Saint Francis Hospice
Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse
Our card this evening starts with a fascinating contest for two year old fillies. The attractive prize money has attracted some quality fillies; notably, the top filly, Biniorella Bay, who has already finished fourth twice in Group 3 company over 7 furlongs. At the end of July, she was beaten less than two lengths at Deauville before finishing a respectable fourth again at Glorious Goodwood a month later. She is by New Bay, who won the Prix du Jockey Club (the French Derby), so the step up to a mile should be to her advantage. The five other fillies have attractive pedigrees and must be well thought of to be running in such a valuable maiden race, so we look forward to an exciting contest.
I hope you have a lovely evening and enjoy all the racing we have on offer.

Timeform Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

The progressive BINIORELLA BAY was far from disgraced when finishing fourth behind some smart rivals in a Goodwood Group 3 over 7f when last seen and, tackling a mile for the first time, this looks like a good opportunity for her to return to winning ways. Mythical Bird can emerge as the main danger to the selection after her third at Kempton last time, while Protest is a newcomer to note.

GRAND DUCHESS OLGA impressed when winning cosily over 2m at Kempton on her penultimate start and, after shaping like she was still in good form when finishing third over the same C&D most recently, she gets the vote to score. Pfingstberg was running consistently well prior to a low-key effort over 2m at Beverley when last seen and he warrants respect. Dereham’s turn in the winner’s enclosure doesn’t look far away either

Telford pulled clear with the runner-up when scoring over C&D on her nursery debut and she must enter calculations, although more will be required off 6lb higher With that in mind, preference is for BRANDYWINE FALLS, who caught the eye when staying on strongly into fourth over 6f at Redcar last week. With the step up in trip promising to suit, he looks the one to beat off an unchanged mark. Karl Carlston is also considered.

PLAY SMARTER
Not a strong maiden in terms of depth but DANCING MAGIC is firmly established as a useful performer and this could be the day he gets off the mark with his promising rider taking off a very handy 3lb. Stanage has the ability to play a lead role for all he hasn’t always looked straightforward and he, along with improving filly Jumeirah Sea, head up the dangers.

CITY SELECTIONS
PINBALL WIZARD scored readily over this trip at Wolverhampton 10 days ago and, as a previous winner on Polytrack, he has a lot going for him under a 5lb penalty with Sean D Bowen retaining the ride. Nammos made a winning start for Jane Chapple-Hyam over this C&D in August and is an attractive alternative to the selection off just 3lb higher. Hat-trick seeker Desert Dream is also feared back on the all-weather from a handy draw

CLEAR JUSTICE has scope to improve at this trip and could be tough to beat in this company if building on his near miss at Brighton last month. The well-handicapped Semser, who is a previous C&D winner, is forwarded as the chief threat to the selection, although Alyara and Bakersboy are dangerous to underestimate at this level and also warrant betting checks at the very least.

CITY SELECTIONS
Seven of SIR RODNEYREDBLOOD’s career wins have come at this course, but Lingfield was the scene of his latest success in August. He remains well handicapped, despite a 3lb rise, and it is John Jenkins’ gelding that shades preference. Crocodile Power ought to go well in his bid for a hat-trick, having notched up a brace of successes at Catterick recently. Ten Club is also noted.
SIR RODNEYREDBLOOD Crocodile Power
Leading course trainer (19-24): S C Williams (53 wins from 427 runners, 12%) runs SOUTHBANK
Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): I Williams (3 wins from 26 runners, 12%) runs MOKAATIL
Weightwatcher: IMPEACH won off a handicap mark of 68, his rating is now down 7lb to 61.
Longest Traveller: VAPE trained by J & R Flint, Bridgend, 225 miles.
