They deliver free, outdoor activity days to support the learning and to boost the self-confidence of children aged nine and above. Racing to School uses racing venues as unique, fast-moving classrooms full of opportunities to practise and improve subjects like maths, literacy and problem-solving.

The charity is only able to support young people’s education through the kind donations it receives. Please scan this QR code to donate, if you can.

PLAY SMARTER

NEBROOK DREAM saw off an in-form rival when scoring on similarly deep ground at Leicester last week and a 6lb penalty may not stop him if in similar form. TODAY'S RACE SPONSOR

Race preview from Weatherbys

It is an absolute pleasure to be sponsoring the Weatherbys Stallion Book Handicap at Haydock this afternoon,aClass4eventstagedover five furlongs, and a field of eight are settogotopost.

Sam England’s Trilby must take high rankhereashe dropsinclasshaving finished runner-up in an extremely competitive sprint at York last Friday. The four-year-old has been in fine form the entire season and has finished outside of the top four just once in his last seven starts, when a good seventh in the Ayr Bronze Cup. His last start in Class 4 company resulted in a victory here at Haydock over six furlongs in August, and he merits plenty of respect. Moonstone Boy was down in ninth in that York contest last week but did suffer from a poor draw. The three-year-old has previously looked progressive when landing back-to-back handicaps at Hamilton in August and a bounce backcan’tberuledout.

Trilby must take high rank here as he drops in class having finished runner-up in an extremely competitive sprint.

OurAbsentFriendswasdisappointing when well supported at Redcar last time but had won two of his previous three starts, including one over

course and distance. Declan Carroll’s Seantrabh was two lengths ahead of that rival at Redcar last time when a close third and the four-year-old is weighted to confirm that form. The Tasleet gelding is winless since a victory at Chester last year but did beat the progressive Fair Wind that dayandisaconsistenttype.

Tim Easterby’s Count d’Orsay has been in mixed form this campaign buthasnotchedtwovictories, bothat Chester.Theeight-year-oldisaninetime winner in his long career and conditionswillsuit.SecretMistralwas just a length behind that rival when thesaddleslippedatChesterandwill benefitfroma7lbswingintheweights here.TonyCarroll’sfour-year-oldwas below form last time but drops back inclasshereandisatwo-timecourse winner.

Jointtop-weightAngelSharedsigned off her 2023 campaign with a victory in a nursery handicap over course and distance and carried that form over to this season when scoring at Bath and Carlisle. Steph Hollinshead’s three-year-old has been below par since but has slid back down the weights slightly and will appreciate underfoot conditions. Seven-yearold NeverDark was last seen making all to win at Hamilton but did run at Nottingham on Wednesday, and this would be a quick turnaround for Iain Jardine’sgelding.

SEANTRABH did well to finish third from an unfavourable draw at Redcar last time and, from a lenient mark, he’s worth siding with. Trilby has been holding his form admirably this season and ran with credit in a more competitive race than this at York a week ago, so he’s regarded as a big danger, while Secret Mistral isn’t without hope either

VETS SCREEN POLICY

We have agreed with our vets that the screen should be erected, whenever a horse requires veterinary treatment on the course. This does not reflect the severity of an injury, but does help to provide a calm environment, in which the vet is better able to treat the horse.

Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
