RACE DESCRIPTION

The Chester Plate is a consolation race for horses which were declared to run, but were eliminated at the declaration stage from this season’s Chester Cup. The contest for four-year-olds and upwards is run over the same distance as the Cup of two miles, two furlongs about 140 yards and looks to be a very competive line-up.

PLAY SMARTER A cracking Chester Plate in which ELYSIAN FLAME is hard to side against given he saddles just a 3lb penalty for his useful win in a strong 2m Newbury handicap and promises better to come over this marathon trip. Roger Varian’s lightly-raced Postileo is a likely improver too at this distance and feared most, although recent scorers Brasca and Hydroplane need a second look.
