It is my pleasure to welcome you to QIPCO British Champions Day 2024. What an exciting day of racing we have to look forward to, along with a host of fantastic activities.
As always, our thanks go to QIPCO for its continued partnership with Champions Day. The support of Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah al Thani and his brothers is greatly valued by us and we wish them an enjoyable day.
Once again, today is the richest raceday staged in Britain this year, with over £4.1 million in prize money. We look forward to savouring many of the season’s best horses taking to the Ascot turf this afternoon across five Group races and the closing Balmoral Handicap, the richest mile handicap staged in Europe.
It is also the finale to this year’s QIPCO British Champions Series, which started all those months ago at Newmarket’s QIPCO Guineas Festival What a wonderful season we have enjoyed since then with the stars of our sport providing many memorable moments.
It was at Newmarket, at the start of May, where we inducted trainer Aidan O’Brien into the QIPCO British Champions Series Hall of Fame Today, a further three names will be added to the Roll of Honour namely, Dubai Millennium, who won the Public Vote in August, Goldikova and Jack Berry MBE. I am delighted that Jack joins us at Ascot today, together with the connections of Goldikova and Dubai Millennium.
There is a host of activity taking place away from the racing today. We will crown Godolphin as Champion Owners for a sixteenth time, Aidan O’Brien as Champion Trainer and Oisin Murphy as Champion Jockey for a fourth time. We have an enhanced Family Zone beyond the parade ring, with a jockey masterclass and the chance to meet Oisin Murphy,
jockey autograph signings and the opportunity to get up close to globetrotting equine millionaire, Side Glance, in the Meet The Racehorse area Other leading riders, such as Tom Marquand and Hollie Doyle, will feature in our new Jockey Gym, which demonstrates the fitness levels that jockeys need to compete
Please see pages 4-5 in the racecard for further details.
We also stage a world first, with five virtual QIPCO British Champions Day races being run by our partners, Owners Club, providing race fans with the thrill of having their own horse run today. Lastly, to bring the day to a close the QIPCO British Champions Day afterparty will feature iconic electronic music duo Hot Chip
Our thanks go to all the owners, trainers and stable staff for continuing to support the day. We wish them and you the best of luck today and thank you for being with us at Ascot. We hope that you have an enjoyable day.
On behalf of my brothers and fellow Directors of QIPCO, I welcome you all to Ascot for the 2016 running of QIPCO British Champions Day.
It is a great pleasure to welcome you to QIPCO British Champions Day, for what will be the 14th renewal of a race meeting which celebrates the very best of what our sport has to offer.
As title sponsors we are delighted at how QIPCO British Champions Day has evolved and grown and once again there are several reasons to look forward to this year’s running, the sixth since its launch in 2011
Incredibly, a year has already passed since Frankie Dettori, one of the undisputed icons of the Turf, said goodbye to British racing here at Ascot with his fairytale victory aboard King Of Steel in the QIPCO Champion Stakes in front of a crowd of 30,000.
That afternoon not only provided another treasured memory on an expanding list but was a pleasing reminder of how QIPCO British Champions Day can grow and inspire racing’s fanbase.
Today, heroes and heroines are celebrated. Among those to be crowned will be Champion Jockey, as Oisin Murphy wins the title for the fourth time. This brings us particular delight as he has been retained rider for our family’s Qatar Racing horses since 2016. We have huge respect and affection for Oisin, who has proved himself to be one of the world’s elite jockeys.
First and foremost, there is the quality and competitiveness of the racing This year there were a record number of horses entered (256) when entries closed in August, including the winners of 79 Group 1 races and 15 European Classics. Today’s runners will be competing for prize money totaling £4.2m, the richest raceday in Britain, and the action will be played out in front of what is expected to be a record crowd after two of the enclosures sold out weeks in advance.
The QIPCO British Champions Series Hall of Fame was launched on the 10th anniversary to recognise excellence and celebrate champions of the sport and we are delighted to welcome the latest inductees: Dubai Millennium, winner of a hotly contested three-week public vote to determine the most deserving ‘Turn of the Century’ Flat horse; Jack Berry MBE, the exemplary trainer who is a pioneering figure for the Injured Jockeys’ Fund, and Alain and Gerard Wertheimer’s wonderful late mare, Goldikova, winner of 14 Group 1 races and the epitome of class and determination.
As a business, QIPCO has invested in British Champions Series and British Champions Day to promote the sport and to promote the company and although both our racing and bloodstock operations are subsidiaries of QIPCO, it is as a family that we share in the thrill of ownership
My brothers and I have been fortunate enough to experience the highs that accompany the thrill of a winner on QIPCO British Champions Day – firstly, in conjunction with our father when Charm Spirit won the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes in 2014 and then last year when Simple Verse won the Fillies’ and Mares’
Although Qatar Racing has become an international owning and breeding operation, we are proud that it has made its headquarters in Britain, at Tweenhills in Gloucestershire. It is from there that our stallion Kameko has made a fabulous start to his new career
The brilliant QIPCO 2000 Guineas winner has already hit the top heights with his son New Century, carrying our colours, taking the Grade 1 Summer Stakes at Woodbine in Canada, and others such as the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes winner Wimbledon Hawkeye looking a Group 1 prospect
We truly miss Roaring Lion, who gave us such an unforgettable moment of joy when showing his class in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on this day eight years ago but did not have the chance to fulfil his potential at stud. We feel especially grateful that such an exciting young sire has appeared in his place so quickly and looks in position to have many runners of his own here over the coming years.
Simple Verse returns to Ascot this year and we are excited at the prospect of her seeing her run again Meanwhile, Charm Spirit returns to Britain, after a season in France, to stand at stud in 2017 alongside our other Qatar Bloodstock stallions at Tweenhills in Gloucestershire. It is a dream and ambition of ours to breed stock of the calibre good enough to win on QIPCO British Champions Day.
Once again QIPCO British Champions Day is Britain’s richest raceday, boasting six exceptional races, of which four are Group 1s, totalling £4.1 million. QIPCO has been involved in the meeting since its conception and we are delighted to be maintaining our valued partnership with Ascot.
A day of spectacular, high quality racing lies ahead and we wish all the participants and racegoers the best of luck, without your support QIPCO British Champions Day could not have progressed in the manner it has.
As well as the racing, today provides the perfect social setting with entertainment for visitors of every age, whether expert or novice. I wish all connections the very best of luck and hope that you all enjoy this magical afternoon.

Official BHA Rating: The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Horses will usually arrive in the Parade Ring around 15 to 20 minutes before the start time of the race. They will parade until roughly five minutes before the start of the race, at which point the bell will ring and the jockeys will mount.
What to look out for?
There is no exact science but here are some of the things to look out for if you’re trying to select a horse.
Does your horse look fit?
Clear muscle definition on its shoulders and over its hindquarters all suggest a horse that is fit and healthy. It should not carry too much ‘condition’ or extra weight and its walk should be athletic
What does its coat look like?
Look for a sleek, shiny coat which is a sign of good health.
Is your horse relaxed?
The big occasion can get to some horses If it is sweating before it has left the Parade Ring or jig-jogging around, it might be expending too much energy before it has even run in the race.

