Timeform Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
You must be 18 or over to place a bet
You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet
If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

FORGE VALLEY LAD was denied a clear run at a crucial stage when finishing fourth over this trip at Lingfield recently and, eased 2lb, he gets the vote to gain compensation. Star Of St James ran out a ready winner under this rider over 1m2f at Nottingham on his penultimate start and, on the back of a solid fourth at Carlisle latest, he warrants respect. C&D winner Stormingin is also considered.

BASCINET left the strong impression that his turn is near when finding just one too good at Bath a fortnight ago and he looks the way to go. With last month’s spin at Goodwood likely to bring him on, Meadram could be a threat, along with Handel and Star Of St James.

Me Tarzan displayed some improvement when fourth on his nursery debut at Kempton earlier this month and is a player, while Havana Club also merits consideration. The verdict is for MEHMASSELF AND I, though, who could improve for the application of a first-time tongue-tie and reverse Kempton form with the aforementioned Havana Club. Of the others, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if Lift Lady went well.

CITY SELECTIONS
SAPPHIRE VALLEY impressed when scoring with the minimum of fuss over 7f at Wolverhampton on his debut last week, and the son of Blue Point gets the nod to give weight and a beating to these rivals. This step up in trip can see 32,000-euro breeze-up purchase Rock Master improve on his debut effort over 5f at Lingfield and he can give the selection most to think about. Terramindar is also worthy of consideration.

SHAMADOR showed plenty of ability when finding only a progressive rival too good on his racecourse debut over 7f at Newcastle and, with significant improvement likely, he should take some stopping. Archie Watson’s horses are in good form and this son of Shaman can continue that recent run. A win appears just around the corner for Metro Dubai, who ran well when second over 7f at Wolverhampton latest, while Mandana also warrants respect.

Not a particularly deep contest, so ONE ROAD is expected to defy a 6lb penalty and follow up from his win at Wolverhampton earlier in the week. Only narrowly beaten over 6f at Brighton on his penultimate start, NOGO’S DREAM can get his head in front. Richard Hughes’ runner arrives here off 1lb lower than that Brighton outing and, should he bounce back to form following a mediocre Sandown display, he should be difficult to stop. Happy Tears rates as the biggest danger after a C&D success last time, while Scarboroughwarning is respected back in handicap company

LION RING is in the form of his life at present and a 4lb rise for his most recent success over 5f here may not be enough to prevent him from landing the hat-trick. Stepping back up to 6f looks like a good move and he may have too much for comfortable Wolverhampton winner Koji and Time Patrol, who was narrowly denied at the same track on Monday. Lewis Barnes and War Zone are expected to be thereabouts as well.
LION RING Koji
Leading course trainer (19-24): S C Williams (53 wins from 423 runners, 13%) runs LEWIS BARNES

Weightwatcher: GLOBAL EFFORT won off a handicap mark of 52, his rating is now down 5lb to 47. Longest Traveller: TIME PATROL trained by T Carroll, Cropthorne, 166 miles.

BOLD SUITOR snapped a losing run stretching back more than 2 years when getting the better of an unexposed rival here recently He is taken to follow up, perhaps at the chief expense of We’renotreallyhere, who put in a good shift at Wolverhampton last week. Valadero is a live each-way candidate, while Hurricane Power has only gone up 3lb for his Windsor success and is in with a shout.
