DUBAI FUTURE CHAMPIONS FESTIVAL DAY ONE
FRIDAY 9 OCTOBER 2020 Official Racecard
THE JOCKEY CLUB WELCOMES YOU
Welcome to the opening day of the 2020 Dubai Future Champions Festival. It is a well-worn cliché in racing that exciting juvenile horses can ‘keep us warm’ during the winter months with the promise of what they could achieve in their Classic campaign but perhaps it carries extra weight this year. There can be no denying that 2020 has been testing and the challenges are far from being over. Therefore, it will surely be a benefit to all of us who love this sport to be reminded of why we are working so hard to keep the show on the road, and this is a meeting primed to do just that. Champions are forged here and endless clues are provided as to how the pecking order could like in the seasons to come. Impeccable pedigrees and world-class horsemanship is a potent mix and we have it in abundance this week. Today’s feature is the Group 1 bet365 Fillies’ Mile, a race with a roll of honour littered with greats. This century, the likes of Soviet Song, Minding and Laurens have taken this race en route to significant further Group 1 honours and a good performance here today will have connections dreaming of what could be when the QIPCO 1,000 Guineas of 2021 rolls around. Newmarket Racecourses is renowned also for its big handicaps and in the bet365 Old Rowley Cup we have another for punters to get stuck into and attempt to solve before tomorrow’s Together For Racing International Cesarewitch. My thanks go to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Godolphin for their continued support of this meeting. I am also grateful to bet365 for their generous support, to Al Basti Equiworld for their sponsorship of our Owners facilities, and to my colleagues here at the racecourse. They continue to go above and beyond to ensure we are able to continue to provide world-class entertainment and safe conditions for those participating. Remember that if you are watching from home, the Racing At Home Hub, which you can find on our website, has everything you need to recreate the raceday atmosphere, with race replays, food and drink inspiration and much more. I wish all horses and their connections competing today the very best of luck. I hope you all stay safe and well. Best wishes, SOPHIE ABLE General Manager

HAIJA shaped really well behind a promising stablemate on debut here 3 weeks ago, running to a useful level, and looks the one they all have to beat. There are a number of well-bred newcomers in opposition however, most notably Sir Michael Stoute’s Dubawi filly Bawaady and Kingman-filly Divine Light, a Godolphin prospect in the care of Charlie Appleby.

THE NEWMARKET GOLD SEASON
The penultimate fixture of the Newmarket Gold Season saw a competitive day of racing, featuring the Group 1 Kingdom Of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes. Godolphin's Mystical Dawn landed the opening race, shedding his maiden tag at the first time of asking over a mile. This was a performance full of promise, and the son of Sea The Stars is bred to be a top prospect. The first highlight of the day came with Just Frank's demolition win in the ÂŁ150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes. The Les Eyre-trained son of Epaulette made all the running in fine style to win the valuable contest by a margin of four and a half lengths. The 27-strong field was made up of classy two-year-olds, but it was Lewis Edmunds who stole the race with a fine ride aboard the bold front runner. Iconic Choice sprung a surprise in the British EBF Premier Fillies' Handicap, seeing off the talented Be More by half a length for the top team of Tom Dascombe and Martin Harley. The feature race of the day, the Kingdom Of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes saw a tremendous field assemble for the Group 1 highlight. Irish raider Champers Elysees faced a tough task in backing up her prior Group 1 win, with 2019 winner Billesdon Brook, multiple Group 1 winner Veracious, Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Peaceful and QIPCO 1,000 Guineas runner up Cloak Of Spirits all lining up in the race. The latter fared best of the mentioned group, but it was Falmouth winner Nazeef who came out on top under Jim Crowley, seeing off French raider Half Light by a length and a half back in second. Oisin Murphy and Hughie Morrision teamed up to win the next race with Urban Artist, with the promising Existent getting his first win by a widening margin of six lengths in the next race. Georgia Dobie and Tom Clover got their names on the scoresheet in the final race, winning with Hunni.

Several of the newcomers are pretty appealing on paper but NEBULOSA and Brunnera may be able to put their experience to good use. The former finished well when third over C&D and the forecast slower ground could help given that she already looks in need of a stiffer test. Romantic Song could be the pick of the debutantes but the Gosden fillies Coloratura Soprano and Hamhama also command respect.

It was a shame that METHOD didn’t have the opportunity to show what he’s capable of in the Middle Park, but he remains a colt of considerable potential and will prove hard to beat if coping with this drop to 5f and the forecast soft ground. Acklam Express performed admirably against his elders last time and merits respect, but progressive duo Royal Address and Atalis Bay rate the main dangers.
Our horses receive the highest standard of care throughout every stage of their lives. Whether they are the top-performing, best-bred horses – parenting the next generation at stud after their racing days are over – or retirees pursuing second careers through the Godolphin Rehoming initiative, throughout their lives they are all assured of quality care and attention from our global network of employees.

THINKING OF YOU was denied a clear run at a crucial stage when third in a Group 3 at the Curragh and, with further improvement on the cards and conditions no problem, she looks the one to be on. Saffron Beach created a very good impression when winning a C&D maiden on debut and she is feared, along with Nazuna, who brings the strongest form to the table courtesy of her effort in the Rockfel.

A wide margin win at Newbury was the perfect prep for a tilt at this Group 1 prize, and the daughter of Frankel relished conditions when beating the classy Powerful Breeze by a head. Never far off the pace, Jason Watson used his mount’s proven stamina to get on top at the end of the race, which saw subsequent 1,000 Guineas and Oaks winner Love finsh back in third. Still with potential, we hope to see Quadrilateral back on the track soon. The all conquering Ballydoyle team have a great record in this race. They are represented by Mother Earth and Snowfall this year.

PLAY SMARTER
The sky could be the limit for INDIGO GIRL, who had more in hand than the margin of victory would suggest in the May Hill and she is taken to maintain her unbeaten status. There’s not much to choose between Shale and Pretty Gorgeous, who were meeting for the third occasion when first and second respectively in the Moyglare. They are both feared greatly, along with the progressive Isabella Giles.

This is fiercely competitive and cases can be made for the majority of the field.