YORK, 17TH MAY
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 2) (1M 6F) £175,000 PRIZE MONEY
1st: GIAVELLETTO (IRE) 7/2
2nd: Vauban (FR) 7/2
3rd: Gregory 5/1
2024’s Long Distance division of the QIPCO British Champions Series kicked off with a thrilling Yorkshire Cup, featuring some of the highest quality stayers Britain and Ireland had to offer. The crown once again went to Marco Botti’s consistent stable star, Giavellotto, winner of the race twelve months ago and the first horse to defend the title since the high-class Stradivarius in 2019 Having travelled sweetly under Oisin Murphy the five-year-old son of Mastercraftsman made smooth progress to lead inside the final two furlongs, quickening well to claim a comfortable four-and-three-quarter-length victory from admirable dual purpose performer Vauban, who was back in second.
ROYAL ASCOT, 20TH JUNE
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 1) (2M 4F) £650,000 PRIZE MONEY
1st: KYPRIOS (IRE) 11/10F
2nd: Trawlerman (IRE) 7/1
3rd: Sweet William 9/1
One of the most remarkable stories to be realised throughout the QIPCO British Champions Series of 2024 was that of Coolmore’s Kyprios. A spectacular winner of one of the greatest Ascot Gold Cup’s in living memory (2022), the now six-year-old's career was derailed by a severe tendon injury and connections believed that he would never race again Fast forward twenty months from his stunning victory in the Prix Du Cadran the 11/10 favourite Kyprios rolled back the years at a sunny Royal Ascot, breezing into the race under Ryan Moore and kicking clear in the final two furlongs to see off his old adversary, Trawlerman, by a length Having been dropped out throughout the race, the Normandie Stud owned Sweet William stayed on best of the rest to be third yet was simply no match for the comprehensive winner
GOODWOOD, 30TH JULY
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 1) (2M) £500,000 PRIZE MONEY
1st: KYPRIOS (IRE) 8/13F
2nd: Sweet William (IRE) 11/2
3rd: Gregory 3/1
The undisputed king of the stayers in the QIPCO British Champions Series of 2024 is Kyprios and Aidan O’Brien’s son of Galileo mesmerised crowds once more in the Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup in July Ryan Moore positioned the now six-time Group 1 winner close to the pace throughout the contest, keen to exploit any weaknesses present within the armoury of his rivals Whilst Kyprios looked to struggle to hold his position around the many sharp right-handed bends at the Sussex track, his class ultimately told and as the field turned into the straight Ryan Moore’s charge made swift progress to hit the front. The consistent yet enigmatic Sweet William battled bravely and briefly looked a threat to Coolmore’s classy stayer, before Kyprios reproduced the enchanting turn of foot that has made him a household name over the past three seasons running out an impressive four-length winner to regain the Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup.
YORK, 23RD AUGUST
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 2) (2M 1/2F) £250,000 PRIZE MONEY
1st: VAUBAN (FR) 11/2
2nd: Al Nayyir 33/1
3rd: Gregory 5/2
With Kyprios absent from the fourth race in the QIPCO British Champions Series stayers division, the domestic British contingent were presented with a golden opportunity to make their mark. This was not to prove the case however, with yet another major prize heading to the Emerald Isle Willie Mullins Vauban had previously established himself as a top dual-purpose performer without troubling the scorers in the QIPCO British Champions Series but was able to break his duck in stylish fashion in the Weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup under a confident William Buick. Turning for home, all nine runners appeared to be travelling comfortably but it was Vauban to whom the eye was most drawn. The striking son of Galiway was able to make significant headway between the third and second last furlong, drawing alongside longtime pacesetter’s before stretching clear within a matter of strides Tom Clover’s newest recruit, Al Nayyir rallied strongly for pressure under the persistent Luke Morris drive but was unable to overhaul Rich Ricci’s star
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 2) (2M 2F) £140,000 PRIZE MONEY
1st: SWEET WILLIAM (IRE) 7/4F
2nd: Trueshan (FR) 100/30
3rd: Point Lonsdale (IRE) 5/1
The enigmatic Sweet William finally enjoyed his day in the QIPCO British Champions Series sun at Doncaster in September, clearing away to take the Betfred Howard Wright Doncaster Cup in tremendous style. Philippa Cooper’s five-year-old has been a mainstay throughout the staying series of 2024, finishing placed on three occasions behind Coolmore’s Kyprios. Sweet William was dropped out by Rab Havlin through the early stages of the contest whilst former winner Trueshan and stablemate Gregory set a sedate pace towards the front end of the six-strong field Upon turning into the famous Doncaster home-straight, the vast majority of the field remained on the bridle and in with a shouting chance It rapidly became apparent however, that none were travelling more sweetly than the veteran Rab Havlin and Sweet William the pair making a swooping move around the field in a matter of seconds around three furlongs from home to join and subsequently head the longtime pacesetters.
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 1) (1M 6F) £700,000
1st: JAN BRUEGHEL (IRE) 11/4JF
2nd: Illinois (IRE) 11/4JF
3rd: Deira Mile (IRE) 28/1
The Betfred St Leger trophy was once again to be on way across the Irish Sea as Aidan O'Brien’s QIPCO British Champions Series dominance continued with the lightly raced Jan Brueghel at Doncaster The Ballydoyle trio of Grosvenor Square, Illinois and Jan Brueghel occupied the top three spaces in the market prior to the off with nothing to split the latter pair for favouritism. Grosvenor Square raced towards the head of affairs from the off, ensuring a stop-start pace to suit Ballydoyle’s other runners. The high-class septet all travelled comfortably but the eye was soon drawn to Coolmore’s co-favourites approaching three furlongs from home. Having raced in second place, Illinois kicked clear under Wayne Lordan as Grosvenor Square weakened. The British challenge waned to leave the unexposed Jan Brueghel in pursuit of his hardier stablemate The pair locked in combat as the furlong marker approached and gradually, Sean Levey began to galvanize Jan Brueghel, eventually asserting his dominance to plunder 2024’s final Classic by a neck
The £450,000 QIPCO British Champions Long Distance Cup was originally known as the Jockey Club Cup and run at Newmarket. First run 150 years ago, it has been staged over a variety of distances, being run over its present distance of two miles since 1963.
Switched to Ascot in 2011, for the first Champions Day, Irish-trained horses found the Berkshire air to their liking and won four successive renewals via Fame And Glory, Rite Of Passage, Royal Diamond and Forgotten Rules Their stranglehold has since been loosened but Order Of St George (2017) and Kew Gardens (2019) have also proved too strong for the home team
Flying Officer hit back for Britain in 2015, giving Frankie Dettori a belated first Champions Day winner Sheikhzayedroad (2016), superstar stayer Stradivarius (2018) and last year's winner Trawlerman followed his example.
Trueshan turned the 2020 renewal into a procession under Hollie Doyle, who in the process became the first female jockey to win a race on Champions Day. The combination struck again in 2021 and 2022, to the delight of favourite backers
Trawlerman returns today to try and defend his crown but faces tough opposition in the form of star stayer and last year's second, Kyprios

Info: Aidan O’Brien has surprisingly drawn a blank on Champions Day for the past four years, but star stayer Kyprios will be a short price to end his barren run. The six-year-old has re-cemented his status as the outstanding horse in the long-distance category this season, being unbeaten in six starts His victories have included second triumphs in the Gold Cup, Goodwood Cup, Irish St Leger and Prix du Cadran He has become O’Brien’s most prolific Group 1 winner, chalking up eight victories at the highest level Kyprios has a score to settle in this race, as the tenacious Trawlerman beat him by a neck 12 months ago. The pair had another good tussle in the Gold Cup, in June, with Kyprios turning the tables

Info: The globetrotting Al Nayyir has had six different trainers and has raced all over the world. They say a change is as good as a rest and the various switches have certainly done the gelding no harm Indeed, you could argue that he ran as well as he has ever done switched to Tom Clover on his past two starts He won the Jockey Club Rose Bowl Stakes at Newmarket by eight lengths on his latest start, having previously been beaten a short head by Vauban in the Lonsdale Cup at York That York run was Al Nayyir’s first in Britain since 2020, and it was also his first for Clover, who is enjoying his best year since first taking out a training licence in 2016

Info: Trawlerman was tremendously game when beating Kyprios in the Long Distance Cup last year and seems unlikely to surrender his crown without a fight He traded at 999-1 in-running 12 months ago, but his rally enabled him to get back up and win by a neck In the process, Trawlerman was improving on his third place in the 2022 edition He had another ding-dong battle with Kyprios in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot in June, losing out by a length. Before that, Trawlerman had been a fine third in the Dubai Gold Cup at Meydan He's shown his form on a range of ground, with his fortunes improving since being fitted with a hood for the first time more than two years ago.
We are really looking forward to running him, hopefully we can get him there A1 and fingers crossed we can get close to Kyprios. “ “

BETTING FORECAST (CORRECT AS OF 1PM 18/10/24):
8-11 Kyprios (IRE), 4-1 Trawlerman (IRE), 7-1 Sweet William (IRE), Al Nayyir (GB), 25-1 Burdett Road (GB), 33-1 The Euphrates (GB), Belloccio (FR), 66-1 Alsakib (GB), Caius Chorister (FR)
One of the great stayers, Kyprios hasn’t looked back since being defeated by TRAWLERMAN in this 12 months ago. Now an eight-time Group 1 winner following his second success in the Prix du Cadran a fortnight ago, the top-class son of Galileo attempts to round off a hitherto perfect season in style. It’s been a long campaign, though, and Trawlerman could exploit any chinks in his armour The Gosdens’ six-year-old has been kept fresh since chasing home Aidan O’Brien’s star in the Gold Cup here in June, but he has often come alive at this time of year and it would come as no surprise to see him mount a bold title defence. Al Nayyir impressed in Listed company at Newmarket recently and is no forlorn hope, while Doncaster Cup hero Sweet William looks destined for a minor role.

The QIPCO British Champions Series Hall of Fame is the official Hall of Fame for British Flat racing, recognising the exceptional horses and people who have lit up the sport from 1970 onwards.
Established in 2021, the Hall of Fame has seen 24 inductions to date. Four key figures embedded in the very fabric of British racing comprise the Class of 2024, celebrated here at Ascot today.
Aidan O’Brien has enjoyed spectacular success for more than 30 years and there is no sign of his relish for smashing ceilings, pushing boundaries, or raising bars to unimaginable heights diminishing. He chalked up his 4,000th winner a year ago, just the third Irish trainer to achieve this staggering figure. He became the youngest person in Ireland to be named Champion Trainer, a feat he achieved at just 26, and has astonishingly been crowned Ireland’s Champion Trainer every year since 1999. He has also been Champion Trainer in Britain seven times, including as recently as this year.
4,000+ CAREER WINNERS
Horses have long enchanted Sheikh Mohammed, but none have captured his heart quite like Dubai Millennium. Like Hall of Famers before him, Dubai Millennium was blessed with powers that set him apart. In addition to his fine physique, high cruising speed and potent turn of foot, he was the rarest of animals: a champion on both turf and dirt. He was unbeatable at up to a mile and a quarter and would have surely gone on to scale even greater heights had injury not cut short his career

Goldikova was a record-breaking mare who sprinkled her magic all over the world. With the benefit of hindsight, the Wertheimer brothers, Alain and Gérard, who bred and owned Goldikova, might easily have left off the final five letters of her name. She was a rare, precious find whose exploits included winning a European record of 14 Group 1 races between 2008 and 2011. Trained throughout her career by Freddy Head, in Chantilly, France, she will always be remembered for winning the Breeders’ Cup Mile three years in succession – the only horse to win the same race three times at America’s biggest meeting – but she also dazzled in her native country, France, as well as England.

