ONE-WEEK & TWO-WEEK ARTS INTENSIVES

Cinematography (Ages 11-15)

This one-week intensive allows students to explore the principles and tools of cinematography, including hands-on training with lighting equipment, DSLR cameras, and camera rigs. Students learn how to enhance the effectiveness of their visual storytelling through camera angles and movement, as well as through the manipulation of light, shadow, and color. Through this course, students learn about the basic role and tools of cinematographers and gaffers, expand their understanding of the collaborative nature of filmmaking through group projects, and make short commercials from concept to completion while incorporating a variety of cinematographic techniques. It is recommended that students have some experience with editing and storytelling. This class provides a great follow-up to the Film & Television Production Skills intensive.

Editing & Sound for Film (Ages 11-15)

This is an introductory editing course that familiarizes students with the Adobe Premiere Pro editing platform, nonlinear editing concepts, and digital media manipulation. Students become comfortable using editing terminology and learn to identify specific techniques. This course also dives into audio design with sound recording and how to properly mix audio for current and future projects. Participants use boom kits (mics and poles), audio recording devices (Tascams and Zooms), and XLR cables. Students learn how to edit and mix their audio files in Adobe Premiere Pro and gain a knowledge of filter effects such as Voice Enhancer, Reverb/EQ effects, etc.

Filmmakers’ Workshop: from Page to Screen (Ages 11-15)

This cross-disciplinary two-week course takes students on a filmmaker’s journey through beginning screenwriting, production, and film acting. Students receive hands-on experience, and guidance under industry professionals that take them through this creative process. Students write, produce, and act in short film projects. This class is a good follow-up to both Film & Production Skills and Cinematography classes.
