TONIGHT’S SPONSORS

Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse

We have been very fortunate with the weather recently but there is no doubting that we are now in the “Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness”; in fact, we may well encounter our first frost of the autumn this evening. Nevertheless, we are looking forward to a great evening’s racing with eight races on offer and big fields, which should produce some exciting finishes, amongst which I hope you are able to find the odd winner or two.

Also, this evening, we are presenting our first ever Curry night in the Fairwood Brasserie, where our chefs have prepared a real feast of Indian cuisine to tempt your taste buds. After racing, the chefs have curated five curries of varying types and fieriness for you to taste so, if you think you want to try some hot, tasty and spicy curry, make your way to the Sports Bar.

I hope you have a lovely evening.

Timeform Rating

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

This can go the way of DUBAI MAGIC, who is expected to build on a career-best effort when denied by the narrowest of margins over this distance at Wolverhampton last month. Half a length behind her on that occasion was Love Rock (third), who is likely to make this a test from the front. Virtue Temperance, a comfortable winner at Brighton on her latest start, is another to bear in mind.

DUBAI MAGIC came within a nose of making a successful nursery debut at Wolverhampton 10 days ago and from the inside stall, she looks the answer from the same mark. Love Rock was just behind the selection that day and she should be involved again, with Virtue Temperance also one to view positively

A revelation on his first start for the Jack Jones stable when scoring comfortably over shorter at Wolverhampton last time out, GIFTED ANGEL is likely to have plenty more improvement forthcoming and he can follow up. CITY SELECTIONS

EARL OF ROCHESTER shaped with bundles of promise when only finding two subsequent winners too good on his debut in the Wood Ditton at Newmarket in April. The son of Dubawi might not need to find much improvement in order to strike. Buon Viaggio hasn’t been disgraced on both starts so far and is respected, while Vinny’s Dream is another to watch out for.

SILVER NIGHTFALL has shown improved form since sporting a visor (retained) the last twice, finishing runner-up on both occasions, and this appeals as an ideal winning opportunity. She would have finished closer to the eventual winner if granted a clear run over 1m2f here last month. This drop in trip can see Wadacre Tivoli emerge as the main danger, while Dream Seeker remains unexposed in handicaps and merits consideration.
