Star Rating Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance. Official BHA Rating The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. 3

PLAY SMARTER

UNCS looked good when making a winning start to his career over C&D recently and, with the promise of better to come, he is likely to take plenty of stopping. Sharp Combo is feared back at a more realistic level after his Royal Ascot assignment, but a bigger threat is likely to be posed by Silks Dream, who shaped with plenty of promise when third at Chelmsford 17 days ago.

PLAY SMARTER

LATIN FIVE is better than this season’s form figures might imply and is worth chancing from his reduced mark with cheekpieces added. Dark Shot has acquitted himself well on recent starts and ought to be thereabouts if starting better than he did at Chester last week. East Street Revue is well capable from a mark in the 60s and also makes the shortlist.

PLAY SMARTER

It’s hard not to be sweet on the chances of STRAWBERRI who starts life in handicaps on an attractive mark and showed good battling qualities when scoring at Haydock last time. Elvrika is feared most on the back of her recent Haydock success, with fellow handicap debutante Pertemps Sia not taken lightly either in an intriguing handicap.

Important Information

Whilst we keep restrictions to a minimum, there are some rules we impose under the Rules of Racing and in the interests of your safety, and you can find full details below.

Abandonment If the race meeting is abandoned before the first race has been run, any abandonment tickets issued will allow admittance into a subsequent race meeting (s) as designated by Beverley Racecourse. At our discretion, we will make a full refund of admission charges. If the race meeting is abandoned after the first race has been run, no refunds will be made in respect of admission charges or will any abandonment tickets be issued. When abandonment tickets have been issued before the first race has been run, each physical ticket would need to be exchanged on arrival to gain admittance at the subsequent designated race meetings and will only be admitted on the like for like to the same enclosure.

Admission Rights We reserve the right to refuse admission to, or eject from the Racecourse, any person, without assigning a reason for doing so, and do not accept responsibility for loss or damage to persons or their property.

Dress Code You are welcome to wear what you like in the Course and Grandstand & Paddock Enclosures, but in the Premier Enclosure we suggest you make the most of the opportunity to dress up (it is the races after all!) Tailored shorts and t-shirts are fine; we just ask your overall appearance is smart. Sportswear and fancy dress is not permitted.

Evacuation Procedure Beverley Racecourse has the highest safety & security measures in place to ensure your safety, comfort and enjoyment of the day. However, if an incident occurs which is beyond our control, it is important that you are aware of how we look after you in the event of an emergency. We employ professionally trained and experienced stewards who are located around the course and are identifiable by their uniform. In the event of a situation that requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will direct you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly. The adjacent is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember: • Take your belongings with you; • Under the directions of the stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area.

28

Health & Safety Notice We request that you observe all Health & Safety requirements whilst you are at Beverley Racecourse. Please do not stand in the aisles of the Grandstand as this could prevent access in an emergency. We ask that only those that are disabled use the disabled viewing ramp and that parents keep a close eye on all children and prevent them from climbing the running rails and getting onto the actual racecourse. Remember - the first aid unit is located next to the Minster Building in the Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure.

Photography Photographers operate on racedays to take fun pictures of our racegoers. These photos are used on social media as a service to our racegoers and our marketing in print and online. In line with GDPR laws, you have the right to choose to not be in these photos, or to remove your permission once the photo has been taken. Please just alert a member of staff or the photography that you do not want your picture taken; alternatively if you see a picture of you that you do not want to be public, please contact the office on 01482 867488 and we will remove it immediately and destroy all copies.

Racegoer Safety We ask all visitors to observe the following points for their own safety: • Racegoers MUST cross the racecourse only at the specific manned crossing point, namely the Grandstand and Paddock upper crossing. This point is manned for your own safety racegoers should make no attempt to cross the course until advised to do so by the racecourse staff. ANYONE IGNORING THIS REQUEST IS LIKELY TO BE EXCLUDED FROM THE PREMISES • When watching the racing from the middle of the course, racegoers should avoid standing too close to the rails and under no circumstances should children be allowed to sit on the rail. We would stress that the above points are there to help keep you, the jockeys and the horses from coming into immediate contact and for your own safety.

Radios & Mobile Telephones The use of all types of communication equipment is strictly controlled at all racecourses. Members of the public may not use two-way radios, scanning receivers etc., for any purpose at the racecourse.