Jack Berry MBE has been racing’s greatest fundraiser. Just the third person to be recognised within the Special Contributor category, he follows closely in the footsteps of Queen Eliabeth II and Prince Khalid bin Abdullah, recognised for his tireless dedication to jockey welfare within the sport. The journeyman jump-jockeyturned-top-trainer-turned-charitychampion was instrumental in the Injured Jockeys’ Fund (IJF) being founded 60 years ago and it was his vision that led to Oaksey House, in Lambourn, Berkshire, and Jack Berry House, in Malton, Yorkshire, being established in 2009 and 2015 respectively. Both are world-class rehabilitation centres for jockeys, with others following since.
1,500+ WINS AS A TRAINER
60 YEARS SUPPORTING INJURED JOCKEYS
47 WINS AS A JOCKEY 1x JACK BERRY HOUSE
Having claimed the crown in 2019, 2020 and 2021, Oisin Murphy is now a four- d fou time Champion Jockey after careering to e the 2024 title by an impressive margin. e 4 e ma
While on the face of things his latest title may seem to have been a straightforward matter, a strike-rate of comfortably more than one-in-five victories and a margin of success so clear-cut that bookmakers pulled down the shutters on championship betting just a couple of months into the campaign has been achieved through a balanced mix of pure talent and bloody-minded determination.
“Nobody can have any idea what it’s like being in this cauldron unless they’ve actually been there themselves,” said David Redvers, racing manager to Murphy’s boss Sheikh Fahad of Qatar Racing, after the hat-trick had been landed three years ago.
He continued: “I spoke to Kevin Darley the other day and he said when he sat down at the end of his championship-winning season, he literally lost two days of his life he was so exhausted. He couldn’t even remember what happened in that time.”
That 2021 Champion Jockey title race went down to the wire with rival William Buick - who went on to win his first championship in 2022
before doubling up the following season - still in with a mathematical chance on QIPCO British Champions Day; just two winners separated them at the close as they ended the campaign on 153 and 151.
It has been easier this time around. By the numbers at any rate.
Yes, the QIPCO Guineas Festival at Newmarket saw Buick start his own hat-trick bid in the best possible way as Notable Speech provided the jockey with his first success in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas and he went on to partner six winners in the space of four days in mid-May, but Murphy has made most of the running in the title race since those very early stages and those soughtafter big race wins have inevitably flowed along with the day-to-day victories.
The 28-year-old soon raced into the lead with a stunning start to the season, riding trebles at Lingfield and Windsor along with a four-timer at Newcastle to put daylight between himself and the chasing pack.
There were four winners at Royal Ascot in June with Asfoora collecting the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes for Australian trainer Henry Dwyer with a performance that reverberated on the other side of the world - but it was far from the only notable victory for Murphy.
Saturday saw the jockey double his top-tier tally for the meeting when he produced Khaadem with a perfectly timed run to retain his crown in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes
Running Lion denied stablemate Laurel to land the Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes and Murphy was delighted with that result as ‘things didn’t go right at Newmarket and Epsom’ but the filly’s connections had still instilled Murphy with the confidence to go out ‘and do his own thing’ The victory resonated for more than that reason alone as Running Lion, owned and bred by David Howden, is by Roaring Lion, a Qatar Racingowned colt who Murphy maintains ‘put him on the map’.
That day concluded on a high with Murphy winning the Royal Hunt Cup aboard Wild Tiger, owned by Godolphin and trained by Saeed bin Suroor, a combination who had provided Murphy with his very first success at the Royal meeting when Benbatl won the Hampton Court Stakes in 2017.
Murphy became the first jockey to bring up a seasonal century of winners, achieving the feat for the sixth time in his career on August 11th with the third of four winners on a card at Newmarket, ending the day 36 clear of Rossa Ryan, his closest pursuer.
The jockey was quick to pay tribute to those who have supported him saying: “I’ve had a huge amount of support. I’m aware I’ve taken more rides than any other jockey in Britain, and my agent (Gavin Horne) has done a great job choosing the right ones
“I’ve relied on a lot of good trainers, if I start listing them all there’s going to be too many, but a special thanks must go to Sheikh Fahad and Andrew Balding. Both of them are very accommodating and want me to get the best results, particularly on the big days. I’m very grateful to them.”
Appropriately that landmark success came aboard a horse trained by Balding, to whom he was apprenticed, who has again provided the jockey with the bulk of his winners but it is far from being a one-man show

ROYAL ASCOT, 18TH JUNE

1st: ASFOORA (AUS) 5/1
2nd: Regional 6/1
3rd: Big Evs (IRE) 11/4F
The opening race of the 2024 QIPCO British Champions Series Sprint division was plundered by Australia for the second time in three years, with trainer Henry Doyle’s maiden Royal Ascot runner Asfoora expertly guided to victory by Oisin Murphy A prominent position was integral to a winning chance here, with the first three home all leading their respective groups throughout the contest Ed Bethell’s 2023 Sprint Cup winner Regional set the pace on the near side before finding himself outpaced by the ready winner inside the final two furlongs Favourite Big Evs was the best of these as a juvenile and led the far side group throughout the race He also failed to live with the raw pace of the Australian raider over the Ascot five furlongs however, having to settle for third place beaten one-and-a-quarter lengths at 11/4f.
ROYAL ASCOT, 21ST

1st: INISHERIN 9/4F
2nd: Lake Forest 12/1
3rd: Jasour 4/1
Having lowered the colours of the previously unbeaten Vandeek on his last start, Kevin Ryan’s Inisherin travelled much the best to take 2024’s running of the Commonwealth Cup at an overcast Royal Ascot. Pacesetters Orne and Pocklington set an honest pace from the off, with early exertions starting to tell as the field reached the final two furlongs As the pace quickened, the enthusiastic Clive Cox trained Jasour began his challenge towards the outside of the 14-runner field, looking a threat to the winner briefly before weakening into third in the final half furlong under Jim Crowley Inisherin was not for stopping though and as soon as Tom Eaves began to ask his mount for an effort, the son of Shamardal lengthened away and put his rivals to bed in a matter of strides. William Haggas Lake Forest plugged on best of the rest to take second place
ROYAL ASCOT, 22ND JUNE

1st: KHAADEM (IRE) 14/1
2nd: Swingalong (IRE) 14/1
3rd: Mill Stream (IRE) 9/2
14/1 shot Khaadem swooped late under Oisin Murphy to claim successive victories in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes on day five at Royal Ascot, the first horse to achieve that feat since Right Boy in 1959 Favourite Believing looked to be going best for much of the contest, sweeping through to join long-time leader Swingalong two furlongs from home Having finished Fourth in the King Charles III Stakes just four days prior to this, she began to look weary, with pacesetter Swingalong holding what appeared to be a winning hand. That was not to be however, unleashed inside the final furlong by an ever-patient Murphy, Khaadem showed a searing turn of foot blasting through rivals to claim a poignant half-a-length success.
NEWMARKET JULY COURSE, 13TH JULY
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 1) (6F) £600,000 PRIZE MONEY
1st: MILL STREAM (IRE) 11/1
2nd: Swingalong (IRE) 22/1
3rd: Vandeek 4/1
Always one of the most fascinating races in the annual QIPCO British Champions Series calendar, the July Cup at Newmarket is the first meeting point of both three-year-old and older horses within the sprint division In tandem with the evergreen Art Power, Karl Burke’s consistent Showalong raced at the head of affairs, looking the most likely winner inside the final two furlongs as Vandeek, who had looked to be coming with a run, failed to engage the top gear he showed so often as a juvenile, finishing a well beaten third Placed at Group 1 level on three occasions previously, this looked to be the day the perennial bridesmaid would emerge the victor That was until 11/1 shot Mill Stream emerged from the pack towards the far side of the July Course, ultimately getting the better of his old foe Swingalong in a titanic battle to the line thanks to the urgings of William Buick.
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 1) (5F) £500,000 PRIZE MONEY
1st: BRADSELL 3/1
2nd: Believing (IRE) 7/1
3rd: Starlust 12/1
Prior to the Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes the limelight fell firmly upon Big Evs and Australian raider Asfoora, with the pair locked in a summer-long duel that transcended the sprinting division One of the QIPCO British Champions Series’ most prestigious stages, the Knavesmire was to play host to an unforeseen final chapter to the captivating Anglo-Australian story. Big Evs and Asfoora both travelled comfortably towards the nearside and the stage appeared set for a fascinating final battle between the pair, however Big Evs faded into a disappointing eighth place Having tracked the searing pace of Ponntos through the early stages, Bradsell was well positioned on the far side in the expert hands of Hollie Doyle and kicked for home at the furlong marker, putting daylight between himself and the rest of the twelve-strong field This move was to prove decisive, with Asfoora unable to replicate her previous British efforts and the late surge from George Boughey’s Believing proving to be too little, too late
HAYDOCK PARK, 7TH SEPTEMBER
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 1) (6F) £400,000 PRIZE MONEY
1st: MONTASSIB 10/1
2nd: Kind Of Blue 14/1
3rd: Unequal Love 12/1
An upset was on the cards as the QIPCO British Champions Series rolled into Haydock, as 25/1 outsider Montassib ground out an unlikely victory in the Betfair Sprint Cup. The eventual winner settled comfortably in-behind runners as the Karl Burke duo Swingalong and Elite Status set a strong gallop alongside Givemethebeatboys Having sat prominently throughout the six furlong contest, James Fanshawe’s Kind of Blue looked set to plunder the £235,000 first prize, quickening clear to lead in impressive fashion over a furlong from home It was to be a return to the QIPCO British Champions Series for William Haggas however, as Montassib was able to weave his way past beaten rivals, battling dourly in the closing stages under Fallon to head Danny Muscutt and Kind Of Blue in the shadow of the winning post, recording a maiden success at the highest level by a head.
The QIPCO British Champions Sprint was established in 1946 and originally called the Diadem Stakes. It’s always been run at Ascot and was upgraded to a Group 1 in 2015. It invariably attracts a big field – a maximum of 20 can run - and is usually over in 75 seconds. Little wonder then that the start can be as vital as the finish.
Nevertheless, the cream has often risen to the top with Deacon Blues (2011), Slade Power (2013), Gordon Lord Byron (joint-top, 2014), Muhaarar (2015) and Kinross (2022) all being highest-rated runners to triumph on Champions Day.
Busy campaigns have been no barrier to success in the £500,000 dash Glen Shiel (2020) was having his eleventh run of the year when successful, while Maarek (2015) was having his tenth and had been a runnerup just six days before Meanwhile, Gordon Lord Byron (2014) and Art Power (2023) were both having their ninth race of the year, the former having started his campaign in Australia.
Three of the first four winners on Champions Day were Irish-trained but the past nine renewals have been dominated by British contenders The best of them was the outstanding Muhaarar, who had won the Commonwealth Cup, July Cup and Prix Maurice de Gheest earlier in the summer

