‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

LORD SPARKY

Was last week announced as the Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) ‘Horses For Courses’ equine ambassador for Huntingdon Racecourse.

Launched in 2023 and supported by Godolphin, ‘Horses For Courses’ is an exciting initiative to showcase the care given and opportunities available to racehorses once their racing days come to an end.

During his racing career Lord Sparky was trained firstly by Caroline Bailey and then Stuart Edmunds. After finishing fourth on his debut at Huntingdon in March 2019, the son of Sulamani went on to prove himself a real course specialist with no less than six victories at the Cambridgeshire venue between April 2019 and October 2022.

The now 10-year-old was retired in April of this year and is enjoying being back in the stables of his owner-breeders Neil and Amanda Jennings at Braybrooke in Northamptonshire. In time, Lord Sparky is expected to spend his time hacking and at leisure-level showjumping.

Daniel Craggs, General Manager at Huntingdon Racecourse, said: “We are both delighted and proud to become the latest racecourse to join the ‘Horses For Courses’ programme, which highlights the vital role of RoR in such an innovative way.

“There could be no more appropriate racehorse to be our equine ‘Horses For Courses’ ambassador than Lord Sparky, who had such a fantastic record here at Huntingdon and was a real favourite with racegoers.

“I would like to thank Neil and Amanda Jennings for all their help in making this come about and we look forward to welcoming Lord Sparky back to Huntingdon Racecourse in the New Year.”
