A very warm welcome to our first fixture of the year at Haydock Park, featuring the Sky Bet Peter Marsh Chase.

The race has a fantastic set of alumni, from Twin Oaks to Jodami, and is a fantastic centrepiece on a day where we see Cheltenham Festival and Grand National clues aplenty. The Rossington Main adds considerable interest to an informative day’s racing.

I am delighted that the 2025 tipping competition starts today. The winner will receive a complimentary 2026 Haydock Park annual badge Alan Whittle was victorious last year and I wish competitors luck this time around.

We also have private boxes, a designated members bar and seating area for your comfort and enjoyment today.

Haydock Park’s reciprocal fixtures list is jam-packed full of racing action for this coming year Next Saturday for example, badges will be traversing down the M5 aplenty to attend Festival Trials Day at Cheltenham From Goodwood to Ayr, Haydock members will be there!

I hope you have an enjoyable and successful days racing and thank you for your continued support of Haydock Park.

NO NO TANGO made light of a 13-month absence to justify strong support in good style starting out for this yard at Wincanton 6 weeks ago and shades the vote over Margaret’s Legacy, who also landed a gamble for a new stable when making a winning comeback at Southwell. Ned Tanner responded well to headgear/tongue strap when taking advantage of his reduced mark over C&D late last month and is best of the others.

OH MY JOHNNY had the race at his mercy when falling at Bangor on his penultimate run and the form has worked out very well. He quickly made amends at Uttoxeter and is fancied to follow up from what could be a generous opening mark. Lario is a threat and Spirits Bay needs considering having shaped better than the result in a competitive affair at Cheltenham last time.

DECLARED RUNNERS 7

Stewards Note:

FAMOUS LISS: Following its run on 2/1/2025 it was reported that the horse made a respiratory noise.

Probable S.P’s: 4-6 Royal Infantry (IRE), 11-2 Cloonainra (IRE), 7-1 Dedicated Hero (IRE), 12-1 Peacenik (IRE), 14-1 Walking On A Dream (IRE), 40-1 Famous Liss (IRE), 80-1 Got A Dream (IRE)

ROYAL INFANTRY soon settled things with an impressive burst early in the straight over C&D on his most recent outing and, with scope for plenty more improvement, he’ll surely take a fair bit of beating stepping up in grade. Dedicated Hero impressed at Kelso and is narrowly preferred to likeable mare Cloonainra for the forecast spot.

Cases can be made for any number of these, but the suggestion is GOOD LOOK CHARM, who enhanced her good record fresh when winning under this pilot at Sandown 6 weeks ago and Anthony Honeyball’s mare can take her tally to five wins from 12 starts in this sphere. Punta del Este has picked up from where he left off last season, so he can provide most resistance, with Kilbarry Hill and Uncle Bert another couple worth considering, too.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