Info: This chestnut gelding spent much of his early career racing over 7f and a mile, but it’s since switching to sprinting in the past year or so that he’s began to scale the heights. He’s gone from strength to strength this season, swooping from off the pace to win at Doncaster, Newcastle and Haydock He mastered Kinross on his penultimate start and put up a career-best when landing the Sprint Cup last month, when he had several of the rivals he will face today behind. That first Group 1 triumph means he has now won eight of his 19 races. He can dwell at the start but invariably finishes off strongly He’s won on all types of ground but seems at his best with some give underfoot.
Sex: Gelding Colour: Bay Age: 7
Trainer: Ralph Beckett
Sire-Dam: Kingman – Ceilidh House
Owner: Marc Chan
Breeder: Lawn Stud
Info: This popular veteran was a luckless ninth in this race in 2021 before winning in emphatic fashion 12 months later. He looked sure to retain his crown last year when hitting the front inside the final furlong, only for Art Power to overhaul him in the shadows of the post. This season, he has shown himself to be as good as ever He beat all bar Ramatuelle in the Prix de la Foret 13 days ago, having previously been a commanding winner of the Park Stakes at Doncaster That victory at Doncaster could be seen as a good omen, as he scooped it before taking this prize two years ago. He seems equally effective over six and seven furlongs and has run well on all types of ground.
Sex: Colt Colour: Bay Age: 3

Owner: Wathnan Racing
Sire-Dam: Blue Point (IRE) – Blue Sister
Breeder: Mr & Mrs M Morris, Mr & Mrs P Hopper
Info: If ever there was a horse bred to excel in big sprints at Ascot, then surely it is Kind Of Blue. His sire, Blue Point, won twice at Royal Ascot in the space of four days in 2019, while two of his uncles, Deacon Blues and The Tin Man, were winners of this race for James Fanshawe. Kind Of Blue was unraced as a two-year-old but has been making up for lost time this campaign, winning his first two starts before showing smart form in pattern company He was fourth in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot in June and showed he was still on the up when touched off by Montassib in the Sprint Cup last time He has raced exclusively on a sound surface.
Now I seem to have found the right trip he has upped his game a bit. You could say that he is still relatively unexposed over six furlongs, so he has surprised me but in the right way. “ “

KINROSS seeks redemption after finishing second as favourite in the Prix de la Foret, having also occupied the runner-up spot 12 months earlier. Ralph Beckett’s gelding didn’t enjoy as kind a passage as the winner and could perhaps be marked up. Also a previous winner of this, he looks certain to have the race run to suit and is fancied to repay his supporters. There will be challenges aplenty, perhaps none more so than from Montassib, who took his form to a new level when winning the Sprint Cup at Haydock. French challenger Beauvatier finished a place behind the selection on Arc day and may not be far away, while others to note include Mill Stream and last year’s victor Art Power, who arrives in similar form this time around.
QIPCO HOLDING has generously sponsored the race. A silver salver will be presented to the winning owner, with a replica for the winning trainer and jockey In addition, a memento will be presented to the stable lad or lass of the winning horse A £250 cash prize will be presented to the stable lad or lass responsible for the best turned out horse
After more plot-twists than a soap opera, the battle for Champion Apprentice Flat Jockey will come to an end today. And in common with so much of the season, we reach the final day of the campaign not knowing for sure who will be on top when the dust settles!
Sean Dylan Bowen, who hurtled into contention when riding four winners in a row at the end of late August – bids to secure the title by seeing off the persistent challenges of Joe Leavy, Jack Doughty and Mark Winn, and the recent surge of Kaiya Fraser
But regardless who ultimately heads the standings, each of the above quintet could legitimately look back and think that with just a little more luck, it might have been them taking the trophy home.
Bowen, who like so many of his Irish colleagues cut his riding teeth in pony racing, only made the move to ride in Britain in May this year as he struggled for opportunities at home without the necessary depth of the racing programme.
From Clonmel, Bowen was born steeped in racing as the nephew of Minella Hotel’s famous proprietor John Nallen, breeder of the Gold Cup and Grand National winners in 2021 – his mum Eliz is manager of the hotel.
A substantial chunk of this season’s success has come from a partnership with Newmarket trainer James Owen, with whom Bowen is based. More than half of his rides for the stable have hit the first four and 25% have won
The link-up with Owen came about after he scored aboard the Deva Racing-owned Destinado at
Doncaster’s Lincoln meeting, having first paired up with horses in the same colours when riding out for Ian Williams after finishing school
One of Bowen’s most notable highlights for the season came when bagging a big fillies’ handicap at Ascot on the Grant Tuer-trained Bellarchi, but his biggest success was only ultimately confirmed after the intervention of the British Horseracing Authority when Manxman was promoted to first place in the Betfred Cesarewitch after the rider of the winner transgressed the whip rules.
To not have been able to celebrate such a massive success on the day will surely have been a source of frustration, but the history books will show him as the winner and there will surely be many more keynote successes to come in the years ahead
Joe Leavy has also ended the season with a flurry of victories, a 17-day totting-up suspension in midsummer having caused his campaign to sadly stutter at a vital point.
“All I can do is give it everything I’ve got and, with my hand on my heart, I can see I’ve done that,” said the 19-year-old after a recent winner “If you’d told me at the start of the season, I’d even be with a chance of being champion apprentice, I’d have laughed at you, so I’ve got to be happy with how the season has gone. ”
Leavy’s form burst into life in August, riding 15 winners around the country during that month. His boss Richard Hannon knows a thing or two about steering apprentices to winning titles having helped to put the likes of Ryan Moore and Tom Marquand on their way to the top table.
In common with both of those two named above, Leavy has a refreshingly balanced perspective, and he’ll know that his future in the sport is bright as he continues to learn his trade.
Jack Doughty is the youngest of those who have fought out this year’s championship. His challenge was another to be derailed by a midsummer suspension, as he was sidelined serving 14 days of a 20-day ban for whip offences.
It’s less than a year since the Worcestershire-born 17-year-old rode his first winner, but his career path has a vaguely familiar feel - Marquand also began his career riding for Doughty’s boss Tony Carroll, before moving on to join Richard Hannon The following year, building upon that hugely-promising first season in the saddle, Marquand was crowned champion apprentice. Doughty is unequivocal about his ambitions to reach the same heights. Next year he’ll have another chance to get there.
Mark Winn has flown the flag for the northern-based apprentice riders this season and with the backing of David O’Meara, he’ll continue to prove a popular choice in the saddle next season as he moves out of the apprentice division
His weight allowance and apprentice status were lost when he secured a memorable treble at Redcar in August, but it was still a memorable evening as he booted home winners for his boss, Peter Niven and Paul Midgley, who has been a keen supporter this season
Also finishing the season with a satisfying landmark treble in the bag was Kaiya Fraser, the London-born and Newmarket-based apprentice who took three winners home from his first-ever visit to Ayr at the start of this month to guarantee that he finishes the season on a high.
Fraser, whose introduction to racing came through a one-month voluntary placement at the Ebony Horse Club before he headed to the British Racing School, may be quietly spoken but he possesses an obvious determination to get to the top.
The wider spread of winners among some incredibly talented top apprentice jockeys has given this year’s title an unusually open nature. The quintet at the head of the standings have reached this point by a wide range of different routes – some were born into the sport, others never knew it existed until racing came and tapped on their shoulders. But all have the potential to continue making headlines in horse racing for years to come.

