W E D N E S DAY 1 JA NUA RY 20 2 5

WELCOME TO

Welcome back to Cheltenham Racecourse as we kick off 2025!

We hope you’ve all enjoyed a wonderful Christmas and are ready for an exciting afternoon of racing The festive period has delivered thrilling races on both sides of the Irish Sea, with numerous horses staking strong claims as we approach the 2025 Cheltenham Festival

The feature race of the day, the Betfair Exchange Handicap Chase, last year saw Cheltenham Festival winner Shakem Up’arry claim victory; this years renewal features Gemirande, who bids to follow up his Nyetimber December Gold Cup success with another win here. Additionally, today’s card showcases a host of competitive contests, none more so than the Dornan Engineering Relkeel Hurdle, where two 2024 Cheltenham Festival winners, Golden Ace and Langer Dan, go head-to-head.

Be sure to join us at 11:00 am for the Betfair Live Panel in The Centaur, where Daryl Carter and others will preview the day’s action and share insights on ones to watch. Then, at 11:35 AM, head to the Parade Ring for the Raceday Preview Show with Martin Kelly and Aly Vance, joined by racing greats and special guests.

Throughout the day, enjoy the Family Fun Zone, featuring beloved characters Bluey and Bingo, as well as exciting activities like Original Tee Mini Golf, The Surf Simulator, and our brand-new VR experience, Race Ride Cheltenham, where you can see what it’s like to ride around this iconic track.

A heartfelt thank you to today’s sponsors: Betfair, Dornan Engineering, Richmond Villages and Bupa Care Homes. Your support helps make this event truly special

Unfortunately, due to high winds in the last 24hrs, we have taken the decision to close the Shopping Village as the trade stands were unable to access the facility to set up and there will no longer be live music in the Guinness Village While we understand this may be disappointing for our racegoers, the safety of everyone on site is our priority. There will be live music in other locations around the racecourse throughout the day, make your way to the Tattersalls Sales Arena, Quevega’s Bar, The Centaur or The Village Champagne Bar.

Looking ahead, our next event is Festival Trials Day on January 25 With seven competitive races, it’s the perfect opportunity to finalize your selections before all roads lead to the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Thank you for joining us today. Happy New Year, and we look forward to welcoming you again soon We’d like to thank you all for joining us today and very much look forward to seeing you again soon

DON’T FORGET OUR NEXT MEETING: Wednesday 25th January

TRIALS DAY

Excitement, anticipation and expectation is building. It is the final opportunity to see the sports protagonists go out to battle on Cheltenham Racecourse’s hallowed turf before the Cheltenham Festival.

KALIF DU BERLAIS showed no ill effects from his chase debut spill and marked himself down as a smart prospect in the process when running out a 3/4-lengthwinner from re-opposing Tedley at Newbury 33 days ago and a subsequent 6lb rise should see him highly competitive again. SALVER shaped as though ready for a stiffer test when capping a productive juvenile campaign by finishingthird intheTriumph Hurdle here in March. He again leftthat impressionwhen fourth on return at Newbury and, now given the chance to show what he can do over a longer trip, the 5-y-o gets the nod ahead of Golden Ace, who was only fourth behind Lucky Place at Ascot but she should be sharper here. Langer Dan is the pick ofthese in terms of raw ability but this scenario may not be ideal.

DECLARED RUNNERS 17

TIMEFORM VIEW Out of a winning hurdler/chaser and showed plenty when runner-up to Merely A Detail at Doncaster on debut. Opentoimprovementandnotwithouthope.

2024: KELDU LARGE (FR) 4 11 0 David Noonan 7-2 (MrsJaneWilliams) 11 ran Stewards Note: INTOSOMETHINGGOOD: Following its run on 5/12/2024 it was reported that the horse hung badly left-handed.

Probable S.P’s: 7-2 Gnomon (GB), 5-1 Lady Tadita (GB), 15-2 Marhaba Prince (GB), 9-1 Merely A Detail (GB), 18-1 Cedar Creek (GB), Rose’s Dart (GB), 20-1 Danger Nap (IRE), Our Boy Stan (GB), 25-1 Gregorians Star (IRE), Precious Metal (FR), 33-1 Crest of Stars (IRE), Walk In The West (IRE), Latopix (FR), 40-1 Caballero Cliff (GB), 100-1 Intosomethinggood (GB), Daffodil (GB), 150-1 The Goose (IRE)

GNOMON made a winning start with a minimum of fuss at Exeter a couple of months ago and there should be more to come with the longer trip no issue, so he gets the marginal vote over Lady Tadita, who also arrives on the back of a successful debut. Marhaba Prince is also considered.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Cheltenham Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
