We hope you all had a brilliant Christmas and New Year. Today always appears to be the day we all get back on the straight and narrow after all the festivities and what better way than coming racing There have been some special races over the break, and for me no better than Constitution Hill showing his class at Kempton.
We may not have any Constitution Hills’ running today (who knows) but we have a full racecard to kick off 2025 and some competitive races. Thanks to the Watson Family, Simply Delicious, Plyvine Caterers and Vobe Electrics for their sponsorship.
I hope we can provide some enjoyable race days for 2025 and for any friends that wish to be more engaged at the racecourse do become a member and benefit from what that has to offer. I like to think we are a friendly, real value, all engaging racecourse that provides good prize money for competitive racing I can assure you we try our hardest!
Regards
Simon Sherwood (Managing Director/Clerk of the Course)

Race Summary:
Several to consider in what has the makings of an informative novice. DUNSKAY is just about the most interesting of the shortlisted candidates, with the form of his latest bumper success at Huntingdon working out well. Sole Solution stepped up on his hurdles debut when runner-up at Leicester last month and he is feared most ahead of Aviation and Malinificent. Jamie Snowden fields former point winners Dwight K Schrute and Roe And Co, both of whom need a close look in the betting.

Family and friends are gathering for a fifth and final time at Ludlow today to remember Luke and raise a glass in his memory
If you have attended this meeting over the last few years, you may recall reading that Luke started in racing in 2009 and that he worked initially in Epsom for Jim Boyle, the late John Akehurst and Simon Dow. He then moved to the Cotswolds where he worked for Paul Webber, Alex Hales and finally Richard Phillips. Luke left racing in the summer of 2018 and returned home to Yorkshire to pursue a career elsewhere. However, despite his outgoing and happy go lucky attitude, unbeknown to us he had been struggling with his mental health for a number years, and sadly in November that that year at the age of just 26, Luke took his own life.
Although suicide is no longer the taboo subject it has been in the past, the statistics are still frightening. Men account for 75 per cent of all suicides in the UK, where it is also the leading cause of death for men under the age of 50 During 2023 there were 5,656 suicides registered in England alone
There are a number of organisations who offer help and support to people struggling with their mental health, from helplines and online support to group and individual meetings. This is not an exhaustive list, but they include the Samaritans, Anxiety UK, CALM, MIND, Andy’s Man Club and James’ Place.
If you’re struggling, or you know someone who is, then these organisations can help and if as a result of someone contacting them it means one less family going through what we have, then that can only be a good thing.
We have received nothing but love and support from people in the racing community over the last 6 years or so. Many of these people knew Luke, but a number didn’t, and that speaks volumes for racing as a whole
We are very grateful to each and every one of them and there are far too many to name individually
However, we would particularly like to thank David Fitzgerald, Richard Phillips, Alex Hales, Luke’s former work mates, many of whom have kept in touch with us, and finally everyone at Ludlow who have looked after us and made us feel so welcome over the last few years, especially Diane Thomas and Simon Sherwood.
Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts, The Watson Family.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
