CAB ON TARGET
SUNDAY 23RD
Welcome to Carlisle Racecourse for the Ladbrokes Go North Finals Raceday supported by The Racing Post.
We have six thrilling jump races scheduled today with a total prize fund of £134,000 on offer for winning connections. Our first race is due off at 14.10pm shortly followed by the three Go North Chase finals and the Veterans Chase all worth £30,000 each
The Go North finals weekend is now in it’s 5th year of running and we are extremely proud to host the three chase finals here at Carlisle. The Go North series was designed to give connections of mid-range rated horses an end of season target with decent prize money whilst boosting field sizes on the northern circuit through the various qualifiers.
Each race is aptly named after iconic horses that raced in the North; One Man was a Champion Chaser trained in Cumbria by Gordon Richards as was his fellow flying top-class grey, Monet’s Garden, who was with his son Nicky. The other, is named after the mighty Red Rum, who needs no introduction to jumps fans and we have a bar named in his honour here He used Carlisle as a launch point for his annual trips to Aintree where he landed an unprecedented three Grand Nationals! Best of luck to all Owners, Trainers and connections today.
Also a huge thanks to todays’ sponsors for their generous support:
• Ladbrokes
• The Racing Post
• The Phizacklea Family
Why not join us for our next fixture during half-term week on Tuesday 8th April, or if you are looking for a more family focussed day to bring the kids we also have a fixture on Saturday 19th April which will feature lots of Easter themed entertainment! More info on page 10 or online.
Finally, I would like to thank all racegoers, hospitality guests, owners and trainers for being here today, your support is very much appreciated. I hope you have a fantastic day and come back to join us again soon!
With best wishes
Helen Willis Carlisle Racecourse General Manager

In April 2015 the family of Peter Phizacklea O.B.E. surprised him on his 78th Birthday by sponsoring a race in memory of his late wife Pauline, who sadly passed away in 2006.
Peter was awarded the O.B.E. in 2003 for his “Services to Cumbria and The Lake District”.
The Phizacklea family had such a memorable day that they have continued to sponsor a race each year since, (with the exception of the two Covid years). Unfortunately Peter was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2016 ultimately resulting in him now residing at Ostley House care home in Barrow-in-Furness.
Today sees the 9th running of the Pauline Phizacklea Memorial Hurdle in memory of a loving wife, mother & grandmother.
Sadly missed - always in our thoughts

TOMMYCOMBATS couldn’t live with a very progressive sort at Ayr last time but it was another solid effort from Martin Todhunter’s 6-y-o and he can come good tackling largely much more exposed opponents this time. One who is relatively lightly raced, at least over fences, is Raffles Wonder and he’s second choice ahead of recent Sedgefield scorer Fearless Action.
