RACING’S

TRENDSETTERS GUIDE

Previous race trends (2015-24) can often help provide a shortlist of potential winners in the current year’s races. Hopefully these brief pointers will assist racegoers at Carlisle today. The figure in brackets after the race details is the favourite’s strike rate for the race Trainers who have won the race before and have an intended runner at the 5-day declaration stage are also highlighted. NB The 2023 meeting was abandoned

Sunday 9th March 2025

2.00 – 2m 1f Hurdle (4yo): New race in 2024 Trainer to watch: Lucinda Russell (1 win).

2.30 - 2m 1f Novices’ Hurdle (37%): New race in 2020 with all four winners to date being very well backed at odds of 9/4 or shorter Also, all had last run 23-43 days earlier finishing 3rd or better LTO. Trainers to watch: D McCain (2 wins); N Richards (1 win).

3.00 - 2m 5f Novices’ Handicap Chase (11%): Only one winning favourite and two winning 2nd favourites seen to date with longest winner’s odds being 10/1. Since 2015 the highest weight carried by a winner in this race was11st 9lbs. Trainers To Watch: N Alexander (2 wins); V Williams (1 win).

Donald McCain’s veteran MINELLA TRUMP should be all the better for his recent Bangor fourth after an absence so gets the nod ahead of recent point scorer Diable de Sivola. Saint Calvados would be a major player if on song but refused in a point recently which tempers enthusiasm.
