8 Form guide

9 Age

10 Weight

Included in the form guide below each horse is a form rating, calculated from the horse’s previous performances, taking into account a number of variables such as finishing position, distance won/beaten by, horses beaten/beaten by weight carried, race time (compared with the standard time) going allowance, number of days since that performance, etc.

Horses which have not raced will not have a form rating, as may some horses which have raced but not recently in Britain or their performances to-date have not yet merited a rating.

HOW TO BET

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet by naming the horse. The bookmaker will repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

3. If your horse wins, give your Betting Ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, ie. for a win or a place.

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise you as to your rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes.e.g. £1, £5, £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

EACH WAY BETTING

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

• Fewer than 3 runners - all on to win

• 3 or 4 runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2

• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2

• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3

• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3

• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3,4

• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3,4

All bookmakers must display on their boards whether they are betting each way or to win only

Welcome to the Sensational Saturday Raceday, sponsored by the United Council of Racecourse Bookmakers, our first Saturday meeting of the 2024-2025 Jumps season and which ultimately culminates with the Coral Scottish Grand National Festival on 11/12 April 2025.

We’d like to start by expressing our gratitude to all the owners who have chosen to run their horses with us today, your support is truly appreciated and essential to making these racedays possible. We’d also like to extend a warm thank you to each of our valued customers for joining us Your presence brings energy and excitement to the course

As the season shifts, we’re delighted to introduce our new Autumn menu in Silks and Colours cafes featuring hearty, seasonal favourites to keep you warm. I highly recommend the pumpkin soup, honestly the best pumpkin soup I have tasted!

In addition to the thrilling racing action at Ayr today there are big races scheduled at Ascot and Weatherby which we’ll be featuring in the programme to keep you updated and engaged

Racing and Bookmaking have always had a symbiotic relationship going back to the very earliest days of horse racing, the story goes that Harry Ogden in the 1790’s was the first proper bookmaker offering odds on every horse in the race and to this day that practice has endured I’d like to thank our collaboration with our Oncourse Bookmakers for their generous support this afternoon.

We are also grateful to our other sponsors of todays racing Burton Roofing, Lightways Contractors and SK & B Inns for their valued support which is much appreciated and we hope you have an enjoyable day.

We have an exciting day’s racing in prospect with some real quality on show throughout the day with three Class 3 races. The field in the feature Hurdle race at 1.58 is headed by two highly rated hurdlers in Glinger Flame and Wakool both winners at Ayr its sure to very competitive.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the team here at Ayr for their dedication and hard work which go a long way to ensuring the success of days like these

Finally, after the final race we have entertainment with Chart Society in the Princess Royal stand for three hours and for those that wish to pop down to Western House Davie Galloway will be playing between 4.30pm and 7.70pm

A taking winner over 2m4f at Worcester when last seen in August, IRONHILL has since switched yards, and a 4lb rise could prove lenient as he looks to notch up a third career success. It was only late in the piece that Wal Buck’s got the hang of things on chase debut at Perth in May, and stepping up in trip on this occasion looks like a good move. Experienced at this level, Euchan Falls and Grand Voyage are capable of being in the shake-up as well.

TODAY’S JOCKEY TO WATCH - SEAN QUINLAN

Scottish Grand National winning rider Sean drew a blank on our opening day of the new jumps season on Monday but the jockey has been in fine form and has landed himself with an excellent book of rides this afternoon. Quinlan won Ayr’s biggest jumps race on Takingrisks for Nicky Richards in 2019 and he continues to ride plenty of winners for the Penrith trainer, as well as former Gordon Richards assistant Martin Todhunter and wife Lizzie Quinlan. Booked rides for the jockey today include 2023 winner Glinger Flame which is back to defend his crown in the 1.58 Saracen Beau, also for Nicky Richards in the 12.48 and Special Rate for wife Lizzie in the 2.29

RACE RESULT DISTANCES

Now that SHOESHINE BOY has regained the winning thread with a determined performance at Hexham last month, the eight-year-old may be able to follow up off just 3lb higher at a track where he has an excellent record. Faithfulflyer bounced back to form with an encouraging second over 2m5f at Kelso last time out and he must enter calculations, along with the returning Ottizzini, who was placed in a Listed mares’ novices’ hurdle last season.

TODAY’S TRAINER TO WATCH - NICK ALEXANDER

Fife-based Nick had a winner and two seconds on this card last year with the popular grey Everyday Champagne the one to get the corks popping at the Kinneston yard and the trainer saddles another strong team of runners today Stable jockey Bruce Lynn is also back in action at Ayr after riding out his 3lbs claim as a conditional rider at Kelso last Saturday That winner came on the yard’s evergreen chaser Elvis Mail and both trainer and jockey were here at Ayr last Monday when the stable ran 6 horses which are sure to have their best days ahead of them this season. Today’s team includes the popular grey Wakool which finished behind Glinger Flame in last year’s running of the 3 miles handicap hurdle at 1.58 after winning the same race in 2022.

RACE RESULT

DISTANCES 1ST

The Kalooki Kid has to be of interest on his return to action having shown promise as a novice hurdler last season, but marginal preference is for MYRETOWN Lucinda Russell’s gelding had plenty in hand when landing a maiden hurdle at Kelso in March and the winning point-to-pointer may progress now switched to fences. Cases can be made for all of the remainder, but Whizz Kid is just the pick of them.

Lots with chances but Ultima hero CHIANTI CLASSICO begins his second season as a chaser on an attractive mark and with better to come from Kim Bailey’s highly progressive sort he looks very much the way to go. Highstakesplayer boasts an impressive strike rate over fences and heads the list of dangers, although the lightly-raced Our Power is also weighted to have a say and in-form duo Hidden Depths and Mylesfromwicklow need factoring in too.
