‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.
How the experts rate the horse’s chances:
2. BHA rating = the higher the number, the better the horse.
3. Timeform view and TFR rating
Look out for the summary of leading course trainers before each race.
Listen out for any jockeys who are having a successful day.

Welcome to Haydock Park Annual Members on our annual pre-Christmas meeting, Betfred Tommy Whittle Chase Day.
First run in 1982, the Tommy Whittle Chase is named in honour of the late Tommy Whittle, a director of Haydock Park for 30 years, 13 of which were spent as Chairman He died in 1981
The Tommy Whittle winners list reads like a Who’s Who of top three-mile chasers. Little Owl, Forgive n Forget, The Thinker, Twin Oaks, Chatham, One Man, Suny Bay and Cloudy Lane have all won it A huge testament to the training abilities of the late Gordon W Richards is that he remains the winning most trainer of the race twenty six years after his death Gordon’s son, Nicky won this last year with Famous Bridge. Every inch a typical horse both he and his owner Hemmings racing excel with, it would be great if he could win again today.
In the supporting card it’s great to see stars of the future going to post for the Betfred Mares Novice Hurdle.
I am also delighted that our Annual Members Lunch will take place on December 30th, free of charge to members. Last year’s food was the apex of gastronomy and I’m sure this year’s offering will be equally as gratifying on the palette!
The Betfair Chase was once again a stellar renewal, with Haydock specialist Royale Pagaille just outpointing Grey Dawning. There is much to look forward to with the alumni of that day this season
Today is the last day of the naps competition There’s a great amount of camaraderie amongst members in this with the free prize of a Membership, and it is set for a pulsating finish with Alan Whittle over ten lengths clear.
A reminder to all - you can renew your membership today for just £430 If you’re thinking of joining, or a present for your significant other, it really is a gift which Santa should have in his sack With an unrivalled list of over 50 reciprocals, including the 1000 Guineas and all days here, it is brilliant value working out at less than £15 per fixture
Today sees a wonderful set of benefits for , from an Annual Badgeholders area, seating which rivals the Royal Albert Hall in the County Stand, a wonderful view of Haydock Park over two panoramic boxes and a munificent allowance on victuals throughout the concourse.
Finally, in my last column of the year, I’d like to thank all Haydock Park Members for their support this year I’d like to thank all racecourse staff especially Sherelle Bartholemew but for whom the membership wouldn’t function - for their support and I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and hope you enjoy Boxing Day wherever you are going racing! Before that, please have an enjoyable and successful day today.

We have agreed with our vets that the screen should be erected, whenever a horse requires veterinary treatment on the course. This does not reflect the severity of an injury, but does help to provide a calm environment, in which the vet is better able to treat the horse.
Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse.

As we mark 42 years ofthe TommyWhittle Chase, today’s race remembers one of Haydock Park’s most influential figures.
TommyWhittle was a Director for 30 years, and Chairman from 1968 until his death in 1981.
Throughout his tenure, he was instrumental in making significant improvements to the course and to Haydock Park’s jumping programme – not to mention being the first person in the racing world with the foresight to stage non-racing events on racecourses.
Born in 1909 in Prestwich, Manchester, Tommy Whittle first became a director in 1951. Alongside this he continued to develop the family business, as well as working for MI6 and holding numerous other posts, including director of the Racecourse Association and Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester.
In his major contributions to Haydock Park, Tommy followed in the footsteps of his father, a keen sportsman and a director at Haydock Park for many years. Affectionately known as Big Tommy to differentiate him from ‘Little Tommy’, he was also an influential figurehead in the Lancashire Cricket League and Swinton Rugby League.
Following Tommy’s death, the Whittle name lived on with his son Bill taking over as Chairman for the next 32 years, retiring in 2013. Tommy’s grandson Nicholas was the fourth generation of this distinguished family to preside at Haydock Park, serving for eight years as a board member at Carlisle and Haydock Park until 2019

EAST STREET hasn’t looked back since the visor went on, winning twice over fences prior to completing the hat-trick over hurdles here 17 days ago He could well be up to going in again returned to larger obstacles with his rider able to take off his very handy 7lb claim. Last year’s winner Famous Bridge resumed with a good second behind a course specialist at Kelso and he’s feared. Credo and Regal Blue are others capable of playing their part.

SUPREMELY WEST was well clear with Gwennie May Boy (subsequently won big handicap at Aintree) on his final outing last season and shaped as if he’d returned in top form when third at Hexham 70 days ago, so he looks the one to beat for all that several others arrive in good order Half Track and Magical King are both obvious dangers.

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
