Hello and a very warm welcome to Cheltenham Racecourse for The November Meeting!
Today has for a very many years been promoted as Countryside Day, where we work alongside the Countryside Alliance and their chosen charity, which, this year is Racing Welfare The National Hunt season is now in full swing, and we’re thrilled to welcome you to our biggest meeting outside the Cheltenham Festival Countryside Day is a true celebration of everything we love about the sport and the countryside.
Looking at today’s racing we are particularly excited to bring back the Glenfarclas Cross Country race after its unfortunate cancellation at The Festival earlier this year This will be the first of three Cross Country events this season Last year’s race was claimed by Foxy Jacks, ridden by Gavin Brouder, while the ever-popular Latenightpass, under Gina Ellis, took second. The latter went on to triumph in the next renewal during our Christmas Meeting
The Centre Course will be open to Club/Tattersalls ticket holders for viewing of the Cross- Country Race ; this will be restricted to Club/Tattersalls ticket holders and numbers will be limited. Racegoers wishing to view from the designated viewing areas in the centre of the course can gain access across the course (subject to maximum capacity) from immediately after the third race at 2.20pm until approximately 2.45pm, when the first horses go to post for the fourth race, after this time no access will be possible
In a change to previous years, our feature race today, The Shloer Chase, has moved from its traditional Sunday slot to headline Friday’s card We’re all eager to see if Jonbon can defend his crown after last year’s stellar performance, with aspirations of returning here in March.
The excitement isn’t limited to the races, join Paddy Power ‘From the Horse’s Mouth’ live panel as they look ahead to the day’s racing, talk you through the card and pick their ones to watch at 11 am in The Centaur Head across to the Parade Ring for the official Raceday Preview Show at 12:25 pm
In keeping with the Countryside Day theme, the Parade Ring will be alive with demonstrations starting with the Beagle Parade at 11 a.m., followed by the Misslechalke Gundog Display led by Nick Gregory, and concluding with a Fly Fishing Demonstration by the renowned Charles Jardine
A special thank you to our sponsors for their contribution to the day. Today’s gratitude goes to SHS Drinks, Paddy Power, Lycetts Insurance Brokers, Glenfarclas, Albert Bartlett, and Valda Energy
With a full lineup of live music performances throughout the day there is the chance to extend your day with post-racing entertainment in the Guinness Village, Champagne Bar and Quevega’s We’re delighted to have you with us today and look forward to welcoming many of you back again tomorrow, where we expect an attendance of over 30,000 to watch the Paddy Power Gold Cup, and on November Sunday, a very popular family day out.
Thank you for joining us at the Home of Jump Racing Let’s enjoy an unforgettable start to this spectacular November Meeting!

PLAISIR DES FLOS found further progress when bringing up the 5-timer on return at Carlisle 3 weeks ago, only needing hands-and-heels riding to see off another upwardly-mobile sort (the pairclear). It’s feasible to think the handicapperhasn’t caught up with him yet on that evidence and Fergal O’Brien’s 5-y-o makes strong appeal again. Double Powerful is of a very similar ilk and he’s feared, as is Tune In A Box and Il Va De Soi in an ultra-competitive opener

Probable S.P’s: 7-4 Springwell Bay (GB), 5-2 Hyland (FR), 4-1 Resplendent Grey (IRE), 9-2 Buddy One (IRE)
Preference is for RESPLENDENT GREY, who looked a smart novice in the making at Uttoxeter and he looks ready for both this step up in class and trip Springwell Bay also made a winning chase debut at Chepstow and is greatly respected given that, like the selection, he is open to improvement in this sphere. Hyland is impossible to discount on the back of his emphatic C&D success but Buddy One, though the pick ofthese over hurdles, has not looked a natural over fences so far.

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
