WELCOME E TO HEXHAM

THE RACECOURSE EXECUTIVE EXTEND A WARM WELCOME TO ALL OWNERS, TRAINERS, SPONSORS AND RACEGOERS TODAY.

It was most unfortunate to lose our previous meeting due to frost but are delighted to welcome everyone to our Christmas fixture. The Injured Jockeys Fund are with us today situated under the canopy outside of the Shire Bar selling all IJF merchandise. This is an ideal way to do your Christmas Shopping whilst enjoying a day at the races.

Thanks go to our sponsors, Ursa Major Racing responsible for the 2mile 4 furlong “Event of Sivola” Handicap Chase, Leadstar Media responsible for the 3 “mybettingsites.com” races and the Lords of the Ring, Hexham Oncourse Bookmakers who always manage to smile when paying out even when the weather is at its worst.

We have been successful in obtaining another fixture next year from the BHA making 15 in total. If you have purchased goods from the IJF stand and are still looking for something special to give as a gift why not purchase a membership of Hexham Racecourse available from the racecourse office situated next to the turnstiles

If you are a seasoned racegoer or first time at the course we appreciate your custom, hope you have an enjoyable day and look forward to welcoming you back next year

From all the staff at the racecourse, we wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Robert Whitelock Racecourse Manager.

BET TING WITH THE BOOKMAKERS

DIFFERENT WAYS TO BET - WIN OR EACH-WAY

The two main types of bet are win and each-way. For win bets, your horse needs to win the race outright An each-way bet is effectively two bets – one for your horse to win and one for it to be placed. So a £2 each-way bet will cost £4 A bookmaker taking each-way bets will display the terms on which they accept such bets on their board. In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

• Fewer than 3 runners - Win bets only, no places offered

• 3 or 4 runners – Win bets only Where a bookmaker wishes to depart from this default position they may offer place terms at 1/5 odds a place 1-2.

• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2

• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3

• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3-4

• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4

PLACING YOUR BET

Shop around for the best odds When you have decided where to place your bet, state the number of your horse and the stake, for example “Number 4, £2 win” Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to their clerk and hand them your money. You will then be given an itemised receipt detailing your bet and potential winnings. You should keep this safe until you have heard ‘Weighedin’ announced after the race If your bet is successful, hand your ticket to the bookmaker and they will give you your winnings