NEWMARKET ROWLEY MILE, 5TH MAY

1st: ELMALKA (GB) 28/1
2nd: Porta Fortuna (IRE) 11/1
3rd: Ramatuelle (USA) 9/2
In what was a dramatic contest on the Rowley Mile, Roger Varian sprung a surprise in claiming the first filly's classic of the year in the 1000 Guineas with 28/1 shot Elmalka Having jumped from the gates with great speed and enthusiasm, Christopher Head’s Ramatuelle showed blistering cruising speed for Aurelien Lemaitre, looking far and away the most likely to hit the line in front for much of the contest. That was until the French filly began to empty inside the final furlong and Elmalka, galvanised by Silvestre De Sousa, lowered her head in perfect time to come home in front of her rivals Donnacha O’ Brien’s Porta Fortuna for whom the best was yet to come ran on well for second, giving the winner most to think about and back in third was the long-time leader, Ramatuelle.
EPSOM DOWNS, 31ST MAY

1st: EZELIYA (FR) 13/2
2nd: Dance Sequence 7/1
3rd: War Chimes (FR) 50/1
The Aga Khan’s impeccably bred filly, Ezeliya confirmed the potential of her impressive seasonal debut by giving trainer Dermot Weld a second winner of the Betfred Oaks, 43 years on from Blue Wind in 1981 Karl Burke’s Making Dreams set a strong pace from the off and opened up by five lengths at one point as the field headed down the back straight As the 40/1 outsider began to weaken approaching the infamous Tattenham Corner however, Chris Hayes began to make his move aboard Ezeliya. Having made significant headway three furlongs from home, Dermot Weld’s charge began to assert, drawing clear inside the final furlong in stunning fashion to register a dominant three length victory from nearest pursuer, Dance Sequence.
ROYAL ASCOT, 21ST JUNE

1st: PORTA FORTUNA (IRE) 7/2
2nd: Opera Singer (USA) 100/30
3rd: Ramatuelle (USA) 15/8F
After a narrow defeat in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas at the hands of the reopposing Elmalka, Porta Fortuna went one better to land the Coronation Stakes on the fourth day of Royal Ascot. Having pressed the leaders, Coolmore’s Opera Singer looked to hold all aces turning into the straight but Donnacha O’Brien’s daughter of Caravaggio was not to be denied, drawing alongside and forging past the runner up in gritty fashion to win by a length. Ramatuelle equalled her third placed effort in the 1000 Guineas, failing to see out the mile convincingly once again having looked to be in contention for much of the race. 1000 Guineas heroine Elmalka was up against it from a long way out, enduring a wide path throughout the duration of the mile-long contest.
NEWMARKET JULY COURSE, 12TH JULY

3rd: Rogue Millennium (IRE) 9/1 / A Lilac Rolla (IRE) 9/2 (Dead Heat)
The popular Porta Fortuna continued her excellent vein of form when running out a convincing winner of the Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes on the July Course at Newmarket. The American owned filly was sent off a warm order at 11/10 to take the Group 1 contest and duly obliged, travelling with zest throughout under Ryan Moore and putting the race to bed in a matter of strides to claim victory by a widening threeand-three-quarter-lengths at the line Roger Varian’s Jabaara registered an improved performance to finish second from both Rogue Millennium and A Lilac Rolla who kept the judge on his toes, dead heating back in third.
GOODWOOD, 1ST AUGUST

1st: OPERA SINGER (USA) 9/4
2nd: See The Fire 16/1
3rd: Sparkling Plenty (FR) 13/2
Thursday of Glorious Goodwood saw a different member of the O’Brien family enjoy QIPCO British Champions Series Fillies & Mares division success as Opera Singer hit the right note in the Qatar Nassau Stakes Aidan O’Brien’s filly was ridden positively by Moore throughout, establishing an advantage from the gates and controlling the pace from the front. As the pace began to lift, both Emily Upjohn and French 1000 Guineas heroine Sparkling Plenty were caught in difficult positions, allowing the well-bred daughter of Justify to set sail for home and open a significant advantage Whilst Oisin Murphy and Christian Demuro looked to run Opera Singer down aboard See The Fire and the aforementioned Sparkling Plenty, Michael Tabor’s prize asset was not in the mood to relent, holding off the fast-finishing challengers in gutsy and determined fashion to register a second career victory at the highest level
YORK, 22ND AUGUST
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 1) (1M 4F) £525,000 PRIZE MONEY
1st: CONTENT (IRE) 3/1F
2nd: You Got To Me 9/2
3rd: Emily Upjohn 7/2
Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore enjoyed more QIPCO British Champions Series success in the Pertemps Network Yorkshire Oaks with the aptly named Content. One would have been forgiven for discounting the chance of Ballydoyle’s first string as Emily Upjohn travelled with renewed zest into the home straight Having seemingly used significant energy reserves throughout the journey, Ryan Moore began to urge Content forwards and instantly, she began to respond, battling hardily to make significant progress on the far-side of the track. Ralph Beckett’s Irish Oaks winner You Got To Me also threw down her challenge and entering the final furlong all three high-class fillies were side by side, battling for QIPCO British Champions Series glory. As Emily Upjohn began to fade, Content bowed her head in determination and edged to the front in the shadow of the winning post, denying runner-up, You Got To Me by three-quarters-of-a-length.
Like the Sprint, the QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes was established in 1946. It’s been formerly known as the Princess Royal Stakes, then Pride Stakes, and has alternated between Ascot and Newmarket.
The mile-and-a-half contest, which carries prize-money of £500,000, was a Group 2 race when forming part of the first Champions Day before being upgraded to a Group 1 in 2015 It has not paid to look too far beyond the obvious, with all bar one of the dozen winners being among the four highest-rated runners. The odd one out was Seal Of Approval (2013), who had suffered a fall on her previous start after three successive wins Her edition was an international affair, featuring runners from England, Ireland, France, Germany and South Africa. Dancing Rain (2011), Simple Verse (2015) and Star Catcher (2019) had all won a Classic earlier in the season, while Emily Upjohn (2022) had looked unlucky not to land the Oaks previously.
Eight of the past 10 winners have been three-year-olds, including a trio – Hydrangea (2017), Magical (2018) and Wonderful Tonight (2020) - who had run at the Arc meeting in France a few weeks earlier.

Info: Content is the only Group 1 winner in this line-up, having won the Yorkshire Oaks at York in August, and she is also officially the highest-rated runner, too. She was providing her record-breaking sire, Galileo, with his 100th individual Group 1 winner when successful at York, when she gained revenge on her Irish Oaks conqueror You Got To Me with Emily Upjohn, winner of this two years ago, back in third. Content’s earlier third to Bluestocking in the Pretty Polly Stakes at The Curragh also reads better now, with the winner going on to scoop the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. A slightly below-par run at Longchamp 13 days ago will probably put some off Content, but she was slow away and not seen to best advantage on that occasion

Info: This filly represents the racing arm of today’s sponsors, QIPCO, and is bred to shine on Champions Day. Her sire, Roaring Lion, won the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes in 2018, while her dam, Simple Verse, landed the Fillies & Mares Stakes in 2015 Queen Of The Pride won a Group 3 prize at Haydock in early June and returned there a month later to gain a commanding victory in the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks, when she won at the main expense of Tiffany and Lady Boba, who have since boosted the form. Many fancied Queen Of The Pride for the Yorkshire Oaks after that, but she trailed home last. It might have been that she was not at home on the fast ground, but that will not be an issue today.
Sex: Filly Colour: Bay Age: 3

Sire-Dam: Study Of Man (IRE) – Zero Gravity

Info: The progressive Kalpana has improved with every run this year, and plenty will fancy her to take a jump in class in her stride. She was impressive when winning the September Stakes by almost five lengths at Kempton last month, having previously also routed the opposition in the Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton. On both occasions she was strong at the finish Her jockey reported that she was still a bit green and raw on her latest start, so there may still be more to come Before those wins, she had caught the eye when a staying-on third in the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot. She carries the colours of Juddmonte, whose Bluestocking was runner-up in last year’s edition before winning the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe this month.
I rode her in work last week and she felt like her old self, her dam won the Fillies & Mares and she didn’t mind soft ground but she (Queen Of The Pride) is by Roaring Lion so I hope it doesn’t get too deep. “ “

RACE SUMMARY
Kalpana was visually impressive when winning the September Stakes at Kempton last month. The improving three-year-old remains of definite interest, but she has yet to prove herself under these conditions and, although pedigree suggests it shouldn’t be an issue, a chance can be taken on TIFFANY. Three from four this season, with her most recent triumph coming in a Group 2 at Baden-Baden, she’s been equally as progressive and, with slow ground certain to suit, the daughter of Farhh may provide some value. Yorkshire Oaks heroine Content holds all the aces on official figures but, on this ground, her Prix de Royallieu-winning stablemate Grateful might be the bigger threat.
PREDICTOR
QIPCO HOLDING has generously sponsored the race. 2nd: Rosallion (IRE) 15/2
3rd: Haatem (IRE) 16/1
Early success for Godolphin was the order of the day in the opening race of the 2024 QIPCO British Champions Series, with William Buick guiding Notable Speech to a comfortable oneand-a-half-length victory on the Rowley Mile Trained by Charlie Appleby the son of Dubawi was held up towards the back of the field by a patient Buick before making smooth headway inside the final three furlongs As prominent racers bar the Richard Hannon trained Haatem started to fall back through the field, both stablemate, runner-up Rosallion and winner Notable Speech made their moves at opposite sides of the track. Having travelled sweetly under Sean Levey, Rosallion struck the front inside the final two furlongs, but was no match for Notable Speech in the closing stages, with Godolphin’s homebred finding room against the far rail and showing a devastating turn of foot to claim victory. 3.05:

