TODAY’S RACING

THE TRACK

A RIGHT-HANDED OVAL CIRCUIT ALMOST A MILE AND A QUARTER IN EXTENT, WHICH JOINS THE STRAIGHT FIVE FURLONGS COURSE HALF-A-MILE FROM HOME. THE BENDS ARE SHARP, PUTTING BIG, LONG-STRIDING TYPES AT A SLIGHT DISADVANTAGE.

T TODAY’S TURE RACE FEA

Our final fixture of the Flat season sees a 0-80 handicap for three-year-olds headline the seven race card The Richard-Fahey handicap headlin trained SILENT MOVE st to defy this weight but is no doubt has the best form in the race. He will have to be at his very best didn't look to handle the soft ground at Haydock last time out so could bounce back on a sounder surface. From one end of k b the handandicap to the other, ETRETAT e improver the field after scoring at Chelmsford last time out. However, looks to be the after sco the gelding is 0-11 on the turf but Joe Fanning back in the saddle is a positive Previously with Andrew Balding until October, he Pr stable. He needs to turn that form around but Jim Goldie is never one to SPUN TO GOLD mark continues to slide at his new tha discount here The field is concluded by OLVE QUIET RESO y who will appreciate Warren Fentiman's handy 7lb claim ppreciate W

JOCKEYS H TO WATCH

ckey Championship, leading the way with 14 winners. PAUL MULRENNAN has once again ran away with the Edinburgh Gin Jockey Ch he is impossible to dismiss here on the final day with 5 rides Although only riding 1 winner from 36 rides over the last 14 days, ve strong claims too. He rides the hat-trick seeking Profiteer (12.35) who throughout the afternoon. DAVID ALLAN looks to have th n again. He also teams up with usual suspect Tim Easterby to ride Amayretto (2.35) who could will have to defy top-weight to go in up Ea go well. OISIN ORR was no match to the winner in the standings but currently sits in second with six victories Oisin is another i with strong rides and both Silent Move (2.05) and John L Sullivan (2.35) could both prove too strong at the top of the weights. ) b

TRAINERS TO WATCH

JIM GOLDIE looks set to land the Edinburgh Gin Trainers Championship, already saddling 11 winners here this season Once again, he brings a strong hand here and has seven changes and at least one success looks likely. TIM EASTERBY found success at Newmarket on Saturday with a decent-priced winner and has saddles just three today Operating at a 13% strike rate over the last 14 days, he looks one to side with already bagging five winners. CHRISTOPHER KELLETT doesn't saddle many but he has been in red-hot form With 2 winners from his last 6 saddles, Darbucks (2.35) could prove one to follow

RACE DESCRIPTIONS

12:35 THE VISIT RACINGTV.COM HANDICAP STAKES

1:05 THE EBF RESTRICTED MAIDEN STAKES

1:35 THE 100% RACINGTV PROFITS BACK TO RACING HANDICAP STAKES

Today's opener is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 55 In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

This race is a seven furlongs maiden stakes for two-year-olds Maiden races provide a starting point for young horses that are yet to record a victory and most will be very lightly-raced or be making their racecourse debuts Previous experience can count for a lot when searching for the winner but well-bred or precocious juveniles are more than capable of landing the prize at the first time of asking

This is a one mile handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 56 to 75 To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 65 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 60.

2:05 THE CONGRATULATIONS RCA SHOWCASE 2024 FINALISTS HANDICAP STAKES

This is a one mile handicap race for three-year-olds which have been rated from 61 to 80 Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating, this is regularly reassessed A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb.

2:35 THE MUSSELBURGH ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP HANDICAP STAKES

This is a seven furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 65 Like most handicaps on the Flat, this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.

3:10

THE WATCH ON RACING TV HANDICAP STAKES

The penultimate race is a one mile, four and a half furlongs race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 51 to 70 Like all handicaps on today’s card this means that should a horse rated 65 take part they would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 60

3:42

THE JOIN RACING TV NOW HANDICAP STAKES

Our finale is a two miles handicap race has been designed for three-year-olds and upwards which are rated between 46 and 55 However, horses officially rated in excess of 55 are also eligible to take part The conditions of this race stipulate that the maximum weight to be carried by a horse rated 55 would be 10st 2lb, so should a horse rated 54 be entered to run, they would be asked to carry 2lb more than the top weight – 10st 4lb.

HOW TO READ THE RACECARD

1. PICK YOUR WINNER!

PLACING A BET

HAVING A FLUTTER IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE FUN OF COMING RACING.

2. WHERE TO PLACE A BET

Many people select a horse based on it’s name or jockey colours or go to the Parade Ring to view the horses Alternatively you may wish to follow a particular jockey or trainer, or a tipster in a newspaper Others like to look at the horse’s previous races or ‘form’.

1. In the Betting Ring, in front of the Grandstand, with a racecourse ‘bookie’. This is great fun as you can shop around for the bookmaker offering the biggest odds on your selection.

2. You can play with Tote at one of the many betting stations around the racecourse, Tote offers pool betting rather than ‘prices’ or ‘odds’ offered in the betting ring. The Tote Guarantee you can be safe in the knowledge that they’ll never pay less than the price the horse wins at, and if the pool payout is bigger, you’ll get that.

3. Place bets from the comfort of your seat by visiting Tote.co.uk, the Tote Guarantee still applies and all new customer receive a welcome offer

4. At the totesport club office, if you are a member of the totesport club.

3. PLACE YOUR BET.

Decide how much you want to stake, and what type of bet you would like to place Then Cheer your selection home! There are a few simple rules that you need to follow after placing your bet.

- Please check your receipt. Mistakes cannot be rectified after a race is off

- Keep your bet receipt safe You will need this to collect your winnings

- Don’t throw away your ticket until the racecourse announcer says ‘Weighed In’.

- Even if your horse has not won, the result may be changed if there is a ‘Stewards Enquiry’.

At every race meeting at Musselburgh there are three specially qualified equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Medical Teams responsible for the welfare of the Jockeys. The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground This does not reflect on the severity of an injury, but allows the vet so privacy and the horse the opportunity, in a calm environment, to ma a recovery Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erec around a fallen horse.
