in love with a girl as cool as Andie, Watts or Allison. (I ended up doing way better. Hey Eve!) These were the coming of age movies of our formative years, the stories of rebellious youth, geeks, outcasts and first loves. They are films I still go back to and enjoy from time to time.
And the music! Anyone who says REM, The Cure, Oingo Boingo, The Smiths, Violent Femmes, or any of the other Alternative bands of the 80’s is bad can fight me!
When Mr. Walcutt gave me the ok to do this project, I was excited to share these movies with to-day’s high school kids and better yet, introduce them to some really good music… and Bon Jovi (yuck). My hope was they would see these characters in themselves and develop an appreciation for the stories and the songs. What blew me away was that most of the kids were already aware of John Hughes, the Brat Pack and British New Wave and American College Radio of the 80’s. The themes were timeless even if the clothes and the hair were not.
When it became apparent that we would need to create 4 films from what would have been 11 com-pletely unscripted live performances over the course of 2 weeks, my thought process as a director drastically changed. Gone were the in-person rehearsals, the warmup scenes with Sully, the holding hands in a circle like a mighty Sequoia grove. Instead, it was hello breakout rooms, socially dis-tanced filming, and editing. I felt I had to let go of the show much sooner than usual and the 4 casts of very talented young actors claimed their moments and came together on their own to tell the sto-ries they wanted to tell the way they wanted to tell them, without the watchful eye of an adult. Just the way John Hughes would have wanted them to.
My heart filled with joy the first time I watched each of these just as I hope yours will as the cast of Just Another Day pays homage to the late great John Hughes. Molly would be proud.
— Christopher Sullivan
A brain, a beauty, a jock, a rebel, and a theater kid?
Inspired by the John Hughes Movies of the 1980’s and set in the suburbs of Chicago, these four completely improvised short films take us back to the coming of age moments of youth…with really good music.
They only filmed it once, but their lives were changed forever. This goes to show you, it’s never Just Another Day.

The Acting Conservatory offers comprehensive acting, voice, and movement training to students interested in pursuing careers on stage or in film and television. A large majority of jobs within the acting industry come from one of two fields: oncamera work and Shakespeare. As a result, the Acting Conservatory places emphasis on these two areas of study, preparing students for entry into top universities/ conservatory programs and/ or the professional industry.
Throughout their time in the Acting Conservatory, students learn all aspects of the craft, are exposed to a variety of acting techniques and styles, and participate in performances both on campus and within the community. Additionally, the conservatory has cultivated a partnership with the professional company Shakespeare Orange County, which provides students with unique educational opportunities each year. Acting Conservatory students also participate in workshops and master classes with renowned guest artists and practitioners.
The conservatory faculty is comprised of working professionals, career educators, and specialists who are dedicated to educating and nurturing the next generation of world-class artists and scholars.
JOHN WALCUTT Director STEPHANIE DORIAN Assistant DirectorThe Acting Conservatory encourages the development of practical life skills beneficial to students’ futures. Over the past several decades, the Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) Foundation has created campaigns designed to support specific initiatives and institutional needs which enrich and enhance the student learning experience.
The school has now focused that common goal under the philanthropic umbrella of OCSA RISING, a campaign to support all the programs needed to inspire, impact, and invest in the next generation of artist-scholars. This campaign offers a menu of giving opportunities to meet donor interests and passions, and will continue to transform young lives for decades to come.

Each fall and spring, CSArts Academy offers a Saturday Series, where aspiring student artists throughout the community are invited to experience OCSA’s robust arts and academic curriculum in a fun, creative, and nurturing environment! These Saturday classes encourage students to develop important skills while providing hands-on, practical experience under the guidance of OCSA’s renowned educators and master guest artists. There are opportunities for beginning and advanced students in a variety of artistic fields, including creative writing, culinary arts, dance, digital media, instrumental music, theatre, visual arts, and more!
Over the summer, CSArts Academy offers Five-Week Arts Camps, One-Week Arts Intensives, Academic Enrichment Workshops, and Current/Incoming OCSA Student Workshops, which provide young artists with a chance to discover new talents, study innovative techniques, or hone their skills in a specific art form. There are both morning and afternoon sessions available, allowing students to enroll in two different courses for a full day of learning. Many Summer Classes culminate with a student showcase opportunity. Under the guidance of OCSA’s renowned educators and master guest artists, there are summer opportunities for students of all levels. Parents can explore the many options and piece together a summer experience tailored to their student’s interests and talents!
CSArts Academy offers extracurricular arts and academic training to student artists in the community, ages 8-15. Join us for fun and rewarding classes in the fall, spring, or summer!