NEWBURY, 18TH MAY
1st: AUDIENCE 22/1
2nd: Charyn (IRE) 4/1
3rd: Witch Hunter (FR) 22/1
A winner at Group 3 level previously, 22/1 shot and Cheveley Park second string Audience took his form to a different level, running out an all the way victor of the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes. Both stablemate Inspiral and British Champion Mile winner Big Rock were held up towards the rear of the field, expected to play a leading role in the finish The pair failed to land a glove on the winner however, finishing a wellbeaten fourth and eighth respectively Having set a blistering pace throughout, repelling all challengers on the front end, Audience and Rab Havlin had to dig deep to see off the fast-finishing Charyn by a diminishing one-and-three-quarter-length margin at the line. Witch Hunter plugged on for third.
ROYAL ASCOT, 18TH JUNE
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 1) (1M) £750,000 PRIZE MONEY
1st: CHARYN (IRE) 100/30F
2nd: Docklands 10/1
3rd: Maljoom (IRE) 15/2
Royal Ascot burst into life, with the Roger Varian trained Charyn going one better than his fast finishing second in the Al Shaqab Lockinge, in the Queen Anne Stakes Big Rock and Audience set sharp fractions at the head of affairs, but neither were able to sustain the gallop and finished well beaten The stand-side was most certainly the place to be on this occasion, with Docklands (10/1) and Maljoom (15/2) providing a stiff challenge to the eventual 4/1 winner Charyn. Having taken it up approaching the furlong pole, Silvestre De Sousa’s mount kept on gamely against the stands rail to prevail by two-and-a-quarterlengths, winning his first Group 1 for owner Nurlan Bizakov.
ROYAL ASCOT, 20TH JUNE
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 1) (1M) £700,000 PRIZE MONEY
1st: ROSALLION (IRE) 5/2
2nd: Henry Longfellow (IRE) 11/2
3rd: Metropolitan (FR) 20/1
Billed as one of the races of the series, the St James’s Palace Stakes certainly did not disappoint The winners of the English, Irish and French 2000 Guineas alongside a host of other equine stars, such as top two-year-old Henry Longfellow and the consistent Alyanaabi went to post in what was a scintillating contest A replication of the 2000 Guineas form looked to be on the cards as the eight strong field turned into the famous Ascot home straight, with Rosallion travelling particularly well It would be Richard Hannon’s charge that engaged top gear best, reversing fortunes with an underwhelming Notable Speech Sean Levey’s mount quickened up impressively to draw alongside and pass Ballydoyle’s Henry Longfellow in the shadow of the post en-route to a neck success
GOODWOOD, 31ST JULY
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 1) (1M) £1,000,000 PRIZE MONEY
1st: NOTABLE SPEECH 3/1
2nd: Maljoom (IRE) 11/2
3rd: Facteur Cheval (IRE) 5/1
The first QIPCO British Champions Series race of Glorious Goodwood saw QIPCO 2000 Guineas hero Notable Speech roar back to form in sparkling fashion Whilst the immensely talented son of Dubawi struggled on good to firm ground at Ascot’s Royal meeting, the Qatar Sussex Stakes was to prove a different story altogether Godolphin’s star-miler raced keenly in the hands of champion jockey William Buick but was able to settle better than he had in the St James’s Palace Stakes during the middle part of the contest. Upon turning for home, Notable Speech looked to be travelling with ease just behind the leading pair and that proved to be the case as Buick began to play his hand inside the final few furlongs Whilst his rivals were toiling, the son of Dubawi demonstrated a sensational turn of foot to scamper up the inside rail at the cutaway and sprint clear to register a second Group 1 success by one-and-a-quarter-lengths
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 1) (1M) £300,000
1st: TAMFANA (GER) 2/1F
2nd: Inspiral 9/2
3rd: See The Fire 6/1
David Menuisier enjoyed a day in the QIPCO British Champions Series sun in October as his classy Tamfana gave him Virgin Bet Sun Chariot glory. Having plundered the Group 3 Atalanta Stakes at Sandown Park on her previous start, Tamfana was without the services of regular rider Oisin Murphy, with Colin Keane replacing his fellow countryman in the plate Keane and the talented daughter of Soldier Hollow bounced out early and claimed the lead before slowing the pace from the head of affairs. Approaching three furlongs from home, all six runners looked to be travelling within themselves but it was the Quantum Leap Racing owned three-year-old that would make the first move, winding the pace up gradually from the front to exploit any weaknesses present in her rivals The final threat to Tamfana arrived in the shape of Inspiral, the six-time Group 1 winner thrusting towards the outside of the track in the hands of Rab Havlin
The £1.1million showpiece, the most valuable mile race in Europe, was established in 1955 and named in honour of Queen Elizabeth II It was given Group 1 status in 1987 and is the final race in the Mile category of the QIPCO British Champions Series.
It has a magnificent roll of honour, not least since forming part of Champions Day in 2011 Frankel was a commanding four-length winner from Excelebration that year and would end his flawless career being hailed as the greatest thoroughbred there has been.
Excelebration went one better 12 months later before Olympic Glory helped Richard Hannon Sr become champion trainer for a fourth and final time in 2013 His son, Richard Hannon Jr, saddled King Of Change to win in 2019. Charm Spirit signed off his sparkling career with victory in 2014, while Solow (2015) and Minding (2016) also capped brilliant campaigns with victory in the race. Roaring Lion was similarly prolific before striking in 2018 Like the winner the previous year, Persuasive, he was a grey.
The Revenant kept up France’s excellent recent record when successful in 2020, while Baeeed landed a memorable running in 2021. His only defeat, in a dazzling 11-race career, would come in the Champion Stakes a year later. France added to their record with Big Rock’s impressive victory last year.

Info: Three greys have won the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes since 2015 – Solow, Persuasive and Roaring Lion - and Charyn will be a short price to give the silver brigade another triumph The son of Dark Angel has been one of the stars of the season, winning the Doncaster Mile, bet365 Mile, Queen Anne Stakes and Jacques le Marois In addition, he has been runner-up in the Lockinge Stakes and Prix du Moulin. His defeat in the latter, at the hands of the enterprisingly ridden Tribalist, looked a case of what might have been, as he stayed on stoutly after getting caught out of his ground. Roger Varian won the QEII with Bayside Boy at 33/1 two years ago. Sadly, Charyn will not be such a chunky price.

Info: David Menuisier broke his Ascot duck in style four years ago when Wonderful Tonight won the Fillies & Mares Stakes on Champions Day He has since added just one more course win, but plenty will fancy Tamfana to give him another huge success here. This filly has yet to run a bad race in nine starts and was dominant when winning the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket a fortnight ago. That went some way to compensating her for her luckless defeat in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas in May, when she met trouble in running and finished fourth. In between, Tamfana has run other fine races, including when a close third in the Prix de Diane at Chantilly She is tremendously versatile regards ground, trip and tactics.
Sex: Colt Colour: Bay Age: 4
Trainer: Simon & Ed Crisford
Sire-Dam: Kingman – Sajjhaa (IRE)
Breeder: Godolphin
Owner: Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum
Info: The lightly raced Quddwah has been beaten just once in five races plus has shown a soft spot for Ascot. Unraced as a two-year-old, the Kingman colt was also restricted to just two races last season, when winning at Salisbury and Newmarket in the space of 15 days This season, he has been making up for lost time. He won on his return at Ascot in May, when edging out Docklands, who was subsequently runner-up in the Queen Anne Stakes He returned here in July, when taking the Group 2 Anne Cowley Memorial Summer Mile Stakes with something to spare. Quddwah lost his unbeaten record when fourth to Charyn in the Jacques le Marois last time, but it was still a fine run, especially as connections felt the ground was a bit quick for him
He has had a terrific season and it might have been even better, as he was arguably a bit unlucky at Longchamp in the Moulin. He’s in great form and was very good at Ascot in the Queen Anne earlier this season

