TUESDAY 14TH JANUARY 2025
WELCOME
Welcome to the Southern Cranes & Access Raceday
Sadly, we lost our last raceday, the BetGoodwin Sussex National Raceday, to waterlogging, which was frustrating for everyone, but I am pleased to welcome you to The Southern Cranes & Access Raceday. A belated Happy New Year and we wish you all an enjoyable day.
I would like to thank our Partners; BetGoodwin and Southern Cranes and Access Ltd for their tremendous support throughout the 2024/25 Season, along with today’s sponsors, Southern Cranes & Access, Mayo Wynne Baxter, BetGoodwin and Weatherbys. We hope you all have a tremendous day.
We have a cracking 6 race card today, with 56 runners declared and over £58k of prize money.
Our main race today is the 5th race, The Southern Contract Ltd Veteran’s Handicap Steeple Chase which is worth £17,500 with 7 going to post. This race looks very competitive.
Our next two fixtures will be Monday 27th January and 10th February so if you are thinking of booking tickets or hospitality for either day make sure you visit our website or contact one of our team now.
Make sure you plan for our Easter Festival (Premier raceday) which will be held on Sunday 20th and Monday 21st April, by booking now you will secure our best ticket prices as this is a popular racing weekend with both tickets and hospitality always in high demand.
Have a great day at Plumpton, Heart Of The Community.
Once again Happy New Year.
Best wishes

JURANCON failed to justify short odds when filling the runner-up spot at Exeter last month, but that was still a fair effort and he sets the standard with a rating of 127. David Pipe’s six-year-old can make it two wins from his last three starts, with his main threat possibly being Sole Solution after his second at Leicester last time. Illegal D’ainay has plenty of experience under his belt and completes the shortlist.
SELECTION - Jurancon
Danger - Sole Solution
BOBBI’S BEAUTY powered clear to score by six lengths in this grade at Lingfield last month and has an 8lb higher mark to contend with. Martin Keighley’s seven-year-old could have more to offer on only her fifth chase start and can complete a double. Ideallko is a previous course winner who was a three-length victor at Warwick on his latest outing. He should be thereabouts, along with My Mate Polly.
SELECTION - Bobbi’s Beauty
Danger - Ideallko

Blue Las is a dual bumper winner who took a step forward from her first start over hurdles to romp home at Ffos Las last month, and she’s likely to mount a bold bid. However, she might be up against it with RULA BULA, who occupied the runner-up berth in Listed company at Newbury in November. That looks the best piece of form on offer, while Barrabool is another to note.
SELECTION - Rula Bula Danger - Blue Las
6
CHANCELLORSTOWN wasn’t suited to dropping back in trip at Fontwell last time out, and he is much better judged on his narrow defeat over C&D in November. The son of Cloudings looks the one to beat on that form, and it may be Glengolly who follows him home after unseating his rider four out when still going well enough at Wetherby last month. Confidential Gosip and San Pedro cannot be ruled out either.
SELECTION - Chancellorstown
Danger - Glengolly
CREDO has dropped back to her last winning mark and Anthony Honeyball’s mare can score now dropped in grade with Chad Bament taking off a valuable 10lb. That may be at the main expense of Supervisor, who should enjoy these conditions and returned from a 253-day break with a highly creditable runner-up effort at Warwick recently. Northern Poet has an excellent record here and must also enter calculations.
SELECTION - Credo
Danger - Supervisor
A promising second last time out over 2m at Southwell, SEEK HIM THERE looks just the type to improve for going up in trip and can strike on handicap debut off a mark of 103. Not beaten far over slightly further at Ludlow last month, Kazontherazz is a key player, along with Officer Of State, who has strong claims on his penultimate second at Southwell.
SELECTION - Seek Him There
Danger - Kazontherazz Doubles and

HORSE CARE AT PLUMPTON
At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.
During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Paramedic team responsible for human casualties.
The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race.

RULA BULA went down fighting when second in a 9-runner Listed contest at Newbury at the end of November and she is difficult to oppose now back in calmer waters. It’s likely that Blue Las and Game Colours will do battle for minor honours, with the former taken to emerge as second best given her scope for improvement. Barrabool also has potential but she’s probably biting off more than she can chew on this occasion.

Race preview from Weatherbys
Itisanabsolutepleasuretobesponsoring the Weatherbys Cheltenham Festival GuideHandicapHurdleat Plumpton this afternoon, in which a competitive field of ninearesettoheadtopost.
Chris Gordon enjoys a fine record here at the track, scoring 53 winners at a 23% strike rate across the past five seasons, and his San Pedro (pictured) is the sole course and distance winner amongst the field. The eight-year-old in fact won twicearoundherelastterm, canteringto comfortable 12 and 10 length victories in February and March respectively, and he isabigplayerfromaslidingmark.Hehas shown very little this term but as a result is now 3lbs lower than his last winning mark and a return to Plumpton may see abouncebacktoform.
Seven-race maiden Chancellorstown was agonisingly denied by just a head over course and distance in November, only headed in the final strides, and he arrives here from just a 1lb higher mark.
Toby Lawes’ seven-year-old looked a littleoutpacedoverashorterdistanceat Fontwell last time and should appreciate thisstepbackupintripwithKevinBrogan gettingbackintothesaddle.DavidPipe’s Ben Lilly was third here in January but mustimproveon three below-parefforts over hurdles this term from a muchreducedmark,now8lbslowerthanwhen winningatWincantonlastOctober.
Glengolly has yet to shed his maiden tag over hurdles and joined the Billy Aprahamian yard for this season. The six-year-old was stepped up in trip for thefirsttimeatWetherbywhenlastseen and looked to be travelling well when unseating his rider four from home. He is well worth another go at this sort of trip and is amongst the least exposed in the lineupfromamarkof86.
San Pedro is 3lbs lower than his last winning mark and a return to Plumpton may see a bounce back to form.
Also unexposed is KickForTouchfor the in-form Hobbs and Johnson White team. The five-year-old makes his handicap debut here in first-time blinkers from an opening mark of 82, hiked dramatically upintrip.
Alex Hales reaches for first-time blinkers on Nothinelsematters but he must race from 2lbs out of the handicap, whilst Laura Horsfall opts for cheekpieces on Confidential Gosip who bids to bounce back from a final flight fall at Fakenham last time. Cheekpieces are swapped for blinkers for Neil Mulholland’s Scorsese and top-weight Pure Theatre has the benefit of Chad Bament’s 10lb claim to easetheburden.

The standards demanded by the BHA far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The BHA similarly licenses racecourses setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course.
At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine Vets appointed to look after the welfare of all the horses with two vets following the horses as they race and the third being based in the stable yard.
Parade Ring Access
In the interests of safety, access to the parade ring is strictly limited to Owners and Trainers with runners in the race, BHA and Racecourse Officials who are on duty at the meeting and Emergency Service Personnel. Those people holding badges or accreditation that allow access to the parade ring are asked to refrain from entering the parade ring unless absolutely necessary.
