THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS

42

WELCOME I am delighted to welcome you all to our 2021 Boe Violet Ladies Night. Having missed out entirely in 2020, it is such a great feeling to be writing this welcome to everyone who is here tonight and also to the team who has worked so hard to make it happen. Thank you to our wonderful sponsors who contribute so much to the evening and have continued with their support to our business throughout the last year. Boe Violet Gin is in full flow tonight in their beautiful bar on the lawn, together with the marvellous Moet bar adjacent to the cat walk. PDM Buildbase is also sponsoring tonight as they have throughout the season and their Nursery Handicap opens the card tonight. We are proudly staging part of the Silk Series tonight, supported by Boe Violet Gin, which is running throughout British racecourses specifically for female jockeys. The leading female jockey at the end of The Silk Series will be awarded ‘The Tufnell Trophy’ in memory of Meriel Tufnell MBE who was Great Britain’s first Female Champion Jockey in 1972, a feat she repeated in 1973 along with also becoming European Female Champion Jockey, making it a very appropriate race to be run tonight on Ladies’ Night. Tonight we also have German Doner Kebab, Penny Cars and McGregor Flooring, all thriving local businesses we are delighted to have as business partners and sponsors. I hope you all, and all of your guests, have a very enjoyable evening with us. An additional feature of tonight is the running of the Almada Mile Handicap at 7.20pm which was originally scheduled for 29 June when sadly we had to abandon racing. This evening’s line-up looks slightly different to that four weeks ago and within that, there’s a runner I have followed before at many other tracks including Ascot and Newmarket, and that is Marie’s Diamond. In memory of my dear late mother-in-law Marie Currie, who herself was a diamond, I will be cheering on Ben Curtis to be first past the post on this, a poignant day to us and Marie. Elsewhere tonight, we have a super evening of fashion with the Deja Elite Boutique Fashion Show at 4pm and 6.30pm and of course the Best Dressed Lady competition and the Slater Menswear Man of Style. With thousands of pounds worth of prizes up for grabs be sure to take part tonight, especially if you have a chance of winning the new for this year prize for Best Mask! Enjoy a drink or something to eat from the host of outdoor concession offerings we have throughout the site for you and please remember to take a seat when you are consuming either a drink or food. This is a current Government requirement as we progress through the easing of restrictions from the pandemic. Your help and co-operation is very much appreciated tonight to keep all of our customers, and our staff too, as safe as possible. If however you have been on your feet too much throughout the night and you need some relief, we have flip-flops-a-plenty on sale at the Information Kiosk to ease your journey home! Thanks for coming tonight and I hope you all have a wonderful evening. Kind regards VIVIEN CURRIE MBE, CHIEF EXECUTIVE

THE PDM BUILDBASE SCOTLAND NURSERY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) (A HAMILTON PARK 2YO SERIES QUALIFIER) RACE DESCRIPTION

A nursery is a handicap that is restricted to two-year-olds only. In order to be allowed to take part, entrants must have already run in three maiden or novice races, or have won two races, which then qualifies them for an official handicap rating based on what they have achieved so far. Quite simply, the higher their rating, the bigger the weight they have to carry. This particular six furlongs race is for horses which have been rated from 0 to 80.

ONE MILE about THREE FURLONGS (11f abt 15yds) (2200m)

Sixth Race

8.20p.m. THE PENNY CARS HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a one mile and three furlongs handicap race for three-yearolds and upwards which have been rated from 56 to 75. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb.

RACE STATISTICS

Leading course trainer (16-21): K Dalgleish (57 wins from 438 runners, 13%) runs AYR EMPRESS and EURO IMPLOSION Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): T Easterby (9 wins from 87 runners, 10%) runs CEDAR RAPIDS Longest Traveller: CEDAR RAPIDS trained by T Easterby, Malton, 203 miles.

4-1 Ayr Empress (IRE), 9-2 Euro Implosion (IRE), 8-1 Natural Value (GB) RACE SUMMARY: CEDAR RAPIDS may not be totally straightforward but he boasts a useful pedigree and needs viewing positively having pulled clear of the rest when beaten only by a progressive one at Doncaster last time. He can go one better in a change of headgear, with Battle Angel second choice given her relatively unexposed profile as a stayer. 1-2-3: 1.CEDAR RAPIDS (IRE) 2.BATTLE ANGEL (IRE) 3.EURO IMPLOSION (IRE) STEWARDS NOTE: AYR EMPRESS: Following its run on 10/7/2021 it was reported that the horse was hampered two furlongs out.

ONE MILE, ONE FURLONG about 35 YARDS (9f abt 35yds) (1800m)

Seventh Race

8.50p.m.

THE MACGREGOR FLOORING HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a one mile and four furlongs handicap race for threeyear-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 55. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 55 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 50.

RACE STATISTICS