RACE SUMMARY
Charyn has four wins from six starts and two second places this year, with his victories including the Queen Anne here at the Royal meeting, although that was on a quicker surface. Second in the Prix du Moulin last time out, he is a worthy favourite but may struggle to give 6lb to Atalanta Stakes and Sun Chariot heroine TAMFANA An unlucky fourth in the 1000 Guineas and beaten less than a length in the Prix de Diane, she hasn’t run a bad race all season and may make it three in a row. Quddwah has only lost the once, when fourth to Charyn in the Prix Jacques le Marois, and is one to consider at a far bigger price.
RACE PREDICTOR
QIPCO HOLDING has generously sponsored the race. A silver salver will be presented to the winning owner, with a replica for the winning trainer and jockey In addition, a memento will be presented to the stable lad or lass of the winning horse A £250 cash prize will be presented to the stable lad or lass responsible for the best turned out horse
Godolphin are today crowned as the Champion Owners in British Flat racing for the sixteenth time.
Their season got off to the best possible start when Notable Speech – their flagbearer and highest earner during 2024 – won the QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket providing jockey William Buick with his first success in the Classic.
The Dubawi colt was unraced as a juvenile and traversed a rarely-trodden path to Guineas glory having only made his debut on Kempton’s All-Weather surface towards the end of January As impressive as he was there and in two subsequent outings at the Sunbury-on-Thames venue, few could have foretold the impression that he would make on the Rowley Mile on the first weekend in May.
The highly-regarded and top-class Rosallion burst clear of the field in The Dip but was scythed down by an electric turn of foot from Notable Speech who galloped on strongly to win by a length and a half
He had an off-day in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot but was reported to be firing on all cylinders going into the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood and duly delivered another scintillating performance where his change of pace again took the breath away. In doing so, Notable Speech became the first horse since the brilliant Frankel to win both the 2000 Guineas and Sussex Stakes in the same season The victory was the 50th Godolphin Group One for his sire Dubawi and left Buick singing the three-year-old’s praises
“He was a brilliant Guineas winner, with a very rare turn of foot that you very rarely see, and we saw that again today,” Buick said
“A horse with his ability and turn of foot is rare to see He’s a horse that really excites you and it’s a real privilege to ride him He is a brilliant horse.”
All roads now lead to the Breeders’ Cup in America where Notable Speech should get the conditions he needs to showcase his talents
Victory for Rosallion wouldn’t have been a total disaster for Godolphin as he is a son of their successful sire Blue Point, described by the Racing Post as an ‘awesome five-year-old’
At only 10 years old, Blue Point has years ahead of him but he was in the front of trainer Charlie Appleby’s mind after watching Shadow Of Light win the Group One Middle Park Stakes by an impressive four lengths to take his career record to three wins from four starts with his sole defeat – by just half a length – arguably down in large part to being drawn on the wrong side of the track at York
Following his Newmarket romp Appleby suggested Shadow Of Light is likely to be aimed at next year’s Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, explaining: “I’m only going back to the years of Blue Point We went into the winter with a clear mind that we were going to sprint and I think it’s the same with this horse We feel he’s a sprinter, we’ll treat him as a sprinter and we’ll work back from the Commonwealth.”
Shadow Of Light is by no means the only juvenile talent housed at Moulton Paddocks in Newmarket.
Aomori City has won two of his four starts with the highlight being the Group Two Vintage Stakes at Goodwood, while Ancient Truth – another son of Dubawi – has a perfect record and set pulses racing when winning the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket in July to leave connections dreaming of collecting another 2000 Guineas in 2025 but as Notable Speech showed, nowadays there is more than one road to travel
Hallasan may be more about the here and now than his aforementioned peers but he was well placed to win the Weatherbys Scientific £300,000 Two-YearOld Stakes at Doncaster and put himself in line for a campaign in Dubai.
Godolphin horses have travelled the globe in search of the right opportunities and the likes of Nations Pride and ‘international superstar’ Rebel’s Romance have flown the blue flag on the world stage for all their victories have not influenced the outcome of this championship race.
Rebel’s Romance did, though, run in the mid-season clash of the generations, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth QIPCO Stakes at Ascot, picking up a six-figure sum for filling third spot in the historic Group One. The remarkable performer subsequently returned to winning ways in Germany having already won big prizes in Dubai and Doha
Similarly, Trawlerman went down on his sword when only giving best to the stayer Kyprios by a length in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot and those stable stalwarts are backed by a strong supporting cast, including emerging talent that will one day pick up the baton.
There are a host of relatively unsung contributors in behind, but that could have been very different for Dance Sequence who came close to supplementing Notable Speech’s Classic success when beating all bar Ezeliya in the Betfred Oaks at Epsom.
Ancient Wisdom failed to trouble City Of Troy a day later in the Derby but had previously chased home Economics in the Dante and has since won at the Newmarket July Festival to suggest that his future remains a bright one.
Saeed bin Suroor doesn’t have the firepower of old but Godolphin’s most longstanding trainer can still produce the goods with the right horses as he has shown with a typically astute campaign for Wild Tiger The gelded five-year-old has only managed six career starts but he was won four of them, including three this season culminating in a thrilling head victory in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot under Champion Jockey Oisin Murphy
Bin Suroor has operated at a strike rate of around 25% during the season and Appleby has a similarly impressive record. It may not have been a record year for Godolphin but the global operation have still remained in a league of their own when it comes to accumulating success and prize money from British racing, while enjoying worldwide success The foundation blocks are in place across all parts of the operation to build on a successful 2024.

The LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings is horseracing’s equivalent to World Rankings by other major sporting organizations such as ATP Tennis Rankings, World Golf Rankings, FIFA World Rankings for soccer and IRB Rugby World Rankings.
The LONGINES Rankings are based on the ratings earned by horses running worldwide from North and South America, Europe, Middle East, South Africa, Asia through to Australia and New Zealand.
The ratings are compiled under the auspices of The International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) by racing officials & handicappers representing the five continents who compile the ranking order by agreeing on the rating for each horse.
The ratings are based on the performance of horses in elite races held during the designated period which takes in account the quality of opposition and achievements of each horse.
Throughout the year the LONGINES Rankings are published at regular intervals and the consolidated annual rankings are released in January. The annual rankings denote the champions in the various distance categories for example sprint or mile, surface either turf or dirt/artificial and also the fillies & mares category.

EPSOM DOWNS, 31ST MAY
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 1) (1M 4F)
£450,000 PRIZE MONEY
1st: LUXEMBOURG (IRE) 9/4
2nd: Hamish 4/1
3rd: Feed The Flame 6/1
Ryan Moore continued his and Aidan O’Brien’s scintillating start to the season with another major race win, this time landing the Coronation Cup aboard the plucky 9/4 chance, Luxembourg. Bouncing back from a rare below par run at Meydan on his previous start, Coolmore’s son of Camelot jumped well from the stalls to take an early lead, slowing the race down as the top-class quintet travelled through the first half of the race. At the turn into the home straight, Moore asked his mount to quicken and quicken he did, stretching away from his toiling rivals in great style to claim victory by a length. Fan favourite Hamish was outpaced over a trip considered short of his best but rallied strongly for pressure under regular pilot Tom Marquand to take the runner up spot French raider Feed The Flame plugged on for third, in front of the underwhelming Emily Upjohn.
EPSOM DOWNS, 1ST
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 1) (1M 4F) £1,500,000 PRIZE MONEY
1st: CITY OF TROY (USA) 3/1F
2nd: Ambiente Friendly (IRE) 9/2
3rd: Los Angeles 6/1
Aidan O’Brien was able to pull yet another rabbit from the hat in the 2024 Betfred Derby, as 3/1 shot City Of Troy put his QIPCO 2000 Guineas failure behind him to give his trainer a record-extending tenth victory in the race The son of Justify put his best foot forward on the Epsom Downs, travelling powerfully throughout the race and extending away from his rivals when asked to quicken in the final three furlongs. Having raced prominently during the contest, stablemate of the winner, Los Angeles, stayed on dourly for third but was no match for the front two. Winner of a Derby trial en-route to the blue riband, 9/2 second favourite Ambiente Friendly looked to pose the greatest threat to the victor in the closing stages, stalking Ryan Moore’s mount into the race with purpose James Fanshawe’s colt was unable to respond quickly enough to the Rab Havlin drive however and finished a gallant but ultimately well-beaten second place
ROYAL ASCOT, 19TH JUNE
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 1) (1M 2F)
£1,000,000 PRIZE MONEY
1st: AUGUSTE RODIN (IRE) 13/8F
2nd: Zarakem (FR) 33/1
3rd: Horizon Dore (FR) 7/1
Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore’s domination of the middle-distance QIPCO British Champion Series division continued on the second day of Royal Ascot, with 2023 Betfred Derby winner Auguste Rodin emerging victorious as the 13/8 favourite in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes Fading from the turn into the straight, Hans Andersen’s work was done and as Moore asked the fourtime Group 1 winning Auguste Rodin to quicken, he instantly looked to hold the greatest chance. Despite settling nicely towards the rear of the field, star fillies Blue Rose Cen and Inspiral were unable to make significant ground on the winner, their speed blunted by what had become a test of stamina. Despite hitting the front over a furlong from the winning post, a sustained challenge from 33/1 shot and French raider Zarakem looked to have Moore in trouble for a brief period but his mount stayed on dourly under pressure to claim a three-quarter-length success.
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 1) (1M 2F) £750,000 PRIZE MONEY
1st: CITY OF TROY (USA) 1/4F
2nd: Al Riffa (FR) 11/1
3rd: Ghostwriter (IRE) 12/1
The popular Derby winner City Of Troy was back in action, this time at Sandown Park in the Coral-Eclipse Once more, it was O’Brien and Moore that were celebrating Group 1 QIPCO British Champions Series glory in a wet Sandown winners' enclosure. Having been positioned prominently by Moore throughout the contest, alongside stablemate Hans Andersen, Coolmore’s City of Troy pulled to the front in the last two furlongs Clive Cox’s 12/1 chance Ghostwriter was the first to commit to try and reel the favourite in, darting up the rail and delivering a strong challenge under Richard Kingscote. With the line approaching, City Of Troy was under siege from both sides yet was able to hold off the dogged Al Riffa as he thrust inside the final half furlong to score once more.
ASCOT, 27TH JULY
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 1) (1M 4F) £1,250,000 PRIZE MONEY
1st: GOLIATH (GER) 25/1
2nd: Bluestocking 9/2
3rd: Rebel's Romance (IRE) 5/2
A major surprise was to unfold in the middle-distance division of the QIPCO British Champions Series in July as Francis-Henri Graffard’s Goliath galloped his rivals into submission in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth QIPCO Stakes The 25/1 outsider settled in midfield under the prolific Christophe Soumillon, allowing the Ballydoyle trio of Hans Andersen, Luxembourg and Auguste Rodin to set the fractions As the bell rung the eye was drawn to Graffard’s gelding, travelling sweetly and hitting the front two furlongs out under a motionless Soumillon. Whilst Ralph Beckett’s Bluestocking and Godolphin’s Rebel’s Romance briefly looked to challenge the surprise leader, Goliath was in a class of his own and eased away from his high-class rivals in a breathtaking manner, putting two-and-aquarter-lengths between himself and the field by the time the winning post arrived.
YORK, 21ST AUGUST
(CLASS 1) (GROUP 1) (1M 2 1/2F) £1,250,000 PRIZE MONEY
1st: CITY OF TROY (USA) 5/4F
2nd: Calandagan 13/2
3rd: Ghostwriter 33/1
In his bid to become the first horse to complete the Betfred Derby, Coral-Eclipse and Juddmonte International treble in the same season since Sea The Stars, City Of Troy broke well from the stalls and quickly established a surprise early lead. As some of the main market principals began to feel the heat inside the final few furlongs, City Of Troy and Ryan Moore pressed on again from the front, establishing a clear lead in a matter of strides. Held up in a position that had proved disadvantageous throughout York’s Ebor meeting, Francis-Henri Graffard’s Calandagan began to come with a wet sail towards the outside of the course, passing beaten rivals before drawing alongside the heavy favourite as they approached the final furlong. The exertions of that sweeping move were to tell though and Aidan O’Brien’s prized asset was able to find another gear, pulling away at the winning line to prevail by a widening length.
With £1.3 million prize-money on offer, the Champion Stakes is the most valuable mile-and-aquarter race in Europe and brings down the curtain on the 35-race QIPCO British Champions Series in style. First run in 1877, it was annually run at Newmarket before switching to Ascot for Champions Day in 2011.
No fewer than seven Group 1 winners lined up for that renewal, but it was the brilliant French raider, Cirrus Des Aigles, not among that number, who upstaged them all. He would finish runner-up in the next two editions
Ascot rose as one to salute Frankel in 2012 as the titan of the turf capped his flawless career with a 14th successive triumph. His trainer, Sir Henry Cecil, battling ill health, afterwards described him as perhaps the greatest racehorse there has been, and few were inclined to disagree Noble Mission, a younger brother of Frankel, scooped the spoils in 2014. Fascinating Rock (2015) and Almanzor (2016) won for Ireland and France, respectively, with the latter confirming himself as something out of the ordinary.
Cracksman, a son of Frankel, was a breathtaking runaway winner in both 2017 and 2018 Frankie Dettori brought the house down last year as he guided to King of Steel to victory on his final ride in Europe

