BETTING EXPLAINED

Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number

Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

HALL LANE seemed suited by the more patient tactics when off the mark in this sphere at Market Rasen in July and he can defy a 2lb rise. Finn Lough was all the better for his chase debut when just collared at Warwick so is next best.

PLAY SMARTER

In memory of former jockey, Macer Gifford

Born and raised in Huntingdon, Gifford won many big races during the 60’s and 70’s before sadly succumbing to motor neurone disease in 1985, at only 40 years old. Sarah Gifford describes Macer as ‘A sociable man, who loved people. He was very kind and was a gentleman’. Macer rode 231 winners, the highlight being his victory on Larbawn in the 1968 Whitbread Gold Cup.

Huntingdon Racecourse are delighted to be welcoming Sarah Gifford (Macer’s wife), Lara Gifford and Hettie Gifford (Macer’s daughters), and Sue Pond (Macer’s sister) today to celebrate his life and his love for racing.

JUST CHASING MAY is on the up and bumped into one at Soutwell recently, so he’s fancied to get back to winning ways at the possible expense of Orchestra, who was in good order when last seen in this sphere. Gwennie May Jem is very much one to note making his handicap debut from a mark that looks appealing based on pedigree/connections.
