HOW TO BET WITH A RACECOURSE BOOKMAKER
WAYS TO BET
STRAIGHT EACH WAY
Win only A bookmaker taking each way bets will display the terms on which he/she accepts such bets on the top of his/her board. This is a bet for your selection to win or be placed.
STANDARD TERMS FOR EACH WAY BETTING
In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.
· Fewer than 5 runners – all to win
5-7 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2
· 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3
Handicaps with 12-15 runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3
· Handicaps with 16 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4
AWAY BETTING
Many bookmakers will also take bets at the other race meetings today. They offer a comprehensive service, including bets settled TAX FREE at Starting Price (S.P.)
BETTING WITHOUT THE FAVOURITE
At reduced odds you can back a horse and collect if it wins or runs second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite.
PLACING YOUR BET
Shop around for the best odds against your selection. When you have decided on where to place your bet, state the number of your chosen horse and the stake, for example “number 4, £2 win”. Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to his/her clerk and hand your stake to the bookmaker You will then be given an itemised receipt that gives details of the bet and shows potential winnings. You should keep this ticket safe.
COLLECTING YOUR WINNINGS
If your selection wins (or, in the case of a place bet, is placed), hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. NEVER destroy your ticket until after the “Weighed In” announcement has been made. There may still be a Stewards’ Enquiry and the first past the post, or placed horses, may be disqualified. On rare occasions even the horse coming fourth has been awarded the race You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker as they have all been approved by the Administration of Gambling on Tracks Ltd, which administers the betting rings at each of Britain’s 60 racecourses. The AGT also offers a full late pay service, in case a bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings. Late pay claims should be sent to AGT, 3A Kings Hall, Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire PE27 4WY.
Tel: 01480 499180
In the unlikely event that no independent bookmaker turns up to service either end of the racecourse (Bangor and Overton car parks), Bangor Sport will be able to service all betting requirements. Bangor Sport will offer to either ‘take the price’ or use the SP as a means of settling any bet. We will endeavour to show all races (including all those from away courses) on screens at either end of the course. If you have any queries, please ask a member of staff for help.

15. A guide to the horse’s recent form and star rating. Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race.
HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
16. Jockey’s Name. If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

FANCY THAT
D MCCAIN won the 1.00 race in 2017, 2018 and 2020 The stable is represented by ATLANTIC LAD AND BO CRUZ in the race today.
NOTE: All statistics are up to and including 11th December.
Classic Maestro will be popular for Jenny Candlish after an easy win at Wetherby last time out Preference is for Gentleman Bill, a point winner who bolted up on debut for the yard in a Newcastle bumper, he was fortunate to win on his first try over hurdles when Oh My Johnny was a length ahead when falling at the last Oh My Johnny went on to win next time out so the form looks strong. Gentleman Bill now goes into handicaps off 111 and is still unexposed.
Excelero made a promising start to his career last season, he was second behind Salver on debut who went on to be third in the Triumph Hurdle, he was then forth at Cheltenham behind Sir Gino before being eased in class and bolting up at Market Rasen. On his seasonal debut he was well beaten at Newbury but that was a Premier Handicap and he looked like he was in need of the run. He is back in calmer waters here and will take all the beating.
Alastair Ralph does well with his runners at the track and has been in great form of late. Greatness Awaits hasn’t been with him long but caught the eye at Ludlow last time out He came there travelling well before getting tired and weakening. That was over 3 miles, this drop back in trip is sure to suit and he’s a very interesting runner.
Hard to see past the John McConnell trained Kevin’s Pride who won his Kilbeggan bumper by a wide margin, he then went to Carlisle and despite being a bit scrappy with his jumping ran well finishing second. The third from that race went on to win next time out so the form looks strong. He should tidy up his jumping with that experience under his belt and should take all the beating here.
A competitive race here and plenty of chances. Thanksforthehelp hacked up at Chepstow off a mark of 117 two season ago. He got hammered by the handicapper for that effort and although he won a Southwell Novice Hurdle, he struggled off his revised mark. He is now down to 118 and caught the eye last time out at Cheltenham in a better race than this, the soft ground here is also a plus and he should go well.
Sherminator for Emma Lavelle looks most interesting. He ran in an Exeter 1m5f bumper on debut shaping like the trip was a little on the sharp side for him. He stayed on well there and that race is working out well, he should improve for that run and is fancied to go close.

Race Summary:
The manner in which DOYEN QUEST overcame a significant early blunder here the previous month suggests a 10lb higher mark may not be enough to prevent him from going in again, not least as he’s totally unexposed as a stayer.