Info: French-trained runners have a fine record in the Champion Stakes and Calandagan, owned by the Aga Khan, has bright prospects of giving them another success The Gleneagles colt has thrived on his racing over the past year and ran a cracker on his latest start when finishing a length runnerup to City Of Troy in the Juddmonte International The pair pulled clear of high-class opposition Calandagan had won three successive pattern races before heading to York, being particularly impressive when surging to a six-length success in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot. His versatility regards ground and trip, not to mention turn of foot, are all potent weapons, while none of his trainer’s past four runners on Champions Day have finished worse than fourth
Sex: Colt Colour: Chestnut Age: 3

Info: The flashy chestnut will fill the eye of paddock watchers, and he has ability to match his looks, winning each of his four races this campaign. He confirmed himself as one of the best around when a determined winner of the Irish Champion Stakes last month, edging out six-time Group 1 winner Auguste Rodin Economics had previously won in France in fluent style, having also been a wide margin winner of the Dante Stakes at York He has raced mainly on good ground but seemed to handle muddy conditions well enough in his sole race as a two-year-old Economics was unraced at this time last year, but this imposing colt has made massive strides and is now established as one of the most exciting horses in Britain.

Info: Aidan O’Brien has trained many wonderful middle-distance horses, but his sole Champion Stakes winner has been his fabulous filly, Magical, successful in 2019. Will Los Angeles become the first colt from Ballydoyle to take the prize? He is certainly well qualified, having won five of his eight races and run well in defeat on the other occasions Los Angeles landed both his races as a two-year-old, including in Group 1 company, and his exploits this term have included winning the Irish Derby and Great Voltigeur He was also a good third to City Of Troy in the Derby, plus a close fourth to Economics in the Irish Champion Stakes And on his most recent start, he was third in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe
I’ve ridden so many good horses who have been important to me but I have to say Economics is the best I’ve ridden, he’s so exciting. “ “

Economics has been all the rage for this for some time and after keeping his perfect record for the year intact following a ding-dong battle with Auguste Rodin in the Irish Champion Stakes, he will be tough to beat. However, CALANDAGAN came from an impossible position to finish a length second to City Of Troy in the Juddmonte International at York, clocking some exceptional fractions late on, and a repeat of that might be enough to see the French challenger get the better of his market rival. Iresine gets on well with jockey Marie Velon and could steal the final placing ahead of Arc third Los Angeles, who appears the O’Brien number one.
QIPCO HOLDING has generously sponsored the race and will present a specially commissioned trophy to the winning owner and a replica to the winning trainer and jockey In addition, a memento will be presented to the stable lad or lass of the winning horse A £250 cash prize will be presented to the stable lad or lass responsible for the best turned out horse

The Balmoral Handicap has closed Champions Day every year since 2014. The £200,000 mile race has never featured fewer than 18 runners and has often included future stars, with subsequent Group 1 winners Lord Glitters, Accidental Agent, Zabeel Prince, Lord North and Glen Shiel being among those to contest it.
A race known as the Balmoral Handicap had previously been staged over five furlongs at Royal Ascot but was discontinued after the 2003 running. It was always intended to revive the race title when the appropriate opportunity arose, and Queen Elizabeth II graciously consented to it being reintroduced on Champions Day.
Two-time Cambridgeshire winner Bronze Angel won the first running before Musaddas struck 12 months later. Yuften, who had contested Group 1 races early in his career, won in 2016 before the dashing grey, Lord Glitters, snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in 2017 His trainer, David O’Meara, has also hit the target with Escobar (2019) and Shelir (2022)
Spare a thought for John Gosden, who has saddled the runner-up five times without having the winner

Info: Daysofourlives has been hard to fault in the past 13 months or so, including on his regular visits to Ascot. He arrives on the back of a neck defeat of Liberty Lane at Doncaster, and that form got a significant boost when the runner-up subsequently won the Cambridgeshire in great style at Newmarket. That race at Town Moor was over a mile and a quarter, but Daysofourlives is just as effective over this shorter trip, as he showed when a close fourth in the Royal Hunt Cup on his penultimate start. He had also run well when placed at Newmarket on his previous two starts The Churchill colt must cope with a career-high rating, but he’s earned the attention of the handicapper.

Info: Ten years after Night Of Thunder was runner-up in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on Champions Day, one of his sons, Thunder Run, attempts to go one better in the Balmoral over the same course and distance. He’s one of the most unexposed runners in the field, having been unraced until four months ago and having had only five runs The latest of those was in the 18-runner Clipper Handicap at York (a race sponsored by his owners) and Thunder Run passed the test in style, making all the running and keeping on stoutly to fend off Mirsky and Holloway Boy. The handicapper has pushed Thunder Run 4lb up the ratings, but that looks warranted He’s also won at Thirsk and Hamilton this season
Sex: Colt Colour: Chestnut Age: 4

Sire-Dam: Ulysses (IRE) – Sultry
Breeder: Cheveley Park Stud Limited
Owner: Nick White & Mrs E Burke
Info: It was a case of love at first sight for Holloway Boy at Ascot, when he won the Chesham Stakes at 40/1 on his debut at the Royal Meeting in 2022. Twelve months later, he was a fine fourth in the Jersey Stakes, and this year he added to his excellent course record when a close fifth in the Royal Hunt Cup. He returns in excellent heart, having beaten Prague half a length on level terms in a Group 3 contest at Haydock last time The runner-up has franked the form with his subsequent Group 2 victory, suggesting top weight is unlikely to prevent the consistent Holloway Boy running another big race. He is well suited by a mile and seems to act on any ground.
He’s in very good order and this race has been the plan for a while, hopefully the ground suits.

A wide-open handicap and one that hasn’t seen a successful favourite since 2017, with a 25/1 winner last year. Thunder Run took a competitive handicap at York’s Ebor Festival in August and he can go well with Ryan Moore booked to ride, but a 4lb rise may be enough to stop him. TOIMY SON has been targeted at this since his Cambridgeshire third and with a top-four finish in his last six outings and an added 2lb for future races, he is fancied to go close under Oisin Murphy, especially if he starts smartly. Elnajmm won here in July and he could be of some interest if first-time cheekpieces bring any improvement

At all meetings there is a team of specially qualified vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses.
During each race vets follow the horse by car and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the paramedic teams responsible for human casualties. It is standard practise for screens to be fixed around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This does not reflect the severity of an injury, just allows the vet some privacy and the patient a calm environment in which to recover. Please do not always assume the worst if you see screens around a fallen horse.
In the event of racing being abandoned, refunds on entrance money and car parks will only be made in the following circumstances:
